CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM Introduction Time is gold, as the famous line goes.

Time is a very precious thing in todays fast changing world that we lived today. Everything happens so fast sometimes we dont even notice it. Everyday time is always observed, we should always be more aware of the time to know what we should be doing and where we should be going at that certain point of time. Time is a special resource that you cannot store or save for later use. Most of us feel that we have many things to do but we dont have enough time and we blame time for our unachieved goals and stress. Wise time management can help you save time for what you need to do. Through time management, you can use your time wisely. You will become more productive, creative and can accomplish more things with less effort and time. Time Management can help you reduce wasted time that will lead to balance and fulfillment in life. As students, we should be masters of our own time. We should already know how to properly manage it. We should be able to allot time for our friends, for our family and especially for our studies. Most of the time, we lose track of our time and this becomes the main reason for being late in class. Punctuality is also a very essential factor for a student. It is vital that it can affect our learning. Missing a few minutes in class or in work for a day can be crucial.

In many institutions, and academic organizations, attendance is a very important criteria which is used for various purposes. These purposes include record keeping, monitoring, and promotion of optimal and consistent attendance. In some institutions, a minimum percentage of employees attendance is required and this policy has not been adhered because of the various challenges of the present method of taking attendance. The usual method involves the use of sheets of paper or log books in taking employees attendance. This method could easily be impersonated and the attendance sheet could be stolen or lost. Taking of attendance is time consuming. Thus, there is a need for a system that would eliminate the problem. An Attendance Monitoring System using biometrics will provide the needed solution. An Attendance Monitoring System is a system that is use for employees daily time record in schools or institutions. Rather than signing into a log book, every employee will scan their fingers over the fingerprint scanner, the fingerprint is compared against a list of pre-registered users, and once a match is made, the employee will be registered as having attended the work. The system will serve as a log book that is set up as a computerized database. It will monitor the employees time in and time out, facilitates access to the attendance of a particular employee and maintain the employees daily time record that will help in generating reports and evaluation of their attendance.

Statement of the Problem The purpose of this study is to identify the condition of Marian Learning Center and Science High School Attendance Monitoring System in accordance to the following questions: 1. What is the status of Marian Learning Center and Science High School Attendance Monitoring System criteria: 1.1 Accuracy and Reliability 1.2 Functionality 1.3 Security 1.4 User Friendly 2. What are the problems encountered? We studied the existing system and tend to extract general and specific problems being encountered by Marian Learning Center and Science Highschool with their current manual system of monitoring the attendance of their employees. There problem This manual system involves the use of a log books in taking employees attendance. This method could easily allow impersonation and the log book could be stolen, tampered or lost. in terms of the following

Significance of the Study The system is deemed significant in monitoring the attendance of the Faculty of Marian learning Center and Science Highschool and contributive to the following:

For Marian Learning Center and Science Highschool, they would have an attendance monitoring system that will be used to monitor the daily time record of their teachers in an easy way.

Scope, Delimitation and Limitation of the Study The study is centered on IT based system of Marian Learning Center and Science Highschool. The system will work as a log book, rather than signing into the log book, every employee will scan their fingers over a fingerprint scanner that is compared to a list of pre-registered employee .each employee has a system account were they can access and monitor their attendance. But only the administrator can facilitate access to every employee. Were the admin can evaluate and generate a report on an employee.
