Overview

Configuring Power Options


In Exercise 16.1, you examine the power settings used in the default power plans provided in Windows 7. 20 minutes

How do the different settings enable the High performance plan to achieve greater performance levels than either of the other two plans? With the high performance settings, you never have to worry about energy so nothing will try to limit you.

Creating a Custom Power Plan


In Exercise 16.2, you create power plans for your companys desktop and laptop workstations. 20 minutes

Overview

Using Powercfg.exe
Now that you have created power plans for your companys desktop and laptop computers, you must determine how to transfer those plans to other computers. In Exercise 16.3, you use the Powercfg.exe command line utility to export your power plans from your NYC-CLa workstation and import them on NYC-CLb. 10 minutes

Exercise 16.4
Overview

Using BitLocker
In addition to investigating power settings, your director wants you to examine the BitLocker feature included in Windows 7. For Exercise 16.4, you will use BitLocker to encrypt an external drive connected to your workstation using a password. 10 minutes

Under real world conditions, why would it be unwise to store the recovery key on the computer? If something happened to the computer, and you lost the recovery key, you would not be able to get anything back.
