FADE IN: INTERROGATION ROOM - TIME UNKNOWN FOCUS asA WOMAN sits alone in the middle of an interrogation room. MARIE ANDREWS, 50s, corporate in appearance, stern with every breath. She flaunts her fingers on the cold, metal table for just a moment beforeA MAN ENTERS. DERRICK FRANCIS, 40s, bold in every way, his voice is strong, well-mannered, but also hides a sense of fear deep within. He sits at the empty chair across from Andrews. Silence as he locks eyes with her, thenFRANCIS (out loud for the recording) Detective Derrick Francis, interrogating suspect Marie Andrews, Director of Human Operations at Angelo Corp Biomedical. Case number 653. Francis pushes aGREEN FOLDER to mid-table. Andrews is timid, trapped in a corner with no escape. FRANCIS (CONTD) Ms. Andrews. Yes. ANDREWS

FRANCIS I would like to start off by thanking you for your cooperation in these recent...events. If you had not come forward I doubt we would be where we are now.

ANDREWS Of course. FRANCIS Could you start by explaining to us what you do--Im sorry, "did", for Angelo Corp Biomedical? ANDREWS Yes. As you previously stated, I was Director of Human Operations. It was my job to prepare the subjects for undergoing certain procedures. FRANCIS What types of procedures? ANDREWS A number of different ones. Surgeries. Transplants. These were not your typical operations, each patient had to go through thorough testing prior to any treatment. FRANCIS So what Angelo Corp was doing was dangerous? ANDREWS Some would say so, but it was my job to assure that no one was hurt. FRANCIS But people were hurt, Ms. Andrews, are you aware of that? Pause. Yes. ANDREWS

Francis gathers notes from the green folder and flips through them as he talksFRANCIS Just to clarify for the recording, you were aware of these experiments taking place, is that right? ANDREWS Of course. At times I was even directly involved with the procedure.

Pause. Francis is surprised by her response. FRANCIS Directly involved? Yes. ANDREWS

FRANCIS Then why keep going? Did it not feel wrong knowing the risks-ANDREWS There are always consequences in science, Detective. I assume there are in your line of work? FRANCIS I wouldnt consider human lives as consequences, Ms. Andrews. ANDREWS Neither would I. FRANCIS (slams his fists to the table) Then why put those people through them?! Pause. Andrews lets the mood settle, thenANDREWS Might I remind you that we never forced anyone to do anything. We gave them the option...then they came to us. FRANCIS (Sarcastically) And how was that? Word of mouth? Uh, personal recommendation? I dont recall seeing any commercials involving human experimentation lately. ANDREWS We approached candidates that were thought to be best suited for the procedure. FRANCIS Such as? What types of people?

ANDREWS Mostly those who were sick. People that were once thought to be plagued with incurable diseases. Cancer. Diabetes. Organ failure. Those that had little to lose...and everything to gain. FRANCIS I guess the more vulnerable the better. Is that right? Andrews gazes down like a sad puppy. Francis shakes his head in pity, jots down some notes. ThenANDREWS Do you know what its like to have someone close to you die, Mr. Francis? FRANCIS Excuse me? ANDREWS Die. Someone close to you. Francis collects his thoughts, this hits close to home. FRANCIS Yes I do. Its...awful. ANDREWS If you had the power to change it...Would you? Pause. Yes. FRANCIS

ANDREWS Thats all we wanted to do. Change things. I know there were mistakes, but at least understand that. Pause. Francis thinks on it, but insteadFRANCIS Do you have any regrets, Ms. Andrews? ANDREWS Yes. Just one.

FRANCIS Really? What might that be? ANDREWS That we couldnt save them all... Her face is stern, no sense of doubt in her mind. CUT TO: INT. HOSPITAL - TIME UNKNOWN BOOM! HOSPITAL DOORS fly open! Followed byA WOUNDED MAN IN A CART. His face is bruised, BLOOD streams down his face. SUPERIMPOSE: 4 WEEKS EARLIER A DOCTOR, 50s, in a typical WHITE COAT, joins the cartDOCTOR What happened?! A NURSE, 30s, the front of her scrubs plagued with a STAIN OF BLOOD, answersNURSE He was dropped off outside. DOCTOR Like this?! NURSE Yep. Right on the curb! DOCTOR Ah, Christ! Whats the outside damage? NURSE Suffered a major blow to the back of the head. Internal bleeding likely. Bruises around the neck-DOCTOR Any broken bones?

NURSE Not that we can tell. Any name? DOCTOR

NURSE He didnt have an I.D., wallet, nothing. Just this. The nurse hands her aFOLDED PHOTOGRAPH. INSERT: A picture of a SMALL BOY and WOMAN. The doctor sighs. DOCTOR Alright, lets get him into an open room. Just thenTHE MAN WAKES UP! Hes frightened, screams in pain! DOCTOR (CONTD) Sir?! Sir, you need to calm down! The man rips off the I.V. STRAPS, tries to break free of the cart. MAN LET ME GO! GET OFF OF ME! DOCTOR I need some restraints over here! THREE MALE NURSES come to help. They each hold down the body asA NURSE prepares a NEEDLE for injection. Shes quick and sticks the man in the neck. He SCREAMS as the LIQUID injects into his body!

Seconds pass and the drug takes effect. His eyes grow tired, his strength turns to limp and all movement fades. Sounds become faint as the medical staff proceeds to escort him into the operating room. THE MANS FACE. His eyes flicker, he tries to mutter off a sentence but his strength is gone. FADE TO BLACK: SUPERIMPOSE TITLE: RECOLLECTION INT. HOSPITAL - JAMES ROOM - CONTD INSERT: Two eyes flutter open, the pupils dilate. The man from before, James WRIGHT, mid 30s, well built and brilliant young scientist that at this moment is as clueless as a new born. The HEART MONITOR BEEPS beside his hospital bed. Every sound is like a nail on a chalk board. The LIGHTS above his BED are bright to his eyes. His body adjusts to the atmosphere like an alien to a new planet. James notices a PIECE OF PAPER on the table beside him. He opens to a LETTERJAMES (reads the letter out loud) Dear Mr. Wright, we are aware of the horrible accident that has befallen you. In light of the event we are granting you injury leave until full recovery. Our greatest condolences to you, and to a speedy recovery. To his left is a SMALL MIRROR.

He looks at himself. Moves to touch his face as if he doesn't believe it's him. A stranger to his own self. He touches the BANDAGES wrapped around his head. Ouch. Then BRUISES on his face. The silence is broken as THE DOCTOR enters, the same woman that pushed alongside the cart the night prior. DOCTOR There we are! Up already. James covers his ears, her voice much too loud for him. She walks to his bedside, looks over his paperwork and vitalsDOCTOR (CONTD) Well, everything looks good, Mr. Wright. James nods in confusion. She sets down the CLIPBOARD, spots the LETTER sitting on his lapDOCTOR (CONTD) Were you able to talk to that woman? Who? JAMES

DOCTOR She dropped off that letter. She said she knew you. JAMES Um, no I must have missed her... She shrugs it off. DOCTOR Alright, let me take a quick look at you. She removes her PEN LIGHT-

DOCTOR (CONTD) Follow the light for me, please. JAMES Where am I? DOCTOR St. Francis Medical Hospital. James is confused. She sets her PEN LIGHT back into her pocket. DOCTOR (CONTD) Youre a very lucky man. From what I can tell theres no permanent damage. And besides the bruises on your head, you seem to be in excellent health. JAMES What happened? DOCTOR Someone dropped you off at the front of the hospital...Were not sure exactly what happened besides the fact that you took a pretty good beating. Now more confused than ever, a blank slate. DOCTOR (CONTD) Your family is waiting in the lobby. Ill let them know youre awake. She turns to exit the room. JAMES (whispering to himself) Family? James looks up to catch her before she leavesDoctor? Yes? Pause. ThenJAMES Who...Am I?

JAMES (CONTD) DOCTOR

The Doctor's smile disappears from her face. INT. HOSPITAL - MORNING FAMILY MEMBERS wait in patience for news of loved ones. A WOMAN AND CHILD sit side by side amongst others. Liz WRIGHT, mid 30s, athletic and beautiful, her heart skips a beat every time a white coat passes by. She sits alongside Matthew WRIGHT, 8, small for his age and doesnt fully understand the situation as he plays with his PORTABLE GAME DEVICE. A NURSE walks into the roomLiz sits up straightThe nurse reads off her clipboardNURSE Mrs. Callahan? Liz sinks back into her seat. LIZ (to herself) I hate this hospital. She glances to Matthew beside her, rubs his hair as he plays his game. DOCTOR (O.S.) Mrs. Wright? Liz is quick to her feet, desperate of any newsLIZ Yes. That's me. DOCTOR Your husband is fine. Liz's shoulders drop as if a thousand pounds was released from them.

LIZ Thank God. Can we see him? Pause. DOCTOR Thats what I need to talk to you about... LIZ What do you mean? DOCTOR Mrs. Wright, your husband took a major hit to his head. Were doing all we can, but... LIZ But? You just said he was fine. Pause. DOCTOR Mrs. Wright your husband doesnt remember anything that happened to him before the incident. Liz shakes her head in disbelief. LIZ What? Like he doesnt remember where he left his car keys? His phone number? DOCTOR He doesnt remember anything. Not even his name. Matthew jumps from his chairMATTHEW What happened, Mommy? Liz regains composure for her son, turns to himLIZ Nothing, baby. Just keep playing. Matthew retreats to his CHAIR. Pause. Liz wipes her eyes, she has to stay strongLIZ (CONT'D)

Are you telling me that my husband...wont remember me? Or his son? The Doctor shakes her headDOCTOR Im so sorry. Liz feels her knees buckle beneath her. She looks to Matthew, takes a deep breath, thenLIZ When do you think it will come back? DOCTOR Its hard to say. Things like this depend solely on the patient. It could be temporary...it might not be. LIZ Oh my God... Liz steps back, runs her hands down her face. LIZ (CONT'D) We thought he was just late from work...He just... Pause. She shakes her head in disbelief. ThenLIZ (CONTD) (whispering) Do you think this has anything to do with the cancer? The Doctor sighsDOCTOR We can't see how, but we cant rule that out as a possibility. Liz messages her forehead. DOCTOR (CONTD) (reads from her clipboard) The records show hes been battling a tumor for quite some time now. Liz nodsLIZ

We thought it was regressing... The Doctor sets her clipboard beneath her arm. DOCTOR I sent the scans to the lab, it says here that Doctor Campbell is his current physician, is that correct? Yes. LIZ

DOCTOR He should call you within the next few days with the results. Liz nods, too much all at once. LIZ What do we do? DOCTOR Make him comfortable. Patients that are reminded of a happy past tend to gain those memories back. LIZ (to herself) Okay. Okay. (now to the DOCTOR) When can we see him? DOCTOR Whenever youre ready. Weve already told him that you were here. LIZ What am I supposed to say to him? DOCTOR Whether he remembers you or not, you're still his family...That's all he needs right now. Liz nods. Terrified. DOCTOR (CONTD) Im sorry. The Doctor puts on her best doctor smile then disappears down the hallway.

Liz looks back to MatthewHe maneuvers his game like a steering wheel with the car sounds to boot. She tries to smile...but cant. LIZ (to Matthew) Lets go buddy. MATTHEW To see daddy!? LIZ Yep, come on. Matthew runs to her side asThey hold hands downs down the hallway. INT. HOSPITAL - MINUTES LATER Liz looks at each name posted on the doors in search of her husbands. ThenJames WRIGHT. She gets on her knees, fixes Matthew's hair asLIZ Listen, Sweetie. Daddy has a booboo on his head. Okay... MATTHEW

LIZ And because of it hes going to be acting a little funny...Hes going to be a bit dizzy and confused. MATTHEW Like when I first wake up in the morning? Exactly. LIZ

She rubs his shoulders, then kisses him on the forehead. Ready? LIZ (CONTD)

MATTHEW LIZ

Liz gets to her feet, takes a deep breathe. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - CONTD James lies in BED. He runs his thumb over the emblem on the corner of the letter. ANGELO CORP. BIOMEDICAL. ThenTHE DOOR OPENS. Matthew walks in first, followed by Liz. Daddy! MATTHEW

Matthew runs to the BED, nearly jumps onto James. James smiles, but doesnt remember the young man in his arms. JAMES Hey...buddy. Liz isn't as excited. Scared. She fights back tears at the sight of her husband. James meets eyes with her. He smiles. She smiles back, wipes a tear from her eye before it forms. He puts out his hand for her to grab. Liz does, then a small laugh. She holds his hand so tight her hand turns white. MATTHEW (pointing to the bandage) Does it hurt? No. JAMES MATTHEW

Mommy said you were going to be weird. JAMES Yeah, a little bit. Liz smiles. MATTHEW Will you still be able to play soccer with me? Pause. An alien. A father. JAMES Of course. Yay! MATTHEW

Matthew hugs his father once more. Liz pats Matthew on the shoulderLIZ Hey sweetie, would you mind if you gave us a couple minutes to talk? Ill give you a dollar for the vending machine. MATTHEW Can I get candy?! LIZ Anything you want. Yes! MATTHEW

Liz removes a few loose dollar billsLIZ There you go. His face lights up as he skips out, the door closes behind him. Which leavesJames and Liz. Nothing is said. What can be? JAMES Hi, stranger. LIZ

Hi back. She sits on the bed by his feet. LIZ (CONTD) How did you... Pause. James removes something from under his pillow, hands it to LizINSERT: A PHOTOGRAPH of the three of them. Each happy as can be. Liz smiles. A great memory. She can't take it anymore. SHE FALLS ONTO James' CHEST. James is lost, unsure of what to doJAMES Its okay. Im okay... Liz releases her grasp and looks at himNothing? LIZ

James shakes his headJAMES I dont know... She touches her hand to his cheek. LIZ Its okay. She grabs his hand again and squeezes tight. LIZ (CONTD) Well be okay... Then, a FAMILIAR VOICE comes from the doorFRANCIS (O.S.) Knock, knock. Both turn toDERRICK Francis. He dresses in a long, black, TRENCH COAT and BLACK SLACKS. Well dressed, well mannered. LIZ

(surprised) Uh, hi. She tries to clear up her face, rubs around her eyes to fix her MASCARA as she stands to her feet. FRANCIS Im sorry to disturb you. Im Detective Francis with the NYPD, I just had a few questions regarding what may have happened last night. LIZ Uh, yeah, sure. Francis nods, steps into the roomFRANCIS I know this is difficult, and I hate being the one to do it, but I want to find who did this just as much as you do. LIZ Thank you. Liz sits back onto the bedFRANCIS Mr. Wright, do you remember anything that happened last night? Anything at all? James looks at both faces. No. JAMES

Francis nods his head. He already knew this. FRANCIS Mrs. Wright, do you know of your husband having any...enemies? LIZ What do you mean? FRANCIS Do you know anyone that would want to hurt your husband in any way? Liz shakes her head in disbelief that such a question would be asked.

LIZ No. Hes a scientist for God sakes. Fracis gives her a couple seconds to calm down, thenLIZ (CONTD) The doctors said they thought he had been mugged. Just some stupid accident. FRANCIS And that could very well be, but we cant rule out that it was something more. LIZ (confused) Im sorry, 'something more'? Francis shrugs. LIZ (CONTD) Im sorry, its just... Pause. She puts a hand to her face. FRANCIS I understand. Francis steps further into the room, locks eyes with JamesFRANCIS Do you remember what you did for a living, Mr. Wright? Liz answers before he canLIZ I told you, hes a scientist. FRANCIS Forgive me. What I meant was where? Again, Liz answers for himLIZ Angelo Corp Biomedical. Francis appears to have known this. FRANCIS Could there have been anyone that would be upset with your work?

JAMES Um, I have no idea. I dont even remember what I would have been doing there... Francis shakes his head, frustrated, as if he wants a different response. JAMES (CONTD) Detective, with all due respect, I dont remember anything as of this morning when I woke up. Not even my family... He squeezes Liz's hand. FRANCIS (now to Liz) What about you then, Mrs. Wright? Did you know of anything that James was involved in? Liz shakes her headLIZ He isnt allowed to discuss his work outside the office. FRANCIS Kind of makes for a troubled relationship doesnt it? LIZ Im sorry, but I dont see how that has anything to do with what happened to my husband. FRANCIS Understood. Francis reaches into his pocket, pulls out a BUSINESS CARD. FRANCIS (CONTD) If there is anything that comes up. (now looking at James) Or remember. (back at Liz) Please feel free to give me a call. LIZ

Thanks. FRANCIS Thank you for your time, Mrs. Wright...Mr. Wright. Neither answer back. INT. HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM - CONTD Meanwhile, Matthew inserts a dollar into the vending machine. IT SPITS IT BACK OUT. Matthew tries again...Same reaction. ThenANDREWS (O.S.) Would you like some help young man? Matthew turns toAndrews as she sits in a chair just a few feet away. MATTHEW It wont go in. Andrews laughs at his innocence, reaches into her purse. ANDREWS Let me see here... She pulls out her wallet, and with it aCRISP DOLLAR BILL. ANDREWS (CONTD) How about I trade you? Matthew is hesitant at first, a bit shy with strangersMATTHEW My mommy said I shouldn't talk to strangers. ANDREWS What a smart mother you have. But I assure you that I mean no harm. Just a swap. Your dollar for mine. Matthew is hesitant, he extends his hand, the exchange is made. He turns back to the machine for one last try-

Matthew turns with a chocolate covered smile on his faceMATTHEW Thank you! ANDREWS Youre quite welcome, young man. Might I ask where your mother is? Matthew loses all timidness with his chocolate bar in handMATTHEW Shes with daddy in the room. ANDREWS Oh, no. Is everything alright? MATTHEW Yeah, Mommy says his brain is all fuzzy. Like he just woke up from a nap. ANDREWS Ah, well that doesnt sound too bad. Matthew shakes his head in agreement. Then from down the hallMatthew? LIZ (O.S.)

Liz turns the cornerLIZ (CONTD) There you are. MATTHEW I got chocolate! LIZ I see that, baby, but you know there was a vending machine by the room? MATTHEW It didnt have the one I wanted.

Andrews laughsANDREWS Your boy is very bright. Liz turns to AndrewsLIZ Thank you. He gets it from his dad. ANDREWS Im sure he does... Liz doesnt know how to take the comment. A sense of eeriness in Andrews' voice. LIZ Thanks for watching him. ANDREWS Youre very welcome. Andrews watches as the two disappear around the cornerHer smile disappears, she removes aCELL PHONE from her purse. Dials a number, thenANDREWS (into the phone) Everything is as it should be. She ends the call, then stands to her feet and exits. EXT. SUBURBS - EVENING A MINI-VAN comes to a halt in a driveway. Matthew jumps from the back seat and sprints to the backyard. SUPERIMPOSE: ONE WEEK LATER LIZ Honey, dont run youre going to hurt yourself! Matthew doesnt hear as he closes the gate behind him.

Liz smiles, shakes her head. James emerges from the passenger side, the BANDAGES still wrapped around his head. The healing process has taken on well. JAMES Hes just a ball of energy, isnt he. LIZ You have no idea. She collects a few BAGS OF GROCERIES from the back seat asJames stands to admire the front of his house. It's high class, and in a good neighborhood. Whatever he did before the accident must have paid well. Ready? LIZ (CONT'D)

Pause. James tries to remember this...He cant. Yeah. JAMES

INT. WRIGHT RESIDENCE - CONTD The front door opens, Liz walks in followed by James. LIZ Ill be right back, Im just gonna drop these off. Liz disappears to the kitchen asJames is hesitant to walk in, to him this isn't home. He begins down the hallway, admires the assortment ofFAMILY PHOTOS throughout. Each a forgotten memory as if seeing a ghost. He picks up a PICTURE FRAMEINSERT: Liz and Matthew at one of Matthew's soccer games. Then admires anotherINSERT: A picture of Liz and Matthew at a science fair. Another25

INSERT: Liz and Matthew at a lake, a wet dog with a stick in its mouth stands between them. A DOG'S BARK echoes from outside. James turns to the sound, walks intoINT. WRIGHT RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM - CONTD High class furniture, a fire place, and open windows to the backyard cap off a warm atmosphere. ANOTHER BARK asMatthew plays with a GOLDEN RETRIEVER in the backyard. James smiles as he walks for a better lookMatthew runs! Falls! Then tackled with slobber and kisses from the dog. LIZ (O.S.) What does it feel like? James turns to her, startled evenJAMES It's hard to explain... She joins him at the window. JAMES (CONT'D) Its like a wall. It feels like something is blocking off everything I ever knew. Liz tries to smile, anything to comfort him. Then slides open the doorLIZ Come on, Matthew, lets get inside so we can get cleaned up for dinner. Matthew listens to his mother, gets to his feetMATTHEW Come on, Mollie! MOLLIE, the dog, follows right behind him. ButSTOPS BEFORE THE DOOR. LIZ

Come on, Mollie! Lets get inside! Mollie doesnt listen, instead looks right at James. James looks at Mollie asShe begins to growl as if James a complete stranger. She shows some teethLIZ (CONTD) Mollie! Thats Daddy. Come on! Liz pats her leg, Mollie ignores her. James gets to his kneeJAMES Come here, Mollie. Mollie's personality changes in a split second with the sound of his voice. Her tail wags as she enters the house, licks James' face. JAMES (CONTD) Thats a good girl. James stands to his feet, shrugs his shoulders. Liz forces a smile, confused at Mollie's bizarre behavior. INT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - DINNING ROOM - NIGHT The three sit at the DINNING ROOM TABLEJames eats like a mad man asBoth Liz and Matthew watch in confusion. James finishes his plate and sets down his fork. Then takes a big swig of water. LIZ Does it taste okay? James nods, looks to see theyve barely finished half a plate. JAMES Yeah, its great. LIZ Its your favorite...

JAMES Yeah, I could tell. Matthew holds back a smile as he plays with his foodLIZ Matthew, don't play with your food. MATTHEW But I don't like it... LIZ You're not leaving until those veggies are gone. MATTHEW Ugh...Dad? James is clueless, he doesn't know what to say butJAMES Listen to your mother... Liz smiles at him. Well said. James watches as his sonPushes the GREEN BEANS around his plate like a hockey rink. James grabs a GREEN BEAN, tosses it in the air andCATCHES IT IN HIS MOUTH. Cool! MATTHEW

Matthew mimics, tosses up a green bean andCATCHES IT! Just barely. LIZ Come on, boys, no playing with food. JAMES You try it. Me? LIZ

JAMES Yeah. Take a break. Liz smiles, even surprised by the comment.

MATTHEW Yeah come on, Mom, take a break! Liz laughs. LIZ Okay, I'll try. But just once and no laughing at me. James and Matthew exchange a glance asLiz takes a green bean in hand. She tosses it! IT HITS HER FACE AND FALLS TO THE FLOOR! EVERYONE LAUGHS! MOLLIE is on instant cleanup patrol. LIZ (CONT'D) Hey I said no laughing! Liz can't help it and laughs now too. Matthew tries again! Nails it! JAMES Nice catch! LIZ And you know what the best part is? You just ate two green beans and didn't even know it. MATTHEW I guess they don't taste that bad... Liz smiles at that. JAMES Um, Liz? You got a little something... James wipes his face to mimic Lizs. Liz wipes at her face, a small DAP OF OIL on her cheek. She doesn't reach it. LIZ Did I get it?

JAMES Let me seeJames gets to his feet with his napkin. But instead of dabbing her messy cheekHE DABS HER OTHER ONE WITH GREEN BEAN JUICE! LIZ Oh, you did not just do that! She gets to her feet, chases James around the table asMatthew laughs with enjoyment. EXT. WRIGHT'S RESIDENCE - MEANWHILE A BLACK SUV is parked just outside the house. INT. BLACK SUV - CONT'D THE SOUND OF LAUGHTER echoes from inside the car. A DARK FIGURE listens as James, Liz and Matthew shout from inside the house. He turns off the radio. EXT. WRIGHT'S RESIDENCE - CONT'D THE BLACK SUV drives away in the darkness. INT. POLICE STATION - NIGHT Francis sits alone at his desk. Everyone else has gone home. He looks through past reports, his eyes glued to the plethora of words as he taps his pen on the desk. ThenFLASHBACK: Its raining. Inside a car as BRIGHT LIGHTS pour through the windshield, the sound of SCREECHING BRAKES asFrancis snaps back toDerrick!? RAMIREZ (O.S.)

All moving like ants into the hive. Francis walks forward towards the elevators, a line forming to get past security. Francis notices everyone scanning their ID BADGES on the SCANNER, passing by a SECURITY GUARD before reaching the elevator doors. Its his turn, the SECURITY GUARD signals him to step forward and scan his badge. SECURITY GUARD Your badge, please. FRANCIS How about this one. Francis flips his DETECTIVE BADGE. A threat in his voice. The SECURITY GUARD guard smiles, giggles even. SECURITY GUARD That badge wont do you any good here. FRANCIS I was hoping to talk to someone about an employee that was brutally beaten just weeks ago. SECURITY GUARD Listen, man. I dont give a shit who you are, or what you think you have access to. LOCATION UNKNOWN - TIME UNKNOWN The image is blurry. POV of BRIGHT LIGHTS seem to penetrate all around. HANDS move forward, were underwater. GLASS surrounds us. The sounds of PEOPLE VIOCES come into focus. Panic. Twisting and turning in the WATER. FLASHING LIGHTS and SOUNDS come from all directions. The sound of a RINGING PHONE is heard in the distance. Then-INT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - BEDROOM - MORNING James shoots up from his BED. SWEAT covers the entirety of his face. He breathes heavily. It was just a bad dream. He wipes his face as the phone on the NIGHTSTAND continues to RING. He gains composure, then answers the phone-Hello? JAMES

He still breathes heavily. The sound from the other end of the phone is dead. Hello?? JAMES (CONTD)

Nothing. A CLICK is heard from the other end as the call ends. He looks at the PNONE. INSERT: A button says REDIAL. James presses it and puts the PHONE to his ear. The sound of an automated voice comes from the phone. AUTOMATED VOICE Im sorry, the number you have dialed has been disconnected. James hangs up. Confused. He sets the PHONE back on the NIGHTSTAND and lies back in BED. At his side he notices a NOTE written on a piece of STICKY PAPER on the PILLOW next to him. He peels it off and reads it. INSERT: The note reads, WENT TO DROP Matthew OFF AT SCHOOL. LOVE YOU. He sets the STICKY NOYE back on the PILLOW. He takes a deep breathe and exhales. Exhausted from the nightmare.

FRANCIS (CONT'D) Everything okay? JAMES Uh, yeah, sorry. FRANCIS Can I come in? Pause. JAMES Yeah, yeah, sure. FRANCIS Mind losing the poker? James sets the FIRE POKER against the wall, opening the door to let Francis in. JAMES Mollie, SHH! Mollie stops instantly like any good dog would. Francis steps inside, keeping his COAT on as if the meeting won't last long. In his hand is a FOLDER. JAMES Sorry, shes a little rough around strangers. FRANCIS Thats just being a good guard dog. He hand a Francis the CUP OF COFFEE. FRANCIS Thank you. Can we sit? JAMES Yeah, sure. The two sit on separate COUCHES, Francis doesn't take his eyes off of James. James stares back, clueless. Waiting for an initiation by Francis. JAMES So...What is it you wanted to talk to me about? James? FRANCIS

James waits for more, but Francis doesn't continue. Yes... JAMES

Francis sets his CUP OF COFFEE on the COFFEE TABLE between them.

JAMES What are you talking about? Pause. FRANCIS You were my mole. My key to getting inside Angelo Corp. James is beyond confused. JAMES What? Why? FRANCIS You came to me, three months ago. You said you needed my help. You said that what Angelo Corp was doing was dangerous. Then a month ago you stop...Nothing at all. It was as if you disappeared completely. The I get a pitch that you show up a a hospital half beaten to hell. Francis opens his FOLDER, browsing through it then sliding a SET OF DOCUMENTS to James. Go on. FRANCIS

He does, taking them in hand and looking at them. INSERT: A hand written letter, his hand writing. INSERT: Another letter, again, penned in writing similar to his. At the bottom of the letter it's signed, "JW". FRANCIS You see. You were helping me, James. Pause. James doesn't know what to say... JAMES I don't remember any of this. Francis doesn't appreciate the response. Bullshit. FRANCIS

JAMES Excuse me? FRANCIS You're lying. JAMES What, you think I just changed my mind? FRANCIS I wouldn't put it past you. Fuck you. JAMES

Pause. Francis smiles. FRANCIS Okay, James. Let's pretend you are telling the truth. Let's pretend you don't remember anything. Isn't it weird that just months after you come to me your mind is cleaned like a plate. James thinks on it. Could it be?

JAMES I don't want them. FRANCIS Then burn them. Probably for the best anyway. James doesn't know what to say, lost for words, lost for memories. INT. WRIGHTS'S RESIDENCE - FRONT ENTRANCE - CONT'D James sees Francis out the door. FRANCIS Listen, James, I know this is a little much. But if you remember anything, or something comes up. James nods. No intention of doing any such thing. Just as Francis turns away-JAMES Detective? Francis turns back towards him.

JAMES (CONT'D) Why do you hate them so much? FRANCIS Let's just say they're doing things they have no right to be doing. James nods, trying to understand but can't. JAMES What makes you think they are? Pause. Francis is stunned just for a second, doubt fills his face as if to show he doesn't have a clue. FRANCIS Thanks for the coffee. Francis turns, leaving James at the door. INT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM - DAY James lies back down on the COUCH, he tosses a TENNIS BALL high in the air, just missing the ceiling as it falls back and lands in his hand. He does this a few times before-MOLLIE makes a SOBBING MOAN from the floor beside him. JAMES What do you want? MOLLIE continues her pitiful stare at the TENNIS BALL in his hands. JAMES (CONTD) What? This? James lifts the TENNIS BALL from his lap. MOLLIEs head instantly alert now as she prepares to play, her tail in full wag. JAMES (CONT) Alright, go get it! James tosses the TENNIS BALL down the hallway, MOLLIE scurries after it. James sighs of boredom, trapped in a house thats hardly his own. He glances over at the DOCUMENTS that remain untouched on the COFFEE TABLE. Hes hesitant, nervous even of what he might find inside. What if Francis was telling the truth?

He gives in to curiosity, sitting up straight and snatching the DOCUMENTS from the COFFEE TABLE. He opens it, inside lies a handful of LETTERS. He notices again the SIGNATURE INITIAL at the bottom of each. INT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - OFFICE - CONTD James opens a drawer from his DESK, removing a handful of PAPERS. He takes a seat in the CHAIR, setting the DOCUMENTS in front of him before removing a single LETTER. He compares one from Francis to one from his desk, the WRITING STYLEs are identical. They both are his own. He sets them down, then continues to pursue through the others. Just the same things. LETTERS. He puts his hands to his head.. Thinking of the possibilities this could attain. He lets his hands drop, clumsily knocking the PICTURE FRAME of Matthew and Liz from the desk and it CRASHES to the floor. Great... JAMES

James gets onto his knees and reaches for it below the DESK. He grabs it, but just as hes about to stand, he notices a CRACK in the bottom of his DESK, with the REMITTENCE of something stuck in between. He sets the PICTURE FRAME back on the DESK. Then gets on his hands and knees to further investigate. With his hands he pulls down on the WOOD PANELING. It SNAPS out of place, falling to the ground is a GREEN FOLDER. James sits back in his CHAIR, GREEN FOLDER in hand. He sets it in front of him, opening to reveal the DOCUMENTS inside. These are different than Francis, look more like hard data. James skims through them, each with ANGELO CORP typed on the header. He then comes to a PHOTO. Then others behind it. Just then the silence is interrupted by the sound of the FRONT DOOR OPENING, then CLOSING. James stops breathing altogether, waiting for a sign of friend or foe. LIZ (O.S.) James? Are you here? James reaLizes the DOCUMENTS spread out in front of him. He quickly gathers them up and looks to cram them into a DRAWER, but each one is filled to the brim.

James looks frantically for a hiding spot. JAMES Yep, in here! Lizs FOOTSTEPS grow closer. He remembers the secret compartment underneath his DESK, first putting in the folder then replacing the WOODEN PANEL. Just as he looks up, Liz enters the office. LIZ What are you doing in here? JAMES Just looking through some stuff, maybe it would bring back some memories. And? Pause. Nothing. JAMES LIZ

Liz sighs, then approaches him. James looks to the floor below the DESK, one of the PHOTOGRAPHS didn't make it into the folder. He thinks fast, using his foot to push it further beneath the DESK. Liz sits on his lap just in time to have it pushed out of sight. LIZ Dont worry. Itll come back in good time. Hope so. JAMES

LIZ But until then...I need a favor? James is taken back. JAMES

LIZ Are you sure? JAMES Yeah, of course. LIZ Great. I programed the GPS so it should take you right there. Great. JAMES

Liz smiles, then kisses his cheek. LIZ Thank you! She gets up from his lap, a wide grin on James face. As soon as shes gone, James reaches for the PHOTOGRAPH beneath his desk. He pulls it in front of him-INSERT: The quality is blurry as if taken in motion. The image appears to be taken of a door just about to close, in the other room one can make out what appears to be LARGE TEST TUBE-LIKE STRUCTURES. James reaches for the GREEN FOLDER. He puts the PHOTOGRAPH inside with the others, then crams it back underneath the DESK in the secret compartment. EXT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - DAY James backs the MINI-VAN out of the driveway, turning in the street then driving out of frame. From behind him, two houses down from the Wrights Residence a BLACK SUV begins to follow.

INT. CAR - DAY James drives inside his car, the GPS VOICE guiding him through the streets of suburbia. In the rear-view mirror, James sees the BLACK SUV. He doesnt think much of it...not yet. GPS VOICE Turn left. James turns left. He continues to drive forward, then stops at a STOP LIGHT. GPS VOICE Continue straight, then make a right. JAMES Yeah, yeah. So bossy. James looks in the REAR-VIEW MIRROR, the BLACK SUV at a stop directly behind him. James tries to see into the WINDSHIELD, but the TINT is too dark. The LIGHT turns GREEN, James takes a quick left turn instead of going straight. GPS VOICE Recalculating route. The BLACK SUV follows. GPS VOICE Recalculating route. Please continue straight, then take right on Pine Meadows. James looks as he passes through the intersection of PINE MEADOWS. GPS VOICE Recalculating route. Recalculating route. Shut up! JAMES

James turns off the GPS, looking in the REAR-VIEW MIRROR once again, the BLACK SUV still on his tail.

James forgets to watch the road, looking forward just in time to stop at a CAR in front of him, inches from hitting it. The BLACK SUV does the same, nearly hitting James but instead switches lanes and passes by. James tries to get a glimpse of inside the glass, but again its too dark. James takes a breathe to calm himself. Then-GPS VOICE Recalculating... James rolls his eyes. EXT. SUBURBIA - CONTD James makes a U-Turn to get back on course. EXT. SUBURBIA - CONTD James comes to a halt in the parking lot of a school. Matthews sees him and instantly comes running. INT. CAR - CONTD Matthew opens the front door of the car and jumps in. Dad!? MATTHEWS

JAMES Hey, buddy! MATTHEW Wheres Mom? JAMES Shes at home, shes making something special for dinner. So Im your driver today. Matthew smiles ear to ear. Cool. James smiles back. JAMES Yeah, cool. MATTHEW

James puts it in drive, then moves forward. INT. CAR - CONTD Matthew continues to tell James about practice. MATTHEW -so then I came from the side and stole it, then I kicked it from the other side of the field and scored the goal. JAMES Wow, the whole other side? MATTHEW Yeah, it was really far! James keeps his eyes in the rear-view mirror for any sign of the car that had followed him minutes before. They approach the driveway, the lights in the house are off, presenting a darkened cave-like interior. James reaLizes this too. Worried as he pulls into the driveway. MATTHEW (CONTD) Why are the lights off? James puts the car into park. JAMES Im not sure. They get out of the car and intoEXT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - FRONT YARD - CONTD Matthew is already running towards the front door. JAMES (CONTD) Matthew, hang on! Matthew stops and looks back to him. INT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM - CONTD POV from inside the house. Someone from inside peeks out through the curtains at James at he walks towards the door. EXT. James lifts Matthew into his arms as he approaches the door. Matthew sees the tension in his fathers eyes. MATTHEW Whats wrong, Dad? James keeps his cool. JAMES Nothing, I just wanted to surprise Mom is all. Matthew nods, still uneasy... They reach the door, James turns and-FADE TO BLACK: FLASH CUT TO: A SOCCER BALL. Its kicked, fast and away, bringing the scene to-EXT. PARK - DAY Matthew runs hard after the SOCCER BALL. At this age, its more like chickens with their heads cut off. EXT. PARK - CONTD James, Liz, and other parents CHEER from the sidelines as their kids battle it out. JAMES Come on, Matthew! Matthew looks over at them, smiles, waves, then moves back into action. Liz holds her husband, connected now on a whole new level as if never felt before. EXT. PARK - CONTD Matthew has the SOCCER BALL at his feet. He kicks it passed one KID, then another. Its just him and the GOALIE now. He takes a step back, then moves forward delivering a powerful kick. The SOCCER BALL moves just out of reach of the GOALIES HANDS, sinking into the back of the NET. James and Liz both jump with excitement! James whistles as loud as he can. EXT. PARK - CONTD Matthew is swamped by his TEAMMATES as they all give highfives. As they clear, Matthew gives a THUMBS-UP to his parents in the crowd. EXT. PARK - CONTD Both Liz and James return the gesture. Proud. Clapping and cheering for their son. Just as James is about to sit down, he notices someone on the opposite side of the field. The MAN FROM THE SUPERMARKET. Looking directly at him. James doesnt know what to do. Hesitant. In shock. He whispers into Lizs ear. JAMES Ill be right back. Liz reacts. Okay? LIZ

James walks away, his gaze aimed directly across the field. The MAN reaLizes hes been spotted and is on the move as well. James presses hard through the crowd of PARENTS, a keen eye on the MAN on the other side of the field. James sees the man disappear behind the COMMUNITY BATHROOMS. He sprints after him, not taking a chance to lose him again. EXT. PARK - PARKING LOT - CONTD James turns the corner, the PARKING LOT. He stands on his tip-toes, looking over the sea of CARS for any sign of movement. Then-James see a BLACK SUV from his peripheral vision. He dodges out of the way, just in time, rolling onto the gravel. The BLACK SUV pushes forward, almost to safety when-70

Another CAR backs into the lane, causing the BLACK SUV to swerve, nearly hitting a FAMILY before RIDDING UP on another VEHICLE. The BLACK SUV flips to its side, landing on the ROOF with a CRASH and SKIDDING FORWARD. CUT TO: INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - TIME UNKNOWN Back to the previous scene wit Francis and ANDREWS. ANDREWS Are you afraid of dying, Detective? FRANCIS No. I dont suppose you are either? ANDREWS The way we enter this world and leave are of no difference. After all, at the end of a game the pawn and king are still put in to the same box, are they not? FRANCIS If you say so. ANDREWS Just like you and I, Detective. FRANCIS You and I are not the same. ANDREWS Really? But are we much different? You try to create a better world, as do I. FRANCIS By playing with human life? ANDREWS Life? Life is but a glimpse of light nestled tightly between two eternities. Id hardly call it significant. We make the best with what we are given, thats all we can do. FRANCIS Dont get all philosophical with me. Do you actually believe that what you were doing was the right thing?

ANDREWS is reluctant to answer...afraid to. She stares Francis in the eye. She wants to say, he can feel it. Just as she is about to give her response-FRANCIS (CONTD) Whats the matter? His tone is powerful, driven with a sense of passion held deep within him. CUT TO: EXT. PARK - PARKING LOT - CONTD Insert: James eyes open. BLOOD drips from a cut above his brow. He gets to his feet, shaken by the dive into the asphalt. He looks around. Panic. Parents guide their children out of the way. He notices the BLACK SUV flipped on its back thirty yards away. James sprints towards it.

He approaches the BLACK SUV, yells to an EYE-WITNESS-JAMES Call 911!! James reaches the CAR DOOR, he tries the HANDLE but the CAR DOOR is jammed shut from the crash. James pulls with all his strength, finally getting the CAR DOOR open. He sees the MAN that had been watching him, unconscious, BLEEDING. He manages to get the SEATBELT unbuckled, causing the MAN to fall to the ground. James gets a grip underneath the MANS SHOULDERS and PULLS. Gritting his teeth as he pulls the MAN to safety. SMASH CUT TO: INT. HOSPITAL - DAY James walks down the hallway, trying not to act suspicious. He approaches the NURSING STATION where a NURSE sits. JAMES Excuse me. Hi. She looks up to him, not at all enthusiastic. JAMES (CONTD) I was hoping you could point me to the room of a new patient. NURSE We get dozens of patients an hour, sir. JAMES He rolled his car? The NURSE looks through a checklist, then-NURSE Are you family? JAMES Um, Im...his brother. The NURSE nods, not believing him but-CUT TO: INT. HOSPITAL - CONTD

James walks down a busy hallway. Then approaches a room, entering into-INT. HOSPITAL - CONTD James walks into a room, closing the door behind him. The MAN in the BED is just as he looked when he was pulled out of the car, added the BROKEN ARM CAST and ELEVATED LEG. He pulls a CHAIR next to the BED, then sits, looking into the MAN that had been following him around all week. A few seconds pass then the MAN opens his eyes. He scoots up in his BED, startled, his HEART MONITOR ACCELERATES. He reaches for the PANIC BUTTON on the side of his leg, but James is quick to stop him. JAMES I dont think so. I just wanna talk. MAN I wont talk to you. JAMES Is that so? James presses the PANIC BUTTON into the MANS WOUND on his leg. He YELPS with pain. Stop it! MAN

JAMES You wanna talk? The MAN breathes heavily, scared, panicked. JAMES (CONTD) Lets start with why youve been parked outside my house. Why youve been following me. Pause. The man looks around as if to see if someone is listeningMAN They told me to... JAMES Whos they? Everyone keeps saying they. The MAN shakes his head. Nothing.

MAN James...Its me. James shakes his head. Nothing. Again another stranger that knows his name. MAN (CONTD) Dont you remember-PSHH! A BULLET strikes through the GLASS WINDOW, hitting the MAN in the CHEST. The HEART MONITOR ACCELERATES. James gets to the floor. He presses the PANIC BUTTON, then waits...All is silent. Then-PSHH! Another BULLET hits the wall next to him. Whoever it is wants him dead too. The DOOR to the room opens, a NURSE walks in. No, wait! JAMES

PSHH! The NURSE is hit in the SHOULDER and goes down to the floor. HELP! CUT TO: INT. HOSPITAL - CONTD Francis is checking in at the NURSING STATION just down the hallway, he turns to see the NURSE on the ground by the room. He sprints toward her. INT. HOSPITAL - CONTD James remains on the floor. He peeks over the BED and spots a HOODED MAN running away on the adjacent rooftop. James!? FRANCIS (O.S.) JAMES

James turns towards the door. Here! JAMES

Francis, GUN drawn, turns the corner and enters the room. JAMES Hes on the other rooftop! Francis lowers his GUN, checks the NURSES pulse. Shes still breathing. FRANCIS Are there no doctor in this hospital!? James stands as two DOCTORS tend to the NURSE. He grabs his PHONE, dialing, then-FRANCIS This is Detective Francis, I need a squad at Central Hospital. Now! Francis disappears down the hall. James catches his breathe, then-MAN (struggling for words)

JjJames. James turns to face him. BLOOD seeping from his CHEST. JAMES DOCTOR! I need a DOCTOR! Another DOCTOR enters the room and tends to him. James looks down to his hand. The MAN is trying to give him something...A KEY CARD. James takes it, pocketing it before someone sees. DOCTOR Sir we need you let us do our jobs. James nods, walking backwards out of the room as DOCTORS and NURSES tend to him. EXT. CITY STREETS - MOMENTS LATER Francis exits into the buzzing streets. PEOPLE coming and going, oblivious of the accident that took places just feet above them. Francis makes his way across the street. He looks up to the adjacent roof top for any sign. Shit. FRANCIS

Just then he looks to the BUILDINGS ENTRANCE. A HOODED MAN exits, he locks eyes with Francis. Then-The HOODED MAN starts running in the opposite direction. STOP! FRANCIS (CONTD)

Francis begins his pursuit. Pushing past the hordes of PEOPLE crowding the city streets like bees in a hive. MOVE! FRANCIS (CONTD)

EXT. CITY STREETS - CONTD The HOODED MAN looks behind, he sees Francis gaining precious ground. He turns into a CHINESE RESTAURANT. INT. CHINESE RESTAURANT - CONTD

The HOODED MAN runs blindly into the restaurant, running into a WAITER holding a TRAY OF SOUP which CRASHES to the ground. EXT. CITY STREETS - CONTD Francis is close behind his culprit, he yells into his CELL PHONE-FRANCIS Im in pursuit of the target on foot, requesting back-up two blocks north of central hospital! Francis entering into-INT. CHINESE RESTAURANT. Francis sees the HOODED MAN running towards the back of the small restaurant. He lifts his GUN as if to shoot. The HOODED MAN doesnt stop, breaking through the DOOR and into the KITCHEN. Francis lowers his GUN and sprints after him, barely squeezing past the poor WAITER just getting off the ground. INT. CHINESE RESTAURANT - KITCHEN - CONTD The HOODED MAN breaks through the KITCHEN DOORS. All the COOKS look up in bewilderment. He takes no time to stop, pushing forward as the COOKS yell at him in CHINESE. Just as the HOODED MAN passes out of frame, its Francis that smashes through the doors. FRANCIS Get down! Get down! He doesnt have the shot, just in time to see the HOODED MAN turns the corner. The COOKS definitely pissed off as Francis continues forward. EXT. ALLEY WAY - CONTD Francis exits through the BACK DOOR and into the the ALLEY. He looks left. Nothing. Then right. Bingo. The HOODED MAN nears the street. Francis hoists his GUN and charges full sprint. EXT. CITY STREETS - CONTD

The HOODED MAN sprints up the street. Francis is only feet behind him now. FRANCIS (as he sprints) Get out of the way! Francis is only feet away, then the man breaks from the sidewalk and into the street. The HOODED MAN skillfully dodges the first lane of oncoming traffic, then the second, the third he is nipped, riding up on the HOOD of a TAXI. He looks back, Francis is already looking to cross. Francis is more cautious as he makes his way across the busy street. Losing ground as he makes it to the other side. EXT. CITY STREETS - CONTD Francis is at full sprint, its finally taking a toll on him, but the HOODED MAN is in plain sight as the two begin their accent up a BRIDGE. As Francis runs, hes hit with-FLASHBACK: A bridge, like this one, FLASHING COP LIGHTS ahead. Its raining, dark. A CAR up ahead is flipped into the SIDE RAILS of the BRIDGE. Francis snaps back to reality, pulls his GUN from his side, aiming up at the HOODED MAN. FRANCIS I SAID FREEZE! The HOODED MAN still running just as FLASHING POLICE LIGHTS enter in from the opposite side of the bridge. He stops, huffing and puffing. Francis approaches him, slowing into a jog, his GUN still aimed high. Ready for anything. The HOODED MAN turns to face him, his hand on his head. Francis stops fifteen feet away, securing his aim as the COP CARS near them. FRANCIS Its over! The HOOD MAN smiles.

HOODED MAN No. Its not. The HOODED MAN begins to walk backwards towards the LEDGE. FRANCIS Dont move! The HOODED MAN still grins, more of a CRAZED GRIN than anything. A man that knows hes lost. He steps onto the LEDGE. FRANCIS (CONTD) God damn it I said dont move! HOODED MAN It doesnt matter...Im dead anyway. He falls backwards. Francis lowers his GUN and sprints to the edge as-EXT. James reacts to Francis as he storms into the room. Francis sits opposite of him. FRANCIS Is there something you wanna tell me, Wright? James doesnt know what to say. Hmm? FRANCIS

JAMES What do you want me to say!? That I knew who that man was!? That I knew why I was being shot at!? I dont know, God damn-it! Francis takes a well needed breathe of air. JAMES (CONTD) That man at the hospital. He was Angelo Corp too. FRANCIS What? We pulled his record, hes a janitor at a middle school. JAMES Yeah? The howd he get this? James pulls the KEY CARD out of his pocket, then slides it over to Francis. INSERT: The KEY CARD has the signature ANGELO CORP ANGEL on its front. A picture of the man from the hospital. Francis slides it back to James. JAMES (CONTD) It looks like youre the one that needs me, Detective. FRANCIS What are you going to do? JAMES I dont know. But if I was tied up in this, I want to know why. And if it takes going into that building...then thats what Im going to do.

Just then, ROBERTS opens the door to the room, peeking his head in. ROBERTS Can I have a word, Detective? Francis nods to him, then looks to James. FRANCIS Ill be right back. Francis exits to-INT. POLICE STATION - CONTD Francis closes the door behind him. FRANCIS What is it, Captain? ROBERTS What are you doing? FRANCIS Hes in eye witness, I wasROBERTS You let a man jump off a bridge in the middle of the city! FRANCIS What did you want me to do, shoot him? ROBERTS I want you to handle the situation! Francis can only look on...His hope of getting to the bottom of this are diminishing fast. EXT. WRIGHTS RESIDENCE - EVENING James steps out of a POLICE CAR, driving away after he is clear. James looks up at his home. The pain hes caused it. Liz and Matthew come out of the front door to greet him. Matthew jumps into his arms, James holds him tight. Liz wraps her arms around her boys. INT. SMALL ROOM - FLASHBACK James is seated at a TABLE in a small room. James is hesitant to sign the DOCUMENT. He takes a few seconds, then signs his name at the bottom. He looks at the paper...What has he done. A hand opposite him takes the DOCUMENT. A VOICE is heard, but cannot make out who it is. VOICE Youre doing a good thing, James. For your familys sake. ThenHARD CUT TO: SERIES OF FLASHBACK: Memories. Lots of them. His wedding day. The day Matthew was born. Matthew and Liz laughing in the car. Then-HARD CUT TO: FLASHBACK: FIRST PERSON POV. UNDER WATER. Drowning. A soft LIGHT shines from above. ThenHARD CUT TO: FLASHBACK: Memories of James playing with Matthew in the yard. The family together on trips, happy, together, loved. Francis snaps out of it. Turns to face Ramirez. RAMIREZ (CONTD) You okay? I heard about what happened with the captain. FRANCIS Yeah, Im fine...What you got? Ramirez sighs, then hands him a REPORT. RAMIREZ Fisherman pulls up a dead body in a fishing net just off the coast.

HARBOR - RAINING - DAY Francis and Ramirez arrive to the crime scene. A few COP CARS have already arrived. INT. COP CAR - HARBOR - CONTD Francis sits in the passenger side, Ramirez driving. He looks into the rain at the RED and BLUE LIGHTS spinning ahead of them, bringing him to-FLASHBACK: Its night, a similar rain pours onto the windshield. TAVELLA Not yet. The techies are on it, according to them the bodys been floating around out there for weeks. Its amazing the fish hadnt finished him off. Francis looks out to the FISHERMAN being interviewed on the dock. FRANCIS That the guy? TAVELLA Thats him. Francis nods.

FRANCIS Good seeing you, Frank. TAVELLA Yeah, you too... Francis steps out into the rain. Tavella watches him go, worried about an an old friend. EXT. HARBOR - CONTD Francis taps the OFFICER speaking to the FISHERMAN, he acknowledges and lets them be. The FISHERMAN is bulky with a long strangely beard. A TRACTOR HAT and OVERALLS complete the fisherman frame. FISHERMAN I already told em everything I know. FRANCIS I know, I know. Just a couple more questions. Francis turns over a nearby BUCKET and takes a seat. FRANCIS (CONTD) So, where did you say you found the body? FISHERMAN Just off Gravesend Bay. Pulling up my load, then this fella decides to drop in. No clothes, white as snow. Hell I thought it was shark at first til I saw the...The face. The FISHERMAN looks timidly behind Francis. Francis looks behind him to see the BODY BAG being loaded in to a POLICE VAN for transport to the morgue. FRANCIS Anything else stand out? FISHERMAN No, nothin. I mean how fucked up does it get being dropped off in freezing water like that. He laughs to himself. FRANCIS

FRANCIS Ill talk to the docs back at the morgue, see what they have to say. Ramirez nods. EXT. HARBOR - CONTD The SQUAD CAR drives off, the rain continuing its downpour. INT. MORGUE - LATER THAT DAY Francis walks alongside a MORTICIAN, male, 50s, smart and dedicated to his job. MORTICIAN Its been a long time, Detective. Its nice to see you again. FRANCIS

Likewise. Before they enter into the next room, the MORTICIAN turns. MORTICIAN I heard what happened to your family...Im so sorry. Francis nods. More than tired of the pity. They enter into-INT. MORGUE - CONTD A single BODY lies on a CART in the middle of the room. Its covered in a TARP. Francis watches as the MORTICIAN uncovers the DEAD BODY. The private areas including lower torso and face remain covered. Whew. FRANCIS

Francis approaches the DEAD BODY, male, pale as snow. FRANCIS (CONTD) The skin supposed to be that way? MORTICIAN If he was in the water long enough, sure. FRANCIS And the bruises? Francis pokes the skin with his PEN, the skin BRUISED and SWOLLEN to the point of BREAK. MORTICIAN Not bruises. Frostbite. Francis cringes at the thought. FRANCIS So what do you think, Doc? Was this guy just going for a swim? MORTICIAN Thats the tricky part. Because the body was in the freezing water so long, its nearly impossible to tell. Frankly, its amazing theres this much left of him.

Francis nods as he walks around the body, looking for any sign that could lead to a homicide. FRANCIS How about an ID? MORTICIAN Impossible to get any prints, the lab is running dental but so far they have nothing. You can blame the water, but frankly, its as if he never existed. Francis nods, interested. The harder to understand the better. FRANCIS You think he jumped? MORTICIAN Maybe. But look at this. He lifts the COVER over the MANS TORSO where he has already made an INCISION. MORTICIAN (CONTD) As I was doing some checks, I came across this. Francis covers his mouth from the smell of dried flesh. Then releases to sayFRANCIS What is it? MORTICIAN A tumor. From the looks of it, it doesnt look like he would have lasted much longer anyways. Francis nods. FRANCIS Maybe whoever did this was doing him a favor then. MORTICIAN What makes you think anyone did it? Francis shrugs. FRANCIS Just a guess.

MORTICIAN I guess thats why youre the detective. Francis smiles at the sarcasm. He approaches the MANS HEAD. FRANCIS Do you mind? MORTICIAN Be my guest. Francis removes the COVER from the BODYS FACE, revealing-JAMES. Well, not alive, anyway. The face a pale, pale white and slightly disfigured. But the MAN lying on the table, is James WRIGHT. Francis steps back, shocked, completely taken back. MORTICIAN (CONTD) Something wrong, Detective. FRANCIS How long did you say this body was down there? MORTICIAN I dont know, at least three weeks. Francis feels as though he was hit by a truck. Blind sided. He quickly leaves the room without saying another word. Leaving the MORTICIAN with a blank stare of confusion. EXT. CITY STREETS - DAY A TAXI CAB stops along the curb. Stepping out is James. He turns to the DRIVER to pay up, then looks at the BUILDING in front of him. ANGELO CORP. BIOMEDICAL. INT. ANGELO CORP BIOMEDICAL - LOBBY James enters through the REVOLVING DOORS, entering the vast LOBBY of Angelo Corp Biomedical. The lobby, unlike before, is nearly empty. The only people in the LOBBY are the RECEPTIONIST and GUARDS. James makes his way towards the elevators as he approaches security.

The GUARD, a large man, stands as he nears him. James removes the KEY CARD given to him earlier from the man in the hospital. He slides the KEY CARD through the slot. It checks out, giving him the GREEN LIGHT to pass on through. GUARD Early as always, Mr. Wright. James nods his head. Uneasy. Scared. He moves along, continuing towards the elevators. INT. ANGELO CORP - ELEVATORS - CONTD James steps inside the elevator, as the doors close-FLASHBACK: James is inside the same elevator, only weeks before. He presses the button 24. Back in the elevator, James presses the button for the 24th floor, immediately followed by-VOICE Retinal scan required. James is nervous. He steps in front of the EYE SCANNER. He clenches his fists as the scan is processed, followed by-VOICE Good morning, Mr. Wright. James releases his shoulders and steps back into the middle of the elevator as it ascends. INT. SQUAD CAR - SIMULTANEOUSLY Francis drives fast through traffic, eager to get back to the station. As he drives he makes a call-FRANCIS Ramirez, its me. INT. POLICE STATION - SIMULTANEOUSLY Ramirez sits at her DESK as she talks. RAMIREZ Derrick, where are you? The captain is flipping out looking for you. She lifts her head over the cubicle to see ROBERTS scavenging around Francis DESK.

INT. SQUAD CAR - CONTD Francis continues to drive. FRANCIS Im on my way to the station now. But I need you to get a car to go pick up the body from the morgue. INT. POLICE STATION - CONTD Ramirez writes down on her NOTEPAD. RAMIREZ Got it. Ill call you back in a few. She hangs up the phone. INT. ANGELO CORP. BIOMEDICAL - CONTD James emerges from the elevator, stepping into an empty room. LAB EQUIPMENT fills the TABLES. ThenFLASHBACK: The room comes to life. SCIENTISTS move all around like bees in a hive. Each of them doing a different task. On the TABLES are SOPHISTICATED LIQUID CAPSULES, each with a different ORGAN growing inside. James comes back to reality, looking in both directions before continuing on. INT. ANGELO CORP. BIOMEDICAL - CONTD LIGHTS turn on inside a large room. James steps inside, its the room from the photograph in his desk. LARGE LIQUID CHAMBERS fill the room, perhaps a dozen or so. Then, from behind him comesANDREWS (O.S.) Welcome back, James. James turns to meet her. JAMES Who are you? ANDREWS Still a bit fuzzy, are we? James tries to think...But nothing. ANDREWS (CONTD)

POLICE STATION - CONTD Ramirez turns her CHAIR around and speaks softly in the phone. RAMIREZ Thats the thing. Its gone. INT. SQUAD CAR - CONTD Francis is confused. FRANCIS Gone? ANDREWS You were so determined to find an answer, but the cancer was over powering. ANDREWS walks towards him. ANDREWS (CONTD) You didnt want your family to live without a husband, or a father. So, you did the extreme, James...And now youre living proof that a man can cheat death. CUT TO: INT. SMALL ROOM - FLASHBACK James signs the same DOCUMENT as before. The first being; FLASHBACK: POV underwater, the LIGHT above grows darker, and darker, sinking into forever. ThenCUT TO: FLASHBACK: Multiple images of Liz and Matthew. Then-CUT TO: FLASHBACK: Sinking deeper and deeper until the LIGHT above disappears completely. Then-BRIGHT LIGHT from all directions, bringing James back to-INT. ANGELO CORP BIOMEDICAL - CONTD James is brought back to reality. ANDREWS smiles her mischievous smile. ANDREWS Do you remember now? CUT TO: INT. ANGELO CORP - LAB - FLASHBACK ANDREWS operates at one of the MACHINES. ANDREWS (O.S.) Is was right in this very room. Other SCIENTISTS are there as well. ANDREWS flips a switch, which then-Releases one of the LARGE CAPSULES, WATER emerges from it followed by a BODY, naked, pale, weak. It falls to the floor. INT. ANGELO CORP - LAB - FLASHBACK A group of SCIENTISTS push James BODY in a CART, including ANDREWS. ANDREWS (O.S.) As we were transporting you to recovery, you started to wake up... He does, panicking, blinded by the BRIGHT LIGHTS and noises like an infant. James falls off the CART and to the floor. ANDREWS (O.S.) We tried to calm you down, but you were ecstatic. James reacts to every sense he has, swinging in all directions as the SCIENTISTS try to control him. He tries to stand but his limbs are far too weak... ANDREWS (O.S.) It was still too early to sedate you, youre body was simply too weak. So we had to do what was necessary... A SCIENTIST, the man from the hospital that had been following James so closely, hits him over the head with a FIRE EXTINGUISHER. James blacks out. INT. CAR - FLASHBACK Andrews sits in the BACK SEAT of the car along with another SCIENTIST. ANDREWS (O.S.) We took you to the only place we could think of. Someplace that the

situation would be treated as an accident... They pull up to the curb, ANDREWS looks out into the rain and sees the SIGN for-ST. Francis MEDICAL HOSPITAL. As TWO SCIENTISTS begin to pull James into the rain, ANDREWS slips a PHOTOGRAPH of his family into his POCKET. INT. ANGELO CORP BIOMEDICAL - LAB - CONTD Back to present time again. ANDREWS You see, James. You wanted to do this. James looks as though he is sinking. His mind struggling to grasp the truth. ANDREWS (CONTD) And now, your family has a father. And they will continue to have one...Unless this is brought about outside these walls. James feels the threat and looks up to meet her eyes. ANDREWS (CONTD) Dont you understand? OFFICER 2 (CONTD) You have a call on line one at your desk. Francis is confused. He makes his way across the office to his DESK, Ramirez right behind him. He sits, then picks up the PHONE. Hello? FRANCIS

ANDREWS (O.S.) Detective? FRANCIS Whos this? INT. ANGELO CORP - CONTD ANDREWS is right where she left off with James. ANDREWS This is Ms. Andrews from Angelo Corp Biomedical...I was hoping we could talk? INT. POLICE STATION - CONTD Francis is surprised by the call. He looks down to the GREEN FOLDER sitting on his DESK. FRANCIS I would like that. I would like that very much. When? Francis thinks he has her. He thinks this is it...

FRANCIS (CONT'D) You remember him? Hmm? ANDREWS takes the photos in hand, it's the PHOTOS of the dead body caught in the fishing net...James' body. ANDREWS cycles through them, then sets them down on the table. No. ANDREWS

FRANCIS Really? That's strange. James Wright, one of your employees. A scientist, a husband, and father. A fisherman found this body at the bottom of the freezing coast just outside the city. A little sloppy if you ask me, even for you guys...Dumping a body in the water like that. ANDREWS doesn't break her gaze. Trapped in the corner. FRANCIS (CONT'D) You want to hear something strange about it though? James Wright, the man in these photos...He isn't dead... ANDREWS still remains strong. FRANCIS (CONTD) But you already knew this didn't you? Pause. ANDREWS doesn't answer. FRANCIS (CONT'D) What were you doing over there, Ms. Andrews? No response. But instead of resisting, he raises his hand to the glass window panels behind him for someone to bring in some water. Seconds pass and the door opens. A YOUNG MAN delvers two GLASSES of WATER and sets a GLASS in front of each of them. The YOUNG MAN leaves, the room is silent once again. ANDREWS takes a sip of water. Better? FRANCIS

ANDREWS nods her head slowly. Francis looks back down to the PHOTOGRAPHS in front of him-ANDREWS Bravo, Detective. It seems you have it all figured. FRANCIS I do. No one can deny the evidence. But there is still just one thing. ANDREWS Whats that? FRANCIS Why did you do it? Why? ANDREWS

FRANCIS (fed up with her psychobabble) Yes, why? Why?! Why?! Was it because of some urge you couldnt control, or did you simply want to see what it was like playing God?

Then takes a sip of water from his GLASS and sets it back down. FRANCIS What youre talking about is surpassing God himself? Am I following you? ANDREWS Nothings perfect, Mr. Francis. Not even God. You and I know this better than most. Pause. Francis thinks on this, thenFRANCIS You know what I think? I think that maybe youre the one that needs help, Ms. Andrews. Francis laughs again and takes another sip of water. ANDREWS shows no emotion. Motionless like a statue. ANDREWS You don't agree with me? FRANCIS About what? That youve lost grip on reality? ANDREWS No. That you wouldnt change a single thing in your perfect life. Francis smile begins to fade. He scratches at an itch in his throat. ANDREWS (CONTD) What has it been now? Two years? His face turns red. He loosens his TIE and COLLAR to help breathe. ANDREWS (CONTD) I cant imagine the pain you must have felt. Losing everything that mattered to you. Stop it. FRANCIS

ANDREWS Wait a minute, now...Perhaps that's the reason you dislike what we do here. You feel it's unfair that there was nothing that could be done to save your family. FRANCIS I said shut up! ANDREWS Or perhaps its guilt? Why was your life spared and your familys not? I bet you ask yourself that question everyday, dont you, Detective? Francis feels his limbs begin to shake. He feels the oxygen loosening from his lungs. He glances at the GLASS half full of water in front of him. Poison. Then back to Ms. ANDREWS. ANDREWS gives a sigh of disappointed in Francis. She stands to her feet, retrieving the GREEN FOLDER and collecting all the PHOTOGRAPHS as well. Francis nearly falls off his CHAIR trying to catch his breath. ANDREWS (CONTD) Its a shame. It didn't have to end this way. She kneels to his side and looks him dead in the eye. ANDREWS (CONTD) But if you think for a second that I would give up everything Ive created simply because you feel morally hurt, then it is you that needs help.

Francis eyes tremble at this woman, this higher power that stands before him. ANDREWS (CONTD) Good bye, Mr. Francis. She makes her way passed Francis and towards the door. Francis falls off his chair. He lifts his hand to ANDREWS. FRANCIS (choking for words) Who...are you? ANDREWS turns to face him. ANDREWS Were angels, Mr. Francis. Angels here to fix Gods little mistakes. With that she exits the room, leaving the near crippled Francis on the floor. INT. HALLWAY - CONTD ANDREWS looks to a group of MEN standing outside the door. ANDREWS Get him out of here. The MEN enter the room behind her. ANDREWS continues down the hallway, her heels ECHOING off the walls as she goes. On the ceiling above the wall holds metal framing and the words ANGELO CORP BIOMEDICAL. WE CARE. FADE TO BLACK: THE END AFTER CREDITS: INT. HOSPITAL - TIME UNKNOWN CRASH! A CART is rushed through a hospital hallway. A DOCTOR, 40s, tired as Hell but powered with perseverance, pushes alongside the CART, the person in the CART is unseen at this time.
