Parent Comments Reports 2012 Following a Parent Voice Meeting in Spring 2012 we changed our approach to seeking parents

s comments at the end of their childs annual report. A separate sheet, in a different colour with rewording, meant that we had over three times the number of comments compared to the number we normally receive. The majority of comments were positive with parents taking time to thank teachers and staff for their hard work and support for their child. A few comments which were personal to a specific child were followed up with the parent by the class teacher or Headteacher. The following general comments were also included. More meetings with teacher if child not making progress or behaviour is not acceptable What level is my child working at in Maths and Literacy More regular homework required More advice in areas my child need to improve How can we help our child during the summer?

A few comments showed that parents consider C grade to be poor when it is in fact working at national expectation. Responses to Comments: At the end of the spring term teachers will invite some parents, whose children are not making expected progress in their work or behaviour, to meet with them to discuss: strategies, support, next steps. This is in addition to the February parent Consultation day. We are considering the request to include national curriculum levels for English and Maths each year. Our Homework Policy has been reviewed and your child should be receiving homework in accordance with this. Please contact Mrs Anthony (Infants), Mrs Holden (Juniors) if this is not the case. We send detailed information regarding the curriculum to be covered at the beginning of every term. We plan to send home an updated calculation booklet to help parents to support their children in Mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. A meeting for parents is also planned. Undoubtedly, one of the best way parents can help children with their Numeracy is to help them learn their multiplication tables fluently so that if they are asked 9 x 7 they can immediately tell you that it is 63. You will receive information from you childs new teacher at the end of each academic year about forthcoming topics you can research with your child over the summer, as well as being encouraged to take part in the Library reading challenge, read with your child every day and help them to learn their multiplication tables. We will continue to remind parents that a C grade means your child is making average progress in comparison to national progress.
