Each year, there are two Academy Awards given out for screenplays.

One is for the best original screenplay, and the other is for the best adapted screenplay. Learning to write your own screenplay takes a good amount of research, practice and repetition. Watching movies and studying the most successful screenplays are some things that you can do to help yourself learn. The following films have each won 6 Oscars. Star Wars , 1977s original science fiction masterpiece by George Lucas, was distinguished with 6 Oscar wins. The first film released in the saga and the fourth installment chronologically, the film introduced audiences to Luke Skywalker and a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance, who are fighting to bring down the evil Galactic Empire. The film was produced with a budget of $11 million and was released on May 25, 1977. It earned $460 million in the United States and $314 million overseas to surpass Jaws as the nominal highest-grossing film, a distinction it would hold until the massive success of E.T. the Extra Terrestrial in 1982. The film has been re-released on several occasions, sometimes with significant changes. Leading up to the initial release of the film, Lucas was certain that Steven Spielbergs Close Encounters of the Third Kind would out-perform Star Wars; Spielberg disagreed, and Lucas proposed that they trade 2.5% profit on each others films as a wager. Spielberg took the trade and still receives 2.5% of the profits from Star Wars . Within three weeks of the films release, 20 th Century Foxs stock price doubled to a record high. The film was selected in 1989 by the Library of Congress to be preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry, making it one of the first 25 films selected for that honor. Among the films from 2002, Chicago, a musical film adapted from the satirical stage musical of the same name, won 6 Academy Awards. The film explores themes of celebrity, scandal and corruption in Jazz Age Chicago; the film was the first musical to win the Best Picture category since Oliver! in 1969. The original 1975 Broadway musical was not well received by audiences at the time; however a revival in 1996 was much more successful. The film was to have been the next project for legendary choreographer and director Bob Fosse, who worked on the original 1975 Broadway production. Though he died before the film was made, his distinctive choreography style is evident through the whole production. Other films that won 6 Oscars include Forrest Gump, a tale about a developmentally delayed man who lives through major moments in the 20th century; as well, The Godfather, Part IIwhich expanded upon the first film and offered up the origin story of Don Vito Corleone. The Godfather, Part II is noteworthy in that it won the Academy Award for Best Music, though its predecessor was disqualified in the same category for its use of a theme that from the 1958 comedy Fortunella, and the sequel featured the same love theme. An American in Paris and A Place in the Sun, both from 1951 also won 6 Oscars, as did 2009s The Hurt Locker . Mrs. Miniver , released in 1942 has the distinction of the earliest film in the group of 6-category Oscar winners, followed by All About Eve from 1950, and A Man for All Seasons in 1966. Among the films, Star Wars and A Place in the Sun are the only two whose wins did not include the category of Best Picture. Several of the films were also selected for inclusion in the United States National Film Registry, including All About Eve, An American in Paris, Forrest Gump, The Godfather, Part II, Star Wars, and Mrs. Miniver .
