Share Our Story!

How do we keep our school vibrant and growing? Invite families to join us! How do we invite families? By sharing our story! We, the parents of STV, are the best ambassadors for our school. By talking about the activities and opportunities our children are involved in at school, we spread the word about the uniqueness of STV. You never know when a parent you are speaking with a park district class, in the library, or around your neighborhood may be looking for a school for their children. Catholic Schools Week is coming and is an excellent opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to learn more about our school at one of our Open House events: Sunday January 27 11:00 am 1:30 pm Thursday January 31 6:00 pm 7:30pm

To encourage you to Share Our Story. Any family referring a new family that enrolls in STV school grades K-8 this year or registers to join next year (grades K-8) will receive $500 (to be paid after the new family completes the school year). The new family joining will also receive $500 after completing the new school year. Thank you for helping share the good news of STV!

Chess is incorporated into the scholastic curriculums of approximately 30 nations across the globe. Educators around the world acknowledge that chess is a powerful tool for developing higher order thinking skills, creativity, numerical and verbal aptitudes, and memory. Brooklyns Intermediate School 318, a Title I school, has successfully used weekly lessons in chess as a means of boosting the students cognitive flexibility (the ability to see alternative solutions to problems, to think outside the box, to negotiate unfamiliar situations) and cognitive selfcontrol (the ability to inhibit an instinctive or habitual response and substitute a more effective one) with remarkable results. (How Children Succeed by Paul Tough) Did you know that St. Thomas of Villanova also offers this opportunity to its students? Look in your family envelope this month for Chess Wizards information and sign-up sheets. What are you waiting for? Not since the 19th century has anyone who started playing after the age of 14 become a chess grand master. Join Chess Wizards today!
