THE INTERNA TIONAL SERIES HAS COME AND GONE SO WHERE TO NOW FOR THE 2013 SEASON...?
From the 26th of December until the 5th of January Western Springs Speedway was the host of the POWRI International Midget Series. An event bringing the worlds best midget racers head to head!!
After having an eventful Christmas day, indulging in plenty of good food and drink, I had a feeling it was the calm before the storm. The POWRI International Midget Series was kicking off the following day at Springs Speedway. After my rookie season last year I knew I had a better understanding for what I was going to be up against. The opening night of the international series proved to be a battle as we mysteriously developed a misre with the motor. After qualifying in 16th place for the feature we were unable to re up the motor. This was a real shame for the team and I after qualifying on pole position for the feature only two weeks prior. It felt like we were on an uphill battle from the get go. A couple of nights later on the 29th, we headed back down to the Springs hopeful that we had sorted our problems. After leading our rst heat until the last lap we were certain we were on top of things. Coming home behind Brad Mosen and Nathan Smee (#1AUS) was nothing to be ashamed of! We qualied for the feature and nished a strong 10th. A great result, particularly given the calibre of international competitors! After having the car back on song it gave the team and I some condence that we were on top of things and ready to make up some ground. On New Years Day, a couple of tough heat races meant we were in for a treat having to complete in Semi Main. This is the last chance to qualify for a feature starting grid! Thankfully, my crew gave me a car that was a weapon. We set the fastest lap and won the Semi Main by a long shot. This was our second race win of the year!
Its a hard old game! As a racer, you go to the track to race. Sitting on the infield spectating is not a place you want to be. It was a rough ride. The track over the Summer threw us all kinds of curved balls. From fast and rough to flat and slick, it tested all the drivers and teams constantly over the series.

The crew had a short turnaround to get the car ready for the feature but did a great job. Unfortunately though the motor which wouldnt re, again! How can this happen?! Talk about character building After night three of the international series you can imagine how we were all feeling in the #17 HLR Racing camp. After another busy couple of days prepping and going over the car we nally found it.An electrical fault with the ECU (computer) wiring loom. What a relief!

Finally, thanks as always for the support. I look forward to seeing you a racetrack sometime soon and dont forget to check out:

Coming home a solid 4th and 9th in the heats set us up to qualify a strong 15th place for the feature. After charging from 15th to 5th we were over the moon to be back on form. With a small knock back at the end of the feature, Speedway NZ relegated us back to P10, something that can only be described as an interesting call. From the 26th of December until the 5th of January Western Springs Speedway was the host of the POWRI Regardless, we came away with washead to head!! racers a fast car, an excited team and a driver with renewed condence.
