Transport Planning & Engineering

Rodgers Leask Ltd has been providing design services to the construction industry for over 20 years. In 2011, these services expanded to include traffic and transportation consultancy. Most developments of any reasonable size require a transport assessment. A transport assessment is the study of the effect of the development upon the transport network. Works that can be undertaken include: Transport Assessment / Statement production Travel Planning Junction Modelling (priority junction / roundabout / traffic signals and signalised roundabouts) Parking Assessment Accessibility Appraisal Detailed junction design Detailed traffic signal design and commissioning Development optimisation (identification of capacity limits of existing junctions to identify limiting factors) Feasibility Assessment Intelligent Transport Systems Multi Modal Assessments Liaison and negotiation with highway authorities

From initial feasibility of a site through to the construction of the infrastructure, Rodgers Leask Ltd have the transport and traffic engineering capability to provide for the inception of your project through to implementation. Below: An example of initial junction design work completed for a prestigious development. The junction provides minimal delay whilst minimising costs and providing management of the traffic flow through the use of Micro Processor Vehicle Actuation (MOVA)

Above: Example of a gravity model visualisation, showing the likelihood of travel to a site based upon travel time. Produced by using CENSUS data cross referenced to the Google journey time assessment.

Travel Planning
Travel Planning is a requirement for the vast majority of planning applications. Modern society has grown around the car and as a result residential and work places are often disparate. This leads to a reliance upon the car and the consequential pollution and congestion issues that arise. Travel plans are documents that seek to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles used to travel to the development. Travel Planning requires the assessment of: Public transport services and facilities local to the development Facilities for walking to the development Facilities for cycling to the development.

Walking

Cycling
Measurement of existing performances will be taken as a benchmark to measure improvement against. Following this measures will be suggested that promote sustainable travel. An example of these measures could be; Showering and cycle storage facilities Bus shelter provision or bus service penetration of the site Car club establishment (short term car loan for an annual fee) Cycle Buddy Club (matching up experienced cyclists with beginners) Walking route improvement (paving / lighting / crossing points etc) Through site pedestrian routes (Direct routes for pedestrians reducing walk time) Segregated pedestrian and cycle tracks (off carriageway)
