KEERAN D
MALAYSIAN DHOL FEDERATION (MDF)
Keeran D is a household name when it comes to Dhol Drumming in Malaysia. Having founded Malaysian Dhol
Federation in 1996, he had brought Dhol playing to a whole new platform vibrating the region with his Dhol
beats. The idea of combining traditional Dhol beats with modern music was brought forward by Keeran D
which became a hit overnight among music producers and composers. Coming from a humble simple
background, Keeran D had been featured in both local and foreign media. In 2004 and 2005, MDF was
featured in radios and television channels namely TV3, NTV7, Zee-TV, RED104.9, ASTRO and etc. The
biggest achievement was when MDF represented Dhol Drumming in the Rain Forest World Music Festival in
2006 which brought much fame and recognition. The list of achievements continue to grow throughout the
years under the leadership of Keeran D. MDF was also involved in the recently launched album GOLDKARTZ
in 2008, which is the first Bhangra Album launched in the region. Among other artistes, Keeran D had also
been featured in Reshmonu, Vallavan & Natchatra.
SUNEEL K
SINGAPORE DHOL FEDERATION (SDF)
An extension from MDF, SDF was founded in 2007 by Suneel K who originates from the same
home town with Keeran D. It had been 2 years since SDF opened the floodgates on a wondrous
torrent of intense percussive grooves in Singapore. Using the distinctive sounds of the DHOL
drum, SDF harnesses the incredible rhythms of the Punjab, unleashing a killer brand of bhangra-
infused rhythms. As avid disciples of the DHOL drums, they play their own brand of Bhangra
rhythms fused with world music, funk, afrobeat, local ethnic rhythms and whatever sounds these
urban jungle dwellers devour and regurgitate. The extraordinary power and drive of SDF at full
throttle has been said to raise the spirits of the Punjab. SDF had been featured in Vasantham
Central, Channel News Asia, Formula 1 and MTV ASIA.
