All the configured data can be carried on a single LAN. LAN cables/fibers instead of dedicated metallic wiring. Interoperability between IEDs from different vendors. Modifications or additions can be easily achieved.

Certificates for IEDs are issued by KEMA. Positive/negative tests as defined by UCAIUG/IEC are performed. UniCA: Simulator/Analyzer with programmed scripts provided by KEMA is used.

Conformance does not mean Interoperability. Not all parts of the test procedure defined by UCAIUG/IEC are covered. Mainly IEC61850 communications interfaces are tested. Connections between the relay application and the communications interfaces are too complex to be tested by KEMA. No performance tests are carried out.

Minimize the transmission time of the GOOSE packet is important. Significant savings in processing time;
The way we process the sending and receipt of GOOSE message. The time overheads consumed between receiving/interpret/response/generate/sending GOOSE packet processes.

Maximum response time of GOOSE (ta) < 0.7ms < 0.7ms < 0.7ms
Response time of the IED only is monitored. A minimum of 100 tests required. Tests carried out under simulated GOOSE network traffic.

Conclusion IEC 61850 GOOSE is now being widely used in many substation applications. GOOSE messaging performance is a critical issues in achieving substation functions. The performance criteria for IEC 61850 GOOSE massaging as defined by the standard are described. The design concept, implementation and test results satisfying the performance criteria of less than 3 ms for trip command etc. are described. By using high performance GOOSE messaging, users will be able to obtain the intended benefit from IEC 61850
