This document provides you with the information you need to see whether or not you qualify for

either a Faculty Entrance Scholarship, or a Vice-Chancellors Scholarship, if admitted to UCT in 2013.

AbOUt SCHOLARSHIPS AwARdEd At UCt:


We make scholarship awards using information provided in your application for admission and academic results, as appropriate. Faculty (Open) Entrance Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the school leaving examination and/or NBT results. Faculty (Equity) Entrance Scholarships made for equity purposes take into account previous academic achievement, NBT tests and the Universitys commitment to redress the consequences of discrimination. Each faculty decides the target group (s) for its equity awards.

FACULtY ENtRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS:


unless stated otherwise, are valued at R20 000, and you need not apply for one are awarded for one year only, and only if you are entering university for the first time except for BAS and Performing & Creative Arts students, are guaranteed to applicants, who register, and attain the published thresholds are restricted to South African citizens and permanent residents will be withdrawn entirely if, as a recipient, you cancel your registration before writing mid-year examinations (should you cancel registration after writing the mid-year exams you will receive half the scholarship value) are valid only for the year for which the offer was made; offers of faculty entrance scholarships are not deferred

ExtENdEd PROgRAmmES IN bACHELOR OF ARtS ANd bACHELOR OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

Ten Faculty Entrance Scholarships will be allocated competitively and on academic merit to applicants placed in one of the Facultys extended programmes. This will be done on the recommendation of the programme convenor and the Faculty scholarship sub-committee, and will be decided by the Dean.

PERFORmINg & CREAtIVE ARtS

Awards in the Performing and Creative Arts programmes are divided among the four areas (Drama, Fine Art, Music and Dance) on a pro rata basis, and in the award of Faculty Entrance Scholarships at least 50% of the awards must be to applicants from the redress category (Black, Coloured, Chinese and Indian). The award for performing and creative programmes will be based on academic record, NBT Academic Literacy (AL) Test score and performing and creative excellence (as advised by the Selection Panel and the Head/Director of the Department/School). A scholarship offer will fall away if the student subsequently registers for a qualification outside of one of the PCA programmes. VICE CHANCELLORS SCHOLARSHIPS:


are valued at R40 000 per annum are valid for three years, subject to being named on the Deans Merit List in your faculty, at the levels specified by your faculty are not awarded in addition to faculty scholarships after the first year of study you were among the top ten Mathematics, English and Computer Science Olympiad winners in 2012 you attended a WCED school in 2012, finished among the top 10 in the final NSC examinations, and applied for admission to UCT in 2013 you were among the top 15 achievers nationally, but not from the Western Cape, in the 2012 NSC examinations, administered by the Department of Basic Education, who applied for admission to UCT in 2013 you were among the top 5 achievers of Independent Examination Board (IEB) NSC writers in 2012, and applied for admission to UCT in 2013.
