Great Futures Intern Program

POSITION: HOURS: Part Time Program Specialist Two to five days per week up to maximum 20 hours. Usual shift between 2PM to 7PM, varies with location and school calendar. Schedule may increase to 40 hours per week during summer. LOCATION(S): Multiple BGCSPS sites throughout Pierce, Mason and Kitsap counties JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Program Director or his/her designee, a program specialist plans, organizes, implements, supervises and evaluates all programs and activities provided in a specific program area. These include, but are not limited to, Boys & Girls Clubs 5 Core Program Areas (Character and Leadership Development, Education and Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation). This position is open to students in any degree program at UWT. A key objective of this role is to mentor and inspire young Boys & Girls Club members to graduate from high school on time with a plan for a successful future. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Promote safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times Provide guidance and role modeling to members Promote and stimulate program participation, welcome new members and participate in their orientation process Participate in weekly branch staff meetings as required Plan and conduct programs and activities in a special program area. Assure that there is a daily written schedule and that activities begin and end on time Prepare weekly reports as directed for the Program Director about activities, special programs, attendance and other reports as required Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the program area at all times Assist staff in securing and storing supplies and equipment appropriately Maintain close daily contact with club staff, club members, supervisor and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and understand guidelines/instructions

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Required: Must be currently enrolled (in any degree program) at University of Washington, Tacoma campus High School Diploma or equivalent Must pass National Criminal Background Check Must pass pre-employment drug test First Aid/CPR Training (able to obtain on the job) Able to work a flexible schedule

Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality Demonstrated strong verbal communication skills: o Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and passion o Ability to motivate youth and keep them engaged o Ability to be consistent; encourage honesty, responsibility, fairness, sportsmanship & respect o Ability to establish/maintain rapport with youth, staff, volunteers, partners & service providers Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to a teamwork environment Ability to plan and implement programming for youth and adolescents Experience working with youth and adolescents May be required to drive agency vans and if so, must meet licensing and insurance requirements

Preferred:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT This position may involve lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping, keyboarding and some running. Must be able to demonstrate and/or describe activities to youth. This position works around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to loud and unexpected noises.
