Secret Cinema & Future Cinema (volunteer)

Worked as a volunteer for the production Bugsy Malone. This included concessions (selling refreshments), tickets, cloakrooms and setting up the splurge fight at the end. I asked to take part in additional tasks, such as shadowing the filming for the promotion video, and acting as a character within the performance to gain valuable experience. Following this I was offered a part time acting role within the performance. I was then asked to cover a member of staffs duties for two days. This included control of the doors, getting guest lists to and from volunteers, deciding when to close the main doors and using an earpiece to stay in contact with other members of staff.

I was then called back to work with Secret Cinema on their large scale production. For this I worked pre-production and worked within the offices. This lead to being offered stage management but had to turn this down due to other commitments; however, I did have huge responsibilities working with then. I helped manage a team of volunteers to cover the floor at the production. My tasks included conducting detailed tours around the venue, managing three or four volunteers on a floor to ensure all areas were covered, asses areas that needed security or a volunteer to help control the public. On top of this I was asked to take care of any disabled guests that visited who could not navigate the venue well. 2011 Hayes Radio station (unpaid part time work)

Here I co-hosted a radio show with an experienced radio presenter. My duties included presenting traffic/weather news (live on air), recording and editing interviews to play live on radio, and at one time conducted a live telephone interview. I learnt how the presenter of the show controls the production live on air.

2007-09

Questers and Purple Theatre Companies

I have worked backstage and front stage for both theatre companies. During this time I learnt how a production is run from behind the scenes, the importance of team working and how all aspects of production need to work together to deliver the performance. Personal Statement. I am an intelligent, enthusiastic individual who loves to learn new things. At university I have joined many societies and extra-curricular activities, such as rock climbing, French, learning guitar, film, scuba diving. I have also taken a keen interest in doing extra work towards my course such as taking the responsibilities of module representative for the end of term meetings. My main interest at university has been Radio Brunel, and getting involved as much as possible. Last year I was executive team that runs the radio and we have regular meetings to make Brunel Radio better, however I have stopped this due to better time management for my third year at university.. On top of this, another member and I have created our own breakfast show. The show consists of hourly news as well as chart music mixed with interviews, games and humorous recordings. As you can see from the above I have used my initiative to find work experience outside of university, such as local radio and working for Future Cinema. I am a very proactive individual and once I set my mind to something I get it done. This can also be seen by the extra responsibilities I have been given whilst volunteering.
