Meeting Minutes

May 15th, 2006

Board members present: Jeff Eckley, Myrna Coleman, Rose Klein and Kris Meek. HNA
members and visitors: Jim Klein, Bruce Wertz, Sergeant Dennis W. Miller, Officer S. Berry,
Officer B. Pachunka and Officer Todd Hruza.

Sergeant Dennis W. Miller of the Lincoln Police Dept. brought Northwest Squad A to meet
with members of the Highlands Neighborhood. He said that there is lots of larceny from
vehicles and vandalism. When the police find open garage doors at night they will ring
doorbells and wake the homeowners so they aren’t robbed.

Members of the board reported motorcycle racing late at night on NW 12th or Fletcher to
Kawasaki. Sgt. Miller asked members of the neighborhood to call them if anything seems
unusual so that they can check it out. The general police phone number is 441-7204. The
police website is www.ci.lincoln.ne.us/city/police. To contact Sgt. D.W. Miller you can send
email to #395. The police supervisors during the day are Sgt. Kubichek and Sgt. Zeamer.

Brian Wertz, Facilities Engineer for the Kawasaki plant, said that they will be excavating by
the truck gate south of the plant to build a test track for railroad car testing. The railroad car
testing will not occur until sometime in the future. Mr. Wertz also anticipates planting a row of
trees near NW 12th/13th to block any noise from the railroad car testing. He said that any
planting will have to be coordinated with the city to make allowances for the future road
overpass north of NW 12th/13th across Hwy 34 to the Fallbrook area. He believes that the
overpass is planned for 2025. He said that there are meetings this week on the total master
plan for the city of Lincoln.

Rose Klein brought an Omaha World Herald article dated 4/25/06 about board member Nicole
McCoy and her husband Eric who volunteered to deploy to the Middle East. Nicole has been
battling thyroid cancer. After treatment in Houston for her cancer she was declared free of the
cancer but must still get annual scans. Nicole is with the Nebraska Air National Guard and will
spend five months as the protocol officer at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Her husband Eric,
who is also with the National Guard, will help run convoys from a base north of Baghdad for
the next 16 months.

Pine Tip Blight has killed several Scotch pine trees in the neighborhood. If these trees are not
removed the insects that cause the blight will hatch out and kill more trees. Should we send
out letters to homeowners with dead trees?

The Neighborhood Block Parties and Pool Party are scheduled for July 29th. We need to get
organized. If we are going to ask Wal-Mart or Sam’s Club for donations we need to do it soon.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, June 19th at 7:30 at the golf course clubhouse.
