Garza Independence High School

November 29, 2012

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter on behalf of Sarah Martinez. In my work with Sarah, she has exhibited the character and strength that we have come to expect from students at Gonzalo Garza Independence High School. She is young woman who has held steady to the course and has completed the horticulture multicredit course that includes: economics, government, horticulture science, and agribusiness marketing and management. Sarah is bright and pleasant to be around. She is a quiet student with a dry sense of humor, a creative problem solver and such an incredible addition to any classroom. What a joy to be associated with Sarah! Even though Sarah is very serious about her classes, she has learned to "keep all of the balls in the air". Sarah knows when to really enjoy life and when it is time to be serious about her work. As a result, she can be on task and attend to assignments; her work is outstanding, and always exhibits her attention to detail, and creative problem solving skills. It is her intellect,. common sense and people skills that are highly respected by everyone around her. She is respected not only by the adults around her, but her peers. It is not unusual for Sarah to take a leadership role in class discussions and decisions. She does so with poise and confidence. Again she does this of her own accord. As an active member of Garza's Gardens, (a program in conjunction with Texas State University), Sarah made sure that the herbs were the best quality and ready for market as well as taking care or her vegetable garden in the cafeteria garden. She did so with little or no instruction from me. She also is a very major part of the Speak Up, Speak Out program at University of Texas. On short notice (2 weeks) Sarah is researching, writing, and presenting a 4-minute speech on the lack of nutritious food availability or food desert in east Austin. She not only did research within the group, but also talked to the stake holders in east Austin. I look forward to her presentation on December 5th. It is more than her intellect, common sense and problem solving skills that make her a star. It is Sarah's good nature, incredible smile and willing to do what is required to make this planet a better place to live that will make her a star. She will make a difference in the world and I look forward to seeing the difference she
