News From Room 207

Week of 2/4/13
I hope you had a relaxing weekend. I went skiing at Wachusett and the weather was absolutely incredible. I look forward to hearing about your weekend adventures at Morning Meeting. Our top readers for January were Sona with 3,550 minutes, Thomas with 2,804 minutes and Maya with 2,643 minutes. Our class had a grand total of 28,501 minutes. That is up over 5,000 minutes from last month. Great job everyone! We have our Mock Math MCAS this week on Wednesday. Your children are welcome to bring in sugar-free gum to be chewed during the test only. Please note that our States and Capitals quiz is on Friday. Additionally, our Fantasy/Science Fiction project is due on Friday. Every child must fill out the graphic organizer using complete sentences and turn it in with their project. If your child completed a quilt square for the last project, a different project should be completed this time. Upcoming Invention Convention Due Dates 2/28 Thursday Posters due Inventions and

Small groups of children will begin planning our packages to protect a raw egg from breaking as a result of a drop from a tall height. Next week, we will construct our packages. Teams that have their eggs "survive" the first drop in our room will be invited to participate in the grade-wide Egg Drop in the cafeteria Thank you to everyone for sending in supplies.

M ath We will continue with Unit 7 this week. Be sure to check out the Unit 7 sites found on our classroom blog. We will also go over our Mid-Year Math Assessment. Additionally, have your children practice their math facts as time allows. Social Studies Our States and Capitals quiz will be on 2/8/13. This week we will continue to look at the differences between the Upper and Lower South states.

English Language Arts We will begin to focus on synthesizing to better understand what we are reading. Additionally, we will focus on writing a persuasive piece based on a narrative piece we read called Strongest of All.
