Butterfly Park Benalmadena (Mariposario de Benalmadena)


Just on the edge of the pretty village of Benalmadena Pueblo you will f ind the colourf ul world of the Mariposario de Benalmadena butterf ly Park. It is open every day of the week f rom 10am 6pm (not closed f or siesta) and houses more than 1,500 butterf lies. T hroughout the whole year more than 150 dif f erent species f rom tropical areas all over the world are exhibited here. With each new visit you will f ind new species to see as their lif e span is only 2-3 weeks. T he environmental conditions of the park match that of the butterf lies natural habitats with the temperature being between 24-29 degrees Celsius with humidity at 80%. Many of the species reproduce in the park itself , so as well as butterf lies you can watch the f ascinating stages of their biological cycle, observe their courtship f lights and mating and see the cycle f rom eggs to caterpillars. As new butterf lies are born every day in the nursery you wouldnt want to miss the rare opportunity of seeing how they hatch f rom the chrysalis, open their wings and take their f irst f light.

Alongside the butterf lies you will f ind an array of plants that are essential f or their lif e. Each species of butterf ly needs a specif ic plant to lay its eggs in. T his is called the Host Plant. T his close relationship between plants and butterf lies is a result of millions of years of evolution. It is important that f emale butterf lies f ind and recognise their host plants among the vast botanical diversity of the tropical f orests. With so many amazing natural sights to see you wont want to f orget your camera. Taking photographs
