Gift a pair of shoes, give a stride for excellence!

A journey through Indias hinterland offers a glimpse into the cultural richness, family traditions and bonding that is fast dwindling elsewhere and a way of life that has lived through generations. Children in these communities play in agricultural fields and walk miles to schoolrain or shine. They form the aspirational modern day rural India and they stand on the verge of transformations that define and shape their future. Yet they often lack one thing important for their spirited sprints to the wide-open world a pair of shoes! CLIC Abroad team, a non-profit organization working closely with Nikon, Goal Zero, North Carolina Nature Research Center and the Centre for Sustainable Development visits the remote and rural landscapes regularly and documents many changes in the rural Indian society. Together with our work, we also help the children in every location with something new and helpful from solar torchlights to sports kits. On our next trip, wed like to take a gift for the Indian children in our workshops A pair of shoes and socks. CLIC Abroad engages children from both India and America to develop intellectual skills, encourage positive and competitive growth on a personal level, and foster a spirit of international understanding and entrepreneurship through the medium of digital photography and visual documentation. When CLIC Abroad leaves a community, the children there are left with a greater awareness of their own culture, and of the West. For those children from the remote and rugged landscape, a pair of shoes will go a long way and help them heal the pains from treading the fields everyday in barefoot and help them acquire a new sprint in their strides. It motivates them, brings happiness and acquires a new liking for their surroundings. In March 2013, CLIC Abroad will travel to Pragpur Village in the Kangra Valley in the foothills of the Himalayas. As part of our workshop, we intend to donate a pair of shoes to the village children. Each pair would cost about $12. The shoes will be purchased and distributed there in the Kangra Valley, which will help build economic relationships and reduce the challenges of shipping from the United States.
