3. Andrew Chung 12 Humanities August 30, 2012 Persuasive Paragraph Hey - Im really sorry, but due to my work, our family has to move to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. On the other hand, though, I think its a really great move. Have you ever imagined paradise on Earth? Have you ever imagined living in one of the richest cities in the world? I can at least guarantee its going to be better than staying in Fairbanks, Alaska. To begin with, Ill clarify on the biggest difference the climate. Mother, arent you always complaining that we have chilly summers and Siberian winters here? That you cant stand another day of the cold? Well, the solution is in Abu Dhabi. There, the winters give you a pleasant sensation the average temperature is 20~22 Celsius. Sure, the summers can be hot but we can work that out with portable fans and a water bottle. Another reason for why it would be sensible to move to Abu Dhabi is because of the wide variety of sights to see. For instance, the European Tour Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship is held each year at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Father, its one of the only European Tour events Tiger Woods comes out in. Dont you want to see him play? In addition, the worlds fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa, is at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. It reaches up to speeds of 240 km/h, and I can assure you, little sis, that it feels like youre riding on a cheetah. The $3 billion worth Emirates Palace Hotel is one of Abu Dhabis most famous hotels with 114 domes, an elegant interior, and a main Palace building that stretches over a kilometer. I definitely think its worth staying at least one night at one of the worlds most expensive hotels. Lastly, and Father, I know youre going to be pleased with this the traditional Arabian cuisine you can eat there is a huge delight. Father, youve always said you wanted to try different kinds of Asian food. Well, youll have another meal to add to your collection. Famous appetizers are hummus (a blend of spices and chickpeas) and tabbouleh (a salad of cracked wheat and parsley with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and olive oil.) The traditional meal of whole lamb and spiced rice is served after the appetizers. Ghawah (Arabic coffee) is served at the end of your meal. Of course, its up to the person if they like the food or not but I know your taste buds better than anyone else, and I am sure that you guys will love the food there. All in all, I hope my family, who I trust more than anyone else, will come with me and live in the wealthy city of Abu Dhabi, the place of paradise.

Explanatory Paragraph Abu Dhabi is very unique because of its place, region, and human-environment interaction. For place, Abu Dhabi has many different human and physical characteristics. Abu Dhabi is surrounded by vast, flat desert wasteland towards the

south. The Persian Gulf is in the north of the city. Abu Dhabi has a population of over 600,000. A cultural difference from many other places in the world is that Emirati people dont tend to expose their skin much. Men wear a dishdasha, an ankle-length robe, along with a red head cloth called a gutra. Women wear an abaya, a long black robe, along with a shayla, a headscarf. Some women also wear veils that cover their face. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, one of the largest Muslim temples in the world, is in Abu Dhabi for a reason almost every citizen in the United Arab Emirates is a Muslim. Now, Abu Dhabi is in one of the most famous regions in the world the Middle East. Countries in the region include Saudi Arabia, Israel, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and more. All the countries in the Middle East are either in Western Asia or North Africa. In modern times, it has become a region sensitive to many different issues. Syria, one of the countries in the Middle East, has had a civil war for some time now. However, the United Arab Emirates hasnt recently been involved in a conflict as big as this. Finally, human-environment interaction plays a big role in Abu Dhabi. From being a small fishing village just a few decades ago, Abu Dhabi became a major urban center in the UAE. How? Through the discovery of oil in the desert south of the city, Abu Dhabi suddenly became very rich and got the money they needed to modify its environment. Today, ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) produces over 2.7 million barrels of oil a day in the Abu Dhabi emirate. In conclusion, place, region, and human-environment interaction is what makes Abu Dhabi the current Abu Dhabi.
