Title & Description The Importance of Play: Using theories of Human Development to Better Understand Play. Would you like to improve the quality of play in your classroom? This class offers ideas on how to use theory and knowledge of play to improve play time and make it as developmentally productive as possible. Teaching Life Skills through Scientific Inquiry. This presentation will provide real classroom examples of the project approach in action, with an emphasis on how to scaffold childrens learning to promote creative problemsolving and critical thinking. Ways to Create a Science Play-based Learning Environment. Play is the main vehicle for how young children learn and develop their knowledge and skills. This workshop focuses on ways that teachers can incorporate play into their science centers and curriculum. How do we fit it all in? Making the Most of our Time while Teaching the Curriculum. With the growing demand on a teacher's time, how do you fit it all in? This class will help you to gain a better understanding of how integrated instruction of science with language arts can help you save time. During our time together, you will have the opportunity to work with other teachers and plan an integrated lesson and assessments to take back to use in your classroom. Outdoor Classroom. Setting up an effective outdoor classroom to support learning in various interest areas. Recognizing Stress and Stressors in Early Childhood Education Classrooms. This workshop will focus on the importance of learning to slow down and appreciate how infants and toddlers play and explore. When we learn to see as the child does, we find joy and excitement in our work. Sensory Experiences with Infants, Toddlers, and Twos. Come and learn quick and easy sensory experiences and ideas perfect for infants, toddlers, and twos. The Teacher's Role in Promoting Literacy as a Source of Enjoyment. Come explore how literacy learning begins with listening and speaking. Through meaningful speech and conversations children learn to organize their thoughts and ideas, and construct an understanding of the rules of language. Ready, Set, Go! Strategies for Pre-K Readiness, Literacy, and Math.. Come learn engaging teaching strategies that can be implemented with children of diverse abilities and learning styles and foster early academic success in a joyful environment. This session provides a developmentally appropriate progression of play activities using common multisensory materials to promote crucial social, physical, early literacy, and math foundation skills Using Observation-Based Assessment Information to Individualize Children's Learning. Participants will examine the steps of the assessment cycle and review strategies for seamlessly linking curriculum and observation-based assessment. Individualizing childrens learning through thoughtful observation, family conferences, and planning will drive the discussion. The Scientific Method for Young Children. The process of science is what really counts. This session will provide participants with an opportunity to experience seven basic steps of scientific discovery and problem solving. Secondary Trauma & Self-Care. Considering recent national events, it is essential for educators to be aware of their own secondary trauma. This hands-on, interactive workshop will provide an overview of what secondary trauma is and how we can manage it through improved self-care. I Think I Can: Meeting the Challenges of Continuous Program Improvement. Using a roundtable format, directors of four local NAEYC accredited early childhood programs will discuss examples of practical solutions for meeting quality improvement challenges (e.g. finding funding, staff and family buy-in), respond to questions from participants, and provide time for participants to network and begin a support network. Asthma-Friendly Child Care. This interactive workshop will help child care administration and staff understand how to care for children with asthma and create an asthma-friendly child care environment using learning activities, case studies, and discussion. Help Me Grow: Linking Children and their Families to Community Based Resources. This session will help participants plan a comprehensive, firstlevel screening program to obtain community based resources for infants, young children, and their families. Early Brain and Child Development- How do Early Experiences Impact the Lives of Our Children? This session will explore these critical questions for ensuring the well-being of our children: What is toxic stress? Why do the first 1000 days really matter? How can we Build Bridges in our state to minimize toxic stress in the lives of Utah's youngest? Cooking in the Classroom. This session provides ideas for using cooking activities in the classroom. Handle with Care: Promoting Mental Health and Preventing Mental Illness for Young Children. Signs of potential mental, emotional and behavioral disorders are often apparent at very young age. Come learn to identify risk factors, handle difficult situations, discuss concerns with parents, decide when and how to contact Child Protective Services, and appropriate self-care when caring for others. I Don't Have Time for That! - Taking Control of Your Professional Life. Being organized and feeling organized are two different things. This workshop includes tips and ideas to organize your values, find your priorities, focus your energy and get more things done. Utah Kids Ready to Read. Visual Art Integration for Emerging Literacy. This workshop introduces a research project designed to increase language and literacy skills among ELL (and English speaking) kindergarten students using visual art integration. Both the results of the study and the lesson design model will be presented, and resources will be made available to early childhood educators interested in implementing some of the strategies in their own classrooms. Artful Scientist. Come learn ways to create inexpensive science and art projects for the classroom, while creating valuable experiences for children by using nature and recycled materials to teach multiple messages. Discover Construction with STEM. Learn about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and how you can use it your classroom through construction toys. Moments with Monet. Explore the power of the palette and paint for young children. Create your own work of art using the style of Monet. Let's be Scientific Explorers. This class will explore exposing children to science exploration through gardening and nature based play. Activities, songs, hands-on experiences and study topics will be introduced that will provide strategies to accomplish outcomes across all areas of development and learning. The Music of Learning. Music touches us personally, stimulates our ability to remember and reduces stress. Come learn basic tips and utilize music as an educational tool for integrating core concepts, increasing observation skills and experiential fun! No previous musical experience is required. Not Just Cute: Teaching with Intention. There is no shortage of good ideas in this Pinterest-driven world, but what we may lack is purpose. In this session, we'll discuss how to teach with intention by learning the Recognize Emphasize - Maximize approach to teaching. Avoid Intention Deficit Disorder and learn to plan and prepare an environment that will promote meaningful experiences for the children you teach. "Woodworking in the Classroom? You Bet!" The Value of Constructive Construction Play. This is a hands on session where you will experience how woodworking with real wood and a variety of real hand tools can be introduced and implemented with preschoolers and older children. We will discuss how to inexpensively obtain the materials, and offer a safe and a progressive method that encourages open-ended play and creativity where math and literacy skills can be embedded. Gender Bias in Children's Literature. Childrens literature has been proven to be biased when it comes to the depiction of male and female characters. This session focuses on: How to identify bias, purchase childrens literature that is equitable, and combat bias in childrens favorite books. This presentation is based on a 2012 research project comparing childrens literature in the United States and Norway that identified bias in American books found in child care and Head Start programs. Attuning for Personal and Organizational Change. Successful coaching relationships are based on a collaborative process of co-learning where the coach is allowed the same opportunity as the coachee to reflect on self as part of their learning. We will explore how the concepts of Change Theory and Systems Thinking facilitate learning and results and how to apply these concepts to early childhood coaching. Expanding from concrete coaching skills to organizational learning, with hands on, interactive experiences. Everything Immunizations. Participants will learn the immunization schedule and how to know if a child is up to date on vaccines, receive an introduction to the Utah State Immunization Registry, and directions for completing the November Report. Initiations and Interactions Early Intervention Techniques for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This session will provide caregivers and educators practical strategies to encourage positive interactions and increase communication in young children at risk, or diagnosed with, an autism spectrum disorder. Strategies will include research based interventions that encourage caregiver engagement, expressive and receptive communication, and social interactions. Video examples of techniques will be utilized to demonstrate strategies and provide opportunities for dialogue among participants. Protecting Utah's Kids: An Adults Responsibility. This presentation will help adults learn the types, signs and laws relating to child abuse as well as understand their responsibility to protect children. Grooming behaviors used by child predators will be discussed. As adults you will understand how to talk to a child about abuse. Eggs and Ham and Strawberry Jam: Science and Language in the Kitchen. Looking for an activity that encourages creativity, builds selfconfidence, develops small motor control, teaches about other cultures, expands language, reading, and math skills, includes science experiments, and more? Try cooking! In this workshop we will explore ways to bring favorite stories to life through food experiences. Science and God in Preschool. Biblical and faith-infused instruction during science activities with preschool children. Building a Solid Foundation. Relationships and strong teaching skills are important for creating the optimal learning environment. Jump into Australia through Folk Tales and the Arts. Using Australian folk tales as a jumping off point we will explore some singing, movement, and craft activities, as well as animal species unique to Australia. Sensory Experience and Classroom Strategies in Promoting Childrens Success at School. This workshop aims at defining sensory integration, with focus on when and how to use sensory strategies to promote childrens success at school. Adaptive equipment will be introduced in the hands-on portion of this workshop, with a take-me-home project. Learn easy, fun, and inexpensive ways to create a sensory-enriched classroom!

LEAP into Science aims to inspire exploration and questioning, providing opportunities for children and families to think like scientists and investigate scientific phenomena with familiar materials and relevant children's literature. Just Get Out! Tips & Techniques for Science Exploration Outdoors. Nature provides the perfect classroom for young children, but it can be daunting to take groups of little ones outdoors to explore. Ogden Nature Center Teacher-naturalist Susan Snyder will help teachers find ways to make outdoor learning accessible, while providing some fun lesson plans and local resources for outdoor learning. Learning about Science through Play. Young children love the mystery and magic of science. Learn effective instructional strategies that will provide opportunities for young children to learn more about the world they live in. Help young children explore their world through hands-on experiences, inquiry, and play. Take the Sigh Out of Science. During this session, you will get YOUR hands on interesting and engaging materials. You Want to Grow the Brain, Build the Relationship! Do you ever wonder why children do what they do in the first three years? Much of children's behavior is driven by what is happening within their developing brain and their relationships with adults. We will talk about how the brain develops, how we can support optimal brain development and create a better understanding of social/emotional development and why babies, toddlers and twos do what they do. Incorporating Environmental Education with Literature. Using hands-on, inquiry-based methodology, participants will learn how to incorporate environmental education into lesson planning using children's literature. Participants will be given an example of a lesson plan guided around a nature based read-aloud. Bouncing Off Books. In this Learn and Take session child care providers will learn to develop fun and easy lesson plans that include art, movement, nature discovery and hands on play, by bouncing off the books that they already love. Tips will be shared on enriching the home or classroom using children's literature. How Early Childhood Programs can help Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect. Early Childhood Programs can develop strategies to build the protective factors in families that have been proven to reduce child abuse and neglect. Participants will learn about these program strategies and protective factors, begin to understand their role in prevention and find out how to get more information and support for implementing program changes. Autism: Paying Attention to Joint Attention. This presentation will discuss the characteristics of autism. What is it? How do I recognize it? How does it influence development and learning? What is joint attention? How do I promote joint attention in a young child with autism? Glad Monster, Sad Monster. This Learn & Take workshop is a fun, interactive way to explore the many different ways we feel! Youll have an opportunity to make simple props so you can help the children walk through the wide range of moods all little monsters (and kids!) experience.

Addressing Sexual/Physical Abuse in the Classroom Setting. This workshop will help participants learn to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse and methods of reducing intensity of trauma reactions. Proper Nutrition is a Start to Helping Children Grow Smart. Come learn about the importance of proper nutrition and fun ways to incorporate healthy foods in the everyday routines of your child care program! This session offers interesting and engaging ideas for child care providers to help children learn about and find enjoyment in healthy food. You will leave with items and ideas to help you model and promote sensible eating habits in your program! Take a Hike. Learn how to prepare for and execute some hiking adventures that will be lifetime memories for the children in your care, whether you go up a mountain or just around the block. We will help you load a backpack you can keep with all of the things you will need to have a delightful hiking adventure with young children. M & M's: Using Music and Movement Throughout the day. Music provides ways for communication and expression, helps with physical development, develops math concepts, promotes creative thinking, and so much more! Signing in School: Simple Signs That Will Transform Your Classroom. Participants will learn how to use simple ASL (American Sign Language) signs to transform their classrooms. The signs will enhance any curriculum and provide a unique and effective way to manage student behavior, teach literacy and math skills, make the classroom more interactive, smooth transition times, aid special needs and inclusion programs, check student comprehension, and help students excel in countless ways. Transitions for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos. Helping infants, toddlers and twos transition through activities and routines with enjoyment for both children and adults.
