The road had been lashed by
rain, but the Highways
Agency said there was no bad
weather at the time.
A West Midlands Ambu-

“Unfortunately, despite the
best efforts of ambulance
crews, nothing could be done
to save the two boys and one
woman, and they were con-
firmed dead at the scene.”
The boys were aged four and
10 and the dead woman was 32.
The smash happened on the
northbound carriageway
between junctions 14 and 15 near
Stoke-on-Trent. The motorway
was closed in both directions.
Yesterday police were faced
with the heart-breaking job of
telling next of kin that their
loved ones had been killed.
A Staffordshire Police
spokesman said: “We are
appealing for witnesses.”

MEGA YEAR
FOR SINGER
ÊIT’S hard to believe a year ago Rita Ora was
unknown. In 2012 she scored four Top 10
singles (three of which hit No 1) and a chart-top-
ping album, plus the 22-year-old was a guest judge
at The X Factor auditions. Here Rita looks back on
her mega 12 months.
WOW – what a ride 2012 has been. Having three No 1
singles was overwhelming, then a No 1 album too was
crazy. Getting on the festival circuit was a lot of fun.
When I performed at Wireless in London’s Hyde Park
to 100,000 fans I was on such a high – that was a real
moment, a total rush.
Meeting fans is something I try to do as much as
possible as they’re the ones who put me here.
As I was getting into a cab for the MOBO
Awards in Liverpool a guy shouted at me
that he’d had my logo tattooed on him, so
of course I had to stop and do a picture

Norwich now have the
Premier League fear factor.
The Canaries crashed at
West Brom at the weekend,
bringing an end to their
magnificent 10-game
unbeaten league run.
But the keeper feels the
record has earned Chris
Hughton’s side respect and
means they are no longer
seen as pushovers.

Bunn said: “I think a lot

The 28-year-old has been

even when John is fit.” The Royals find themselves bottom of the
table following seven straight defeats.
Just one team, West Brom in 2005, have
recovered from this position at Christmas
to go on and beat the drop.
The omens look bleak for McDermott’s
men ahead of today’s visit of Swansea.
But McDermott has ordered his play-
ers to recall what they did this time last
season in the hope it gives them the in-
spiration to beat the odds again.
Reading found themselves 20 points adrift
of top spot in the Championship, but some-

promotion to the top flight.
McDermott said: “My view is that if you’re

I’m not sure anyone has done that before.

“It’s a decent statistic. It wasn’t at Christ-
mas, it was before that. We were loads and
loads of points behind West Ham and
Southampton and still managed to win the
league. So it shows what this team can do.
“Sunderland won it too (the Champion-
ship) when they had lost the first five games
a few years ago. West Brom have done it, so
it is doable.”
McDermott should be fearing the sack
but instead remains convinced both he
and his players have what it takes to
escape relegation.
He had to pick his players up off the floor
in the wake of their stoppage-time defeat at
Manchester City on Saturday.
