MAIDEN ENGLAND 88 CONCERT TO BE RELEASED ON DVD

Now available for the very first time on DVD, this live show was filmed across two sold-out nights at Birmingham N.E.C Arena, UK in November 1988 during the bands Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son World Tour. Disc one contains the concert which has been specially upgraded and extended from the existing 1989 longform VHS release and now includes three previously unreleased encores: Running Free, Run To The Hills and Sanctuary thereby completing the full concert with a total running time of 110 minutes . Maidens own Film Producer and Director Andy Matthews went back to the 1988 edit and painstakingly remastered each shot digitally; colour correcting and grading to give the image the best possible look from that time. As well as the VHS stereo sound track by Martin Birch, the bands producer between 1981 and 1993, the DVD also includes a brand new 5.1 audio surround mix by Maidens current producer Kevin Shirley. The concert was meticulously directed and edited by bass player and founder member Steve Harris, so as to capture the performance from a fans-eye view of the stage, focusing fully on the music, the elaborate stage production and the lighting. Add into the mix an electrifying set list and of course Eddie, and Maiden England now offers a snapshot of a bygone era in which the band, as they continue to do today, devote their all in delivering the ultimate live experience for their fans. Disc two is an extensive bonus disc featuring an exclusive documentary charting Part 3 in the History of Iron Maiden. This 40-minute film comprises recent interviews with the five band members and manager, Rod Smallwood. Picking up the story in the aftermath of the 84/85 World Slavery tour, this interesting and insightful documentary sees the band speak candidly about their memories of an exciting and occasionally turbulent period from which would emerge the albums Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. As the Eighties began to draw to a close, so did another chapter in Maidens compelling history. Other special extras on the bonus disc include Twelve Wasted Years. First released as a longform VHS in 1987 and available for the first time on DVD, this documentary runs for 90 minutes and includes

archive interviews and dynamic live footage from the bands beginnings in the now legendary Ruskin Arms pub, via Londons Marquee club and three World Tours. Five promo videos for the singles from the aforementioned albums are also featured and have been carefully restored and improved upon from the original films using the very latest software with the audio remastered in digital stereo. Manager Rod Smallwood comments Weve been busy upgrading this concert footage for a long time, with our in-house Film Producer and Director Andy Matthews working tirelessly to weave his magic yet again!. The 1989 VHS video has been largely unavailable for many years and we know how eagerly our fans have been awaiting the new version so we wanted to give it the best possible treatment. The current Maiden England World Tour which continues later this year revisits much of the set list and production from the initial 1989 VHS release so it will be interesting to compare just how much has changed in terms of our 2013 live show production, especially with all the advances in modern technology and the improvements weve been able to make to the set. The Maiden England 88 concert soundtrack will also be made available on 2CD album and Limited Edition double vinyl picture disc. The audio had previously only ever been available before on CD as part of EMIs 1994 Sound And Vision Series packaged alongside the VHS, but with two tracks fewer than the video contained. Can I Play With Madness and Hallowed Be Thy Name were not featured as there was no space on the 1CD disc. Now with the three encores also included the double disc offers a total of 5 tracks previously unavailable on CD making this the first full and complete audio recording release of this historic tour. Have A Little Fun is a collection of tunes about the human condition songs about love, happiness, loss, yearning, deception, forgiveness and confusion. Joining vocalist extraordinaire Alex Pangman on much of this project, is the incomparable Bucky Pizzarelli, a guitarist whos worked with everyone from Benny Goodman, to Les Paul, to Stephane Grappelli, Bucky is the real deal. Hes a charming man who with open arms welcomed me to his musical world, and when he starts to strum, you pay attention. Hes like an entire rhythm section. Events over the previous four years had elevated the reclusive Kansas-raised country boy to the very top of the rock n roll pantheon. Heralded as Americas Beatles, The Byrds had scaled the heights in the summer of 1965 with their debut single, Mr. Tambourine Man, and followed it with a string of hits that collectively came to define what was dubbed folk-rock: jingle-jangle electric 12-string guitar, tambourine, lush harmonies and poetic lyrics, often from Genes own pen as the groups principal songwriter, over a steady 4/4 rock beat. With a little help from Bob Dylan, The Byrds gave rock n roll a literary sensibility; it was, as one critic termed it, beat with brains. In his songwriting, Gene had come to embrace the Dylan style of oblique lyric poetry and accrued considerable attention for his songs, much to the chagrin of his band mates. Gene began exploring the nature of spirituality and the human condition in his lyrics, his curiosity piqued by friend Philip OLeno. Philip had his spiritual library and he read all that stuff, philosophical stuff, spirituality, mysticism, states Clarks first wife Carlie. Gene loved all that but he wouldnt read it. He would ask Philip about it all. I never saw Gene read a book. Sometimes I would read what he wrote and have no idea where that was coming from

within him. Adds Philip, Gene would ask me sometimes about what I was reading. Gene was spiritual in his own unique way at that point because he had a real love for humanity and all people. He was inquisitive on a higher level, and things like earth energies, synchronicity, mythology, collective consciousness interested him. I would mention things but we didnt go into detail. Raised a Catholic and schooled by nuns, Gene was not a practicing Catholic; however, despite a lingering resentment, he nonetheless retained a solid Christian grounding. Although left in demo form, Jimmy Christ and Please Mr. Freud are songs that draw on these themes. Carlie recalls that Gene also engaged in astral projecting. He used to wake me up in the middle of the night and say to me that he had been travelling. I was up above the bed looking at us sleeping, hed say. One time he told me he saw himself on a motorcycle riding through Laurel Canyon. He was up above the bike watching himself ride. Mentally he would go places where most people dont go. Sir Adrian Boult was born on 8th April 1889 in Chester and died on 22nd February 1983 in London and hence 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of his death. He was attending concerts first in Liverpool, primarily with Hans Richter, and then in London, whilst a pupil at Westminster School, with Sir Henry Wood, Claude Debussy, Arthur Nikisch and Richard Strauss. He met Elgar for whose music he was to do so much during his life as was another composer he befriended whilst at Christ Church, Oxford, before graduating in 1912, Ralph Vaughan Williams. He spent a year studying in Leipzig where Arthur Nikisch had the greatest influence on him. He gained experience conducting for both the Royal Opera House, where he assisted in the first production there of Wagners Parsifal , and Serge Diaghilevs ballet company. He was appointed conductor of the City of Birmingham Orchestra in 1924 and six years later the BBC made him director of music where he established the BBC Symphony Orchestra and became its chief conductor.

During these years he introduced works by Bartk, Stravinsky and the Second Viennese School composers Schnberg, Webern and Berg including his opera Wozzeck. Forced to leave the BBC when he reached their retirement age, he became chief conductor of the LPO retiring in 1957. He became a champion of British music, giving numerous performances of Bliss, Britten, Delius, Tippett, Walton and Holst, whose Planets he had premiered, and the aforementioned Elgar and Vaughan Williams. This set brings together all the recordings he made of the latter starting in 1940 to the early 1950s. There was a pause until 1967 when he started to commit this sets stereo recordings to disc ending in 1975. He continued to give concerts and record for a further three years until retiring just before reaching the age of 90. CD 13 includes audio footage of Sir Adrian in rehearsal.

Montserrat Caball was one of the most stimulating and refined singers in opera, concert and recital in the second half of the 20th century. This CD, together with the 5-CD set The Sound of Montserrat Caball, is being released to mark the divas 80th birthday.
