We would like to Acknowledge the Wodi Wodi people who are the Traditional Custodians of this Land on which

PRINCIPAL REPORT

PEER SUPPORT TRAINING
Last Thursday and Friday our Year 6 students participated
in training to assist them in leading peer support groups in
2013. I was most impressed with their commitment to the
tasks set before them and their willingness to step out
beyond their comfort zone. I know they will be great peer
leaders and I would like to thank Mrs Murray for organising
the day and for the assistance she received from Ms
Connolly, Mr Lynch, Mrs Hanley and Mr Whelan. This
Monday 18 February Year 6 will conclude their training with
a workshop lead by Cameron Brown

SCRIPTURE LESSONS
This Wednesday all students from Kindergarten to Year 6
will have the opportunity to attend Religious education
classes. The school follows the Department of Education
and Communities guidelines related to the teaching of SRE
with representatives from the various faiths conducting
lessons across the school every Wednesday morning.
Lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes and are divided into
two groups. Scripture is offered for all students of the
Catholic faith and the remainder of students are grouped in
a combined protestant scripture lesson lead by scripture
teachers from a variety of local churches. Students are
allocated to scripture groups on the information provided
by parents when enrolling their children. If you do not wish
your child to participate in scripture lessons please provide
this advice in writing to your child's teacher.

SUNSMART POLICY
Parents are reminded that the school has a No Hat, Play in
the Shade Policy but I would request that all students
should have a hat. It is impossible to walk around our
school without being subjected to the rays of the sun.
Students are also encouraged to cover up and to wear
sunscreen. Sunscreen is provided at school but it would be
better to have applied sunscreen to children before they
come to school.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION
COMPETITION BEGINS
This week will see the commencement of interschool
competitive team sports. This will mean students will
during the course of the competition, travel by bus to
sporting fields outside of Helensburgh. It also means that
this will be the first opportunity for Year 3 to participate in
interschool sports. I would like to wish all our students well
as they try out to have the honour of representing their
school in a PSSA team.

SCHOOL VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS
One source of financial provision for the operation of our
school is by the collection of school contributions.
Voluntary Contributions are set by the P&C Association at
$40 for the first child and $70 for a family. At Helensburgh
Public School our voluntary school contributions are used
for classroom resources and payment would be greatly
appreciated.

Band and Instrument Lesson News
By now I have seen all of you at least once in lessons, we
have a great group of enthusiastic, budding musicians this
year! All lessons (band and private) will now be in the
dungeon. (Sounds much worse than it is!) If you are not
sure where that is, please stop me in the playground and
ask. There are still some instruments available for hire and
to start learning. If you think you'd like to join band, now is
the time when everyone is starting out! If you have any
questions, please ask. Keep Playing!

Our thanks go to the wonderful P and C for fully funding

incursion was fully covered by the P & C which saved the
parents considerable cost.
Thanks, also to the canteen ladies who organised and
served lovely meal deals for the Year 6 children to enjoy as
a special treat.
Many thanks,
