PRAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION

President Obama and Mitt Romney will meet for a private lunch at the White House Thursday potentially for the President to enlist Romneys help with Republicans to avoid the fiscal cliff, and other economic matters. President Obama will visit a toy factory in Philadelphia Friday in an effort to encourage voters to help him persuade Congress to adopt his programs for raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans and other revenue sources. Pray for President Obama and his economic advisers and a spirit of cooperative negotiation during this fiscal crisis.

PRAY FOR OUR CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS

A special primary election to replace Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. will be held in February, Illinois governor Pat Quinn announced. Names of numerous potential candidates are already being floated for the position. Assistant Democratic Leader Senator Dick Durbin (Illinois) said Social Security is not part of the fiscal cliff discussions, and that Medicare and Medicaid entitlements should be put off for longer-term negotiations. With only a month remaining for decisions, pray for Congress to develop a spirit of conciliation on the economy.

PRAY FOR OUR JUDICIARY

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg hopes to see an all-female Supreme Court one day saying when it relates to the high court, women are here to stay. A group of Israeli-Americans has filed suit against the Obama Administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, alleging that U.S. aid money to the Palestinian Authority funds terrorist activities. Pray for our judiciary on every level to refrain from being political and focus on the law.

PRAY FOR THESE NATIONAL LEADERS IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK:

Susan Rice, United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Susan Collins, United States Senator from Maine. Judge Joe L. Heaton, United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. Brigadier General David Bishop, Commander, Warrior Transition Command.

OTHER PRAYER CONCERNS:

WARS AND TERRORISM
A forward operating base in eastern Afghanistan named in honor of slain Army Ranger and NFL star Pat Tillman has been closed, marking the beginning of the complete withdrawal of U.S. troops set in motion by the President. Persistent political interference has hampered efforts to unravel the colossal fraud at Kabul Ban, with President Karzai and a small panel of his top aides directing prosecutors as to who should be charged and who shouldnt. Pray about what will become of human rights in Afghanistan after U.S. and NATO troops leave.

FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

Japan is shifting its national security strategy, offering military aid and displaying its own armed forces in an effort to build regional alliances and shore up other countries defenses to counter a rising China. New satellite images show a marked increase in activity at a North Korean missile launch site, pointing to a possible long-range ballistic missile test, anticipated as early as some time in December. Pray about the unease in Asia, particularly with uncertainty about Chinas new regime directions.

THE ECONOMY
Retailers posted strong online sales on Cyber Monday, although some estimates showed a slowing growth rate, suggesting the ever-widening window for discounts has led to early over-spending by consumers. Consumer confidence rose to a four-and-a-half year high in November as purchasers became more optimistic about the outlook for the national economy, and more relaxed when the elections were concluded. Pray that the national optimism on the economy is not misplaced, but the result of true growth.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

France, Switzerland and Denmark announced they will vote in favor of Palestinian non-member status at the United Nations; Germany has said it will vote no, and the United Kingdoms early intentions are to abstain. U.S. may veto. Tens of thousands of Egyptians continue to descend on Cairo challenging new claims of power by President Morsi who decreed that the Egyptian judiciary cannot overturn any of his rulings. Pray about the vote to be held at the United Nations Thursday and the potential for demonstrations to follow.

HEALTH CARE
Research suggests digoxin, a common heart drug used by thousands, is linked to a significant increase in deaths. Patients taking digoxin should not stop their prescriptions without seeing their physician first. The manufacturer of a popular cholesterol-reducing medication, atorvastatin calcium, a generic version of Lipitor, has recalled more than 40 batches of their product warning they may contain small particles of glass. Pray for the safety of medications and the dangers of side effects. O give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; Make known his deeds among the peoples. 1 Chronicles 16:8
