Click here for more pictures On behalf of the City of Mississauga and the residents of Malton, I want to extend a sincere thank you to the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) Team Up Foundation and Rona Inc for making a $54,000 donation to the refurbishment of the Malton Arena. This money will go a long way to revitalizing the Malton Arena, a landmark facility in the community. In September, I joined members of the community to form the Malton Shinny Hockey Program. Our goal was to get children in Malton playing hockey at the Malton Arena again. It has been close to 10 years since this has happened. It is my hope that these renovations, along with the Shinny Program, will lead to a renewed interest in hockey in Malton. On February 13th, I joined Mayor McCallion, Michael Cosentino of MLSE, Michael Bartlet, Executive Director of the Team Up Foundation and Bill Graham of Rona Mississauga for the official board cutting ceremony to mark the investment. Following the ceremonies, the community was invited to watch the Toronto Marlies practice. It was a great evening and I am so pleased that so many in the community were able to join us.

On Monday, February 25th, a public meeting will be held on the City's proposals with respect to second units (also known as basement apartments or in-law suites). Last year, the City undertook a series of public consultations, including one in Malton, to seek feedback from residents on the proposed changes to the City's Official Plan to allow second units. At present, second units are only permitted if they were built before 1995. The upcoming public meeting on February 25th will take place in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 300 City Centre Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to allow the City to present its proposals; to obtain comments and feedback from residents about the proposals; and to answer questions and provide information to residents. If you have questions, comments or concerns about second units in Mississauga, this is your chance to voice them. For more information, visit www.mississauga.ca/portal/residents/housingchoices

For instance, did you know that you can map the crimes that occur in your neighbourhood? Using their innovative software, you can map break and enters, thefts, and other crimes right on your desktop. You can also access many brochures and information packages through the Peel Regional Police website, including tips to make your home and neighbourhood safer, as well as how to protect your personal belongings.
Coffee Parties
In the past, I have hosted town hall meetings that feature discussion on a wide range of topics. I will continue to host these meetings, but I will also be hosting smaller, neighbourhood-focused meetings or 'coffee parties.' I find that meeting with a small group of neighbours in a relaxed setting is often the best way to have an informed and engaging discussion on the issues that matter to residents. If you would like to organize a coffee party, I will bring the muffins! Please feel free to contact me at bonnie.crombie@mississauga.ca or 905-896-5500 and we can organize a meeting soon.
