GROUP ACTIVITY

1 Title Duration Objectives Balancing 12 nails on a nail 30 minutes to 1 hour a) Build up LEADERSHIP SKILLS and INNOVATIVE IDEAS b) It also measures the TEAMWORK capability Per group - 13 big nails (12 loose nails and one hammered nail), small wooden block, stopwatch. 10 A nail will be hammered onto the small wooden block before the game starts. All groups will be given 12 nails loosely. Their motive is to balance all the 12 nails on that one hammered nail. The fastest group to balance all the 12 nails wins 1

2 Title Duration Objectives Birthday line 30 minutes a) Build up LEADERSHIP SKILLS and COMMUNICATING SKILLS. b) It also measures the TEAMWORK CAPABILITY 10 All participants will have to communicate with each other without any lip movement. Their objective is to get a proper birthday line starting from January to December regardless of the year in ascending order. Date and month must be in ascending order. 3

string and double sided tape, opaque scarf, stopwatch 10 One member from the group will be blindfolded. That particular member will be spinned for 3 rounds by the facilitators. The other members of the group will have to guide the blindfolded member to place the tail on the right spot. The fastest time to place the tail on the right spot wins 3

4 Title Duration Objectives Picture Pieces Game 30 minutes To demonstrates TEAMWORK of all the members in a group, which is the understanding that each person working on their own part contributes to an overall group result pencils, markers, A3 paper, erasers and rulers 4-5 This problem solving exercise requires that the facilitator choose a well known picture or cartoon that is full of detail. The picture needs to be cut into as many equal squares as there are participants in the exercise. Each participant should be given a piece of the puzzle and instructed to create an exact copy of their piece of the puzzle five times bigger than its original size. They are posed with the problem of not knowing why or how their own work affects the larger picture. When all the participants have completed their enlargements, ask them to assemble their pieces into a giant copy of the original picture on a table. This problem solving exercise 2

5 Provide each team with the same quantity of straw and sticking tape. The teams are to build the tallest tower using straw and tape to win the game. The rule to be remembered is that, no objects are to be used to support the straw tower. The tower strictly has to be in vertical position to qualify. No horizontal towers allowed. The towers must stand and if it falls, it gets disqualified. 2

6 Title Duration Objectives Materials No. of Participants (per groups) Procedure Fill the Bottle 10 minutes To develop TEAM WORK AND COORDINATION water, bottle, pail 5 Every team gets a bucket full of water, placed in front of the first person in the line. There is an empty bottle at the end of the line, behind the last member. When the whistle blows, the first person takes handful of water and passes it to the next person and refills again. The second person passes the water to the third person and so on, without spilling too much water. The last person fills the bottle with whatever little water he receives. The game continues until the whistle blows again. The water collected by each team is measured and the team that collects maximum water wins the game 1

To develop devotion on the participants tendency to hold onto things and the costs & difficulties involved with that. bowls, dried peas, straws 5 Place empty bowls on one side of the room, and bowls full of dried peas on the other side. Make sure there are an equal number of peas in each bowl. Give each team member a straw. The aim of the game is for each team to transport a small pile of dried peas from a bowl on one side of the room to another bowl on the other side, using only their straw. They do this by sucking through the straw so the pea stays fixed to the end of the straw. If they drop the pea they must pick it up again using the straw. The winning team is the one that transports all the peas first. 1

8 Title Duration Objectives Materials No. of Participants (per groups) Procedure Newspaper Bridges 30 minutes To develop STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT and optimum utilization of resources Newspapers (lots), easy tear tape, one jug. 5 To each team, provide equal amounts of newspaper and sticking tape. Give them 30 minutes to build a bridge, which can withstand the weight of a water jug. The rule to be remembered is that the bridge should have only two pillars to support itself. At the end of the building time, the team which builds the strongest bridge, sustaining the weight of the water jug is the winner. 2

They have to stand horizontally and each of them holds the four sticks together horizontally. Then a ball will be put on the stick, the ball will be rolling and the participants must move faster and give the direction to the ball using the stick so that the ball wont fall down. If the ball fall down the team is disqualified from the game. Finally the ball must be fall into the pail that have been set at the corner of the game location 2

10 Title Duration Objectives Materials No. of Participants (per groups) Procedure Blind leading 30-45 minutes To develop proper COMMUNICATION SKILL Ball, chairs, tables, basket, tasks All the team members is divided into 4 groups Instruct the members of your team to separate into 4 groups. Provide a blindfold for one of the people in the group. Set up a simple obstacle course using random objects, such as stairs, chairs and trashcans. The other members of the group will receive a card with a task. The person with sight leads her blindfolded partner using only words to complete the task given. The person with sight is not permitted to touch the other person to guide him. This game helps build trust, listening skills and verbal communication. 4

Save The Egg 20 minutes To design a vehicle that can protect an egg from high fall(CRITICAL THINKING) An egg, two balloons, a roll of selotape, some elastic bands,two straws and 4 pieces of paper 10 The group has 20 mins to make a vehicle to carry the egg. The vehicle should be strong enough to withstand a fifteen foot drop onto concrete. 2

Each member in the group must hold the mat up in the air. The group must roll the ball by moving the mat so the ball crosses the finishing line at the other end of the mat. They must avoid the ball from falling down through the holes. This can be repeated to allow the group to better their previous time. 1

Procedure

Begin by asking all participants to empty their pockets, purses, and wallets of any coins they may have and place them on the table in front of them. If someone doesnt have any coins or only has very few, others in the room can share their coins with them. Instruct each person to create their own personal logo using the coins in front of them in just one minute. Other materials they may have on them, such as pens, notebooks, wallets, etc. can also be used in creation of the logo. If there is a particularly large group, people can be broken up into teams of 3-6 people and instructed to create a logo that represents them as a team or the whole room can gather to use the coins to create a logo for the organization/group/department/etc. Each solitary participant can explain their logo to the group or if the room was split into groups, the leader can have each group discuss what led to the team logo and what it says about them. Not only does this exercise promote self and mutual awareness, but it also enables participants to get to know each other on a more personal level. 3
