T V
THE DESIGN STUDIO LIVING ON THE EDGE TAKES PLACE AT THE SOUTHERN AUSTRALIAN COAST AND ILLUSTRATES A MODULAR, MOBILE AND FLEXIBLE STRUCTURE THAT IS ABLE TO BE COMBINED WITH ALTERED VERSIONS OF ITSELF. ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO BE USED ON A SPECIFIC PLACE, THE DESIGN TURNED OUT TO ADAPT IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS.

C ONCEP T
The basic idea of the proposal asks for the minimal space that one human needs to live. In this case, the term of living is supposed to be reduced to its very extreme, namely sleeping, eating, relaxing, sitting, working etc. In order to define the dimension and the proportional relation of the smallest possible area, a couple of roleplays bordered a symmetric rectangle that resembles a kite. Based on the determined geometry, the structure is built as an addition of the reflected shapes in turn. By stacking these floor plans, the projection leads to an equilateral triangle which is responsible for an ideal carrying structure on the one hand, and simultaneously provides the vertical circulation within the tent on the other.
The kites framework consists of light but stable metal bars to keep the construction transportable. At the end of each bar there is a detail that connects the supporting ropes to the stiff part of the tent. The space between the frame is stringed with a membrane that is used for the covering of the tent as well. The modularity of the project is especially shown when it comes to putting several tents together in order to generate space for a larger number of users. The single modules offer the possibility of interconnecting more than one structure by simply enlarging rooms for common spaces or service areas.

M ANUAL
As the modular system is planned to be portable and affordable, it is important to go into detail concerning the tents usage. The number of tenants can be variable and decides on the scale and quantity of the single prefabricated modules. This quality makes the proposal the ideal opportunity to determine a particular purpose. The carrying structure explicitly cnsists of tractive forces in the form of ropes, which requires the clamping at both ends of the construction. Additionally, intersections between the tent and the respective surface are fixed for further stability. The covering membrane equals a regular polyester casing but is more hydrophobic and isolated in order to guarantee a well-being inside. The proposal turned out to be not only flexible in its scale but also in the variety of its capabilities in terms of local conditions. Additional to its original use, it can variably be installed in several scenarios, e.g. as a parasite in dense cities or as an extension of small, regular suburban nurseries.

C ONVERSION
AS A RESULT OF THE EXPANDING URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE, THE WORKSHOP ZURICH ROAD WORKS INTENDS A REDESIGNING OF THE CITYS PERIPHERY INCLUDING TYPOLOGICAL, VISUAL AND PROGRAMMATIC CHANGES. IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW RAILROAD LINE, THE SUBURBAN AREA IS CONFRONTED WITH A HIGHER DENSITY AND THE REQUIREMENT OF A MODERN NETWORK.

The zone to work with during the urban design workshop extends from central Zurich to the northwestern rural area of Spreitenbach. On a field trip to Switzerland, the local conditions and structures were observed and analysed by various studies, concentrating on urbanistic phenomenons like density, infrastructure and the environment.
Therefore, the ultralarge domain was subdivided into the number of groups, each dealing with a different, smaller area to produce several masterplans within a huge megastructure. The assigned section describes a heterogeneous townspace in terms of typological and spatial issues. The area is mainly divided by a busy road and the river Limmat.

IN T ERVEN T ION
The five-week seminar successively asked to design future scenarios for the urban redevelopment of the periphery. The intervention plans to inundate the preexisting landscape by adjusting the topographical deviations between the residential and the natural part and simultaneously bridging the gap above the separating railroad track. As a consquence of a higher density that automatically comes with the installation of a new railroad line, an additional amount of residential space is installed on top of the established buildings for a vertical rather than horizontal expansion. The program underneath the newly formed layer 0 contains all public services such as infrastructure, supermarkets and open spaces, whereas the private sector is clearly located apart from the urban interference. The main focus on the design proposal consists in the isolation of the noisy trackage. By burying these railroads, the sonic production is reduced and new space for more dwelling houses is provided on top of the ground to connect the riverside to the existing settlement and to improve the citizens life quality.
S M L X
ON THE SYNAPSIS BETWEEN A NATURAL AND AN INDUSTRIAL FLOW, THERE IS A LARGESCALE HOUSING PROJECT THAT MANAGES TO MAINTAIN THE MAJORITY OF THE EXISTENT LANDSCAPE PARK. THE COMPACTNESS AND THE EFFICIENCY OF THE RESIDENCE TOWER GOES ALONG WITH ITS SYSTEMATIC LAYOUT THAT ALLOWS A MAXIMUM OF VARIABILITY AND A UNIQUE PANORAMIC VIEW.
Logement
Zurich
SYS T E M
As the french title Logement sur lherbe states, the design studio tends to propose a housing project on a piece of unaffected nature within a suburban context. The location is set at the intersection of two lines: the railway tracks as a built head way on the one side, and the Limmat as a grown stream on the other. The site consists of a green park and a couple of trees that border it from the riverbank. Based on the idea of wanting to keep the existing park as natural as possible, the project sets a minimal footprint on the ground and allows the remaining space to be designed freely.
The inner organisation follows a strict and logical strategy acting on the assumption that all flats are supposed to be arranged around a central service core. The circulation is the epicenter of a braided cross which is in turn reflected. Four circles of different sizes are now inscribed: S, M, L, XL. The tangential connection of these generate the prototypical form of one floor plan, whose diverse phenotypes are developed through reflection and rotation. Each level consists of four modules that dont necessarily represent one flat but should rather be considered as single units that can be interconnected among each other to enable the formation of two- or three-storey apartments.
The production and the vertical addition of various floor plans lead to the final shape of the building, whose conscious setting increases the value of the green space. As none of the levels is equal to any other, there inevitably are overlaps that can ideally be used as an outdoor area for every room. Every living area is organised around another core providing the plumbing units. This layout creates a free spatial set-up that allows a flexible division into compartments. The curved form of the glass facade provides a widescreen panorama and visually enlarges the room by utilizing its full ratio.

THE COMPETITION BUENOS AIRES NEW CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM, ORGANIZED BY AC-CA, IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE CITYS ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT VIS-VIS THE PUENTE DE LA MUJER BY SANTIAGO CALATRAVA. THE PROPOSAL UNITES THE PROGRAMMATIC DEMANDS WITHIN A COMPACT CUBE BY CREATING AN INFINITE CIRCULATION AROUND THE GALLERIES.

P RINCIP L E
Based on the most compact geometry, the structural organisation inside the museum provides an eternal circulation. A randomly created twodimensional grid offers the borderlines to shape the form of the stairs. The main exhibition spaces are located at the edge of the cube. The circulation is part of the gallery, and the galleries are part of the circulation. Each level of the proposal looks different in terms of composition and alignment, but still the whole infrastructure is seen as one trajectory. The urbanistic outline is justified by the thought of creating a maximum outdoor area for large-scale artworks or installations. One special fact about the building is the concept of installing art not only in the designated galleries. Parts of the exhibition can be hung down from the ceiling to be watched while walking along the stairs. In the middle of each of the four sides there are service rooms and elevators for visitors who either like to skip parts of the exhibition or just want to go to the public auditorium that is located on the highest level of the building.

IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE ZURICH SUBURBS, A NEW COMMUNITY CENTER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FOUND. BESIDES PUBLIC ROOMS SUCH AS SALLE DE FTE AND LOBBY, THE SALON PRIPHRIQUE CONTAINS A COUPLE OF PRIVATELY RENTABLE FLATS, CALLED HTTLI.

SI T UAT ION
The seminar Salon priphrique takes place in Dietikon, Zurich, and shows the building of a new city center including rentable rooms and public spaces. The site is located along the new tram line and is therefore supposed to act as a station as well. The fact that the required space allocation program is exactly as large as the area of the site led to the idea of designing a structure that completely fills in the given dimension without having to plan more than one level.
Therefore the basic form of the site is elevated with a 15 slope on the front side, generating space underneath the cantilever. The figure creates an understorey providing space to wait for the next tram. The area below the hovering building is planned to be public space, offering various opportunities to relax and hang out. The sections best show the internal organisation of the concept. As the construction is confronted with a slope, there is a need to make sure that the rooms are still accessable and even.
Thus the angular areas that have to be flat are folded into the building and are now able to be used. The private Httli can be reached over the large back slope of the building, which is supposed to be designed as a public park that arises from the floor. In order to give the center an official entrance, the salle de fte is the only room to be folded down to the floor so it both connects the figure to the ground and additionally stabilizes the carrying structure.

S TORY
The idea of the video consists of a camera that continuously moves from the bottom to the top of a certain room while recording an amount of short plots. The most important thing is the crossover from the end of a take to the beginning of another in order to produce an endless loop.
The advice is connected to a rope that is lifted by an electric motor. Another two ropes are responsible for the smooth ride of the camera. The main story of the film is about a man trying to find his way up, while another small things happen in the back: flying sheets, rising balloons, water falling down etc.
The continuity of the short movie turns into an atmospheric work as accelerating and slowing adapt the background music. The video is able to be watched on the following link: http://vimeo.com/45163481

ARCHE T YP E
The seminar started with the choice of a natural phenomenon, structure or image that was supposed to be developed afterwards. In the first step, one was asked to observe and analyse the found archetype by recognizing and highlighting potential characteristics. The next task called for the translation of the regularities, gradients and algorithms from the two-dimensional picture to a tectonical model, using computational tools like Grasshopper and digital production technology such as a laser cutter or a milling machine. The image of eroded sandstone shows several peculiarities, e.g. minimal carrying structure with maximal hollow space which is very efficient when it comes to material consumption. Another special feature is that the distribution and form of the single modules are based on a Voronoi grid. This image was then transformed into a three-dimensional diagram, generating an amount of prototypes by building a system of compatible units. The last step of the fabrication process is to fill the geometry with minimal surfaces in order to translate the laminar structure into a physical model. The cutout is based on Bzier curves that depend on the size and the amount of edges on one side of the geometry.
