As well as records and record totals across a wide-range of categories 2012 has been an exceptional year for Sothebys with record prices achieved in its New York, London, Hong Kong and Paris sale rooms in all the major collecting categories:
Other strong prices achieved for: Canaletto - View of the Churches of the Redentore and San Giacomo from the Estate of Lady Forte sold for $5.7m in New York, January 2012 Jan Havicksz. Steen - The Prayer Before the Meal, from the collection at Sudeley Castle, achieved 5.6m in London, December 2012. Willem van de Velde the Younger - The Surrender of the Royal Prince during the Four Days Battle sold for 5.3m ($8.3m) (6.6m) in London, July 2012. Lucas Cranach the Elder- Lucretia brought $5.1m in January in New York. Canaletto a world record of 1.9m ($3.1m) (2.4) was established for a Canaletto work on paper, when a view of the Campo di San Giacomo di Rialto sold for more than 4 times the previous record in London in July 2012.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2012 The Gunter Sachs Collection - Sothebys two day auction of the private collection of the late Gunter Sachs in London exceeded all pre-sale expectations to achieve 41,445,313 ($65,521,476) (51,289,705), over double the pre-sale low estimate. The Mis Collection Sothebys Paris auction of the private collection of Zaira and Marsel Mis realised 19 million ($24.6 million) the highest total for a single-owner collection offered at auction in France this year. The Highest price for Fine Art at auction in Paris this year - Pablo Picassos, Tte de Femme (Dora Maar), 1939-1940 sold in Paris for 6,33M ($7,89M). Sothebys worldwide African and Oceanic sales for 2012 brought 30.2m ($39.5m). Highlights include a Biwat Ancestor Figure from a Sacred Flute an Oceanic Masterpiece from the Lemaire Collection which sold for 1.4m ($1.8m) in December 2012.
Old Masters In January, Sothebys will hold its major sales of Old Masters in New York. This year they will include a designated sale of property from the estate of Giancarlo Baroni on 29 & 30 January 2013, as well as the sale of Important Old Master Paintings and Sculpture on 31 January 2013. This latter auction will be led by Francisco Jos de Goya y Lucientess Portrait of Mariano Goya (est. $6/8 million) from the estate of Greek shipping magnate George Embiricos, and Susanna and the Elders (est. $6/9 million), a major work by Pompeo Girolamo Batoni from 1751. Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary Art In February, Sothebys will stage major sales of Impressionist, Modern & Contemporary Art in London. Highlights include one of the most important groups of works on paper by Egon Schiele ever to come to the market offered as part of Sothebys Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale on 5th February. The drawings come to auction from the Leopold Museum in Vienna and carry a combined estimate of 9-12 million. The Barbier-Mueller Collection On March 22 and 23, Sothebys Paris will offer for sale the most exceptional collection of PreColumbian Art in private hands, the Barbier-Mueller Collection. Comprising around 300 works from Mexico, Central & South America, this extraordinary ensemble of pre-Hispanic art combines prestigious provenance with stylistic coherence. Among its many highlights are a Chupicuaro Statue, a Mayan Cephalomorphic Vase, Tarascan Duck-shaped Vase from the former Guy Joussemet Collection, a Mayan Ceramic Head from the former John Huston Collection, an Aztec Water Goddess Figure acquired by Josef Mueller in 1920, and an Anthropomorphic Urn from the Island of Marajo (Brazil).
