Wild life protection and maintenance is called wild life conservation. Organisms that prepare their own food are known as autotrophs. Organisms that depend on others for their food is called heterotrophs. Example of autotrophs Green Plants. Leaves are green because of chlorophyll. Leaves have small openings called stomata. Sun is the ultimate source of energy for all forms of life. Parasites depend on host for food. Saprophytes depend on dead and decayed matter for food. The other name for venus trap plant is pitcher plant. When two organisms live together for mutual help then it is called symbiosis. Organisms living in symbiosis are called symbionts. When animals take in solid food, then the mode of nutrition is called holozoic. The process of taking food into the body is called ingestion. The process of breaking down of complex food into simple food with the help of enzymes is called digestion. The process by which the digested food passes into the blood vessels of the wall of the intestine is called absorption. The way in which the absorbed food is utilized in cells is called assimilation. The removal of undigested food through anus is called egestion. Amoeba engulfs the food through pseudopodia. Amoeba has a holozoic mode of nutrition. In Amoeba the digested food reaches the entire body through diffusion. Human ingest the food into the mouth cavity through mouth. There are three pair of salivary glands in human mouth. Teeth helps to grind food into small pieces. Saliva contains an enzyme called Amylase. Salivary amylase helps in the process of digestion of starch. Oesophagus is a tube that connects the mouth and stomach. Oesophagus helps to pass food from the mouth to the stomach. Food is churned in the stomach. Stomach secretes a digestive juice called gastric juice. Small intestine is about 7metre in length. Digested food is absorbed in Small intestine. Large intestine is about 1.5 metre in length. Large intestine helps in absorbing water. Theprocess of elimination of undigested food is called egestion. Movement of food in the digestive system is called peristalisis. The teeth which an one year old child gets is called milk teeth. Milk teeth are twenty in number. When milk teeth fall and new teeth grow, then the set of teeth are called permanent teeth. There are thirty-two permanent teeth. The chisel shaped teeth at the front of the mouth are the incisors. Incisors are used for biting the food. The sharp and pointed teeth are the canines. Canines are used for cutting and tearing of food. Pre-molars are the large teeth behind canines on each side. Pre-molars are used for chewing and grinding the food. Molars are present behind premolars. The first chamber of a cows stomach is called rumen. The process of chewing the cud is called rumination. Animals which chew the cud are called ruminants.
