"It means that you trust in the Lord, you trust that He has a plan for your life. You trust that He's never going to put anything in front of you that's too hard for youso no matter what comes your way, you'll overcome it and it will make you stronger. [It's] the ability to influencein a positive wayso many other people, and just be able to spread the blessings that God has bestowed upon you."

In 2013, how can YOU be one of Gods few good men/women?

DOM LINES But God has made clear his love to us, (Romans 5:8 BBE) How do you demonstrate your love for someone? During the month of February, thirteen plus billion dollars will be spent on Valentines Day in an effort to tell others we love them. One hundred eighty million cards will be sent with expressions of love, seventy-three percent of the adult male population will give flowers to their sweetheart this year, and fourteen percent of women will send flowers to themselves. Candy, cards, and flowers are the three most popular ways to tell someone during the month of February you love them. Contrary to television commercials, which promote giving diamonds, less than eighteen percent will give their sweetheart jewelry. Store shelves are starting to look like the Hindenburg ready to explode. The Apostle Paul tells us that God has revealed HIS love for us through the death of HIS son Jesus. Peter describes Gods gift as far more precious than silver or gold (1 Peter 1:19). Jesus said there is no greater expression of love than a man gives up his life for his friends (John 15:13). Some may dare to die for a friend, but God demonstrated HIS love for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). In turn, we are to love the unlovable: If you have love for those who have love for you, what credit is it to you? for even sinners have love for those who have love for them (Luke 6:32). Jesus said, Have love for those who are against you, do good to those who have hate for you (Luke 6:27). Lets make the month of February a time to share the love of God with all those with whom we come in contact (It could become a habit). David Watson said, Gods love language to us is mercy and grace. Our love language to God is loving obedience.

COUNSELORS CORNER: Already we are well into the new year. How are you doing on those New Years Resolutions? Yeah, me too. But the Lord is reminding me of something that has nothing to do (thank goodness) with diet or exercise. You read about it in the quote from Drew Brees. Its about having/being a positive influence. A friend told me recently she was on an elevator at a local hospital when another passenger said to her, I know you. I see you every Sunday on TV in the choir at First Baptist Church. A while back I took an appliance to a small repair shop. A friend of the owner was there visiting with him. It was my third trip to the place to try to get the item fixed, so I was not pleased to be there again on the same errand. I tried to keep my cool and ask nicely, but firmly, for reasonable service. As I turned to leave, the owners friend said to me, Arent you the lady who was a missionary in China for a long time? How glad I was I hadnt given in to the frustration I wanted to dump on the repairman who had not done his job! You already know my point, and you have stories of your own like these --- instances when you were being observed without your knowledge and either passed or failed the test. The truth is that someone is watching all the time, and we are influencing that one for good or ill by our attitude, the way we treat others, the language we use, even the way we make a legitimate complaint. Much more important than what they might think of us is what they think of the One we represent. We bear His name; we are His ambassadors; we are always on duty in His service. Mahatma Ghandi is credited with saying he would be a Christian if he had not known so many of them. I cant help wondering who he knew and what he had seen in them and heard from them. You may feel that your sphere of influence is not very large, but you probably sell yourself short. Start with the members of your own family, move outward to those with whom you work or have frequent contact. Think about the places where you buy groceries, use the library, take your dry cleaning, mail packages. Are you a sight they welcome? Can they be sure of a kind or encouraging word from you? Will they see Him when you meet their eyes? I do hope I will be good about diet and exercise in 2013, but even more I hope that I will lift up as much as possible on my corner of the world. Whatever the weight of my influence, I want it to be positive. I believe the old saying is true: We may be the only Bible some will ever read.
