In math, we are now studying number sense and place value. Practice
identifying 2-digit numbers at home, especially those tricky teens! Also, practice
skip-counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. This skill will be essential to future study,
especially when we get to the money unit. The next chapter will review addition
and subtraction concepts we have learned so far and extending them to larger
numbers.
We will be packing a lot of important activities into this short month. We will
be discussing Groundhog Day and other early American superstitions. We will
be celebrating the 100th day of school on February 12. On the following day, we
will have our Valentine’s Day party. After we return from Winter Recess, we will
devote the final week of the month to studying two of our most famous
Presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Kudos to Madison Cowles! She was named student of the month for
January because she was a great model of self-discipline in the classroom. For
the month of February, I will be looking for the student who is a great example
of honor and patriotism, especially when we discuss the actions of our two most
famous presidents.
Have a great month and keep reading!
Mrs. Snyder…
We cruised right through January. February will fly right by, and before we
know it, spring will be knocking at our door. With all the cold weather, we have
spring fever and need some warm & sunny days to make us feel better.
February is here so that means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.
We will have a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 13th. Have your child
bring in valentines to share with the class. Homemade valentines are just as
special to share with friends and will give your family a nice memory to share.
We are learning about “Our Changing World” in our reading unit. We will read Presidents’ Day
