WESTTOWN Chester County Democratic Committee members sought to pursue the theme of continuing the momentum Wednesday evening at the 2013 nomination convention. The meeting, held at Stetson Middle School, sought nominations for six positions, though only the position of judge for the Court of Common Pleas was contested. Nominated at the convention were Tom Purl, Anthony Verwey and Julia Malloy-Good. After a vote was taken, Purl pulled out of the race. Purl ran on the Democratic ticket in 2011. I look forward to working with all of you and collecting signatures get us on the petition and get us both elected in November, Verwey said. Verwey is an attorney at Unruh Turner Burke and Frees of West Chester which he joined in 2006 and became a partner of in 2010. Verwey has practiced law in southeastern Pennsylvania for more than 20 years and focused on zoning law, land use, school law and attorney discipline/legal ethics. He is a graduate of the Widener University School of Law and Penn State University. Malloy-Good currently serves as a special master in family court. She has spent her 30-year career in the law helping others resolve their conflicts through advocacy, negotiation, litigation, mediation, arbitration and adjudication. She is a graduate of The John Marshall Law School and a longtime Chester County resident. The Chester County Bar Association voted Malloy-Good qualified to be a judge. This is the highest ranking offered. I am so honored to receive the endorsement of the Chester County Democratic Party, Malloy-Good said, I appreciate the chance to move forward, together, in my campaign. Furthermore, I look forward to the opportunity to serve the residents of Chester County as a fair and neutral judge. Speakers during the evening focused on organizing as a party and uniting to carry a strong presence at the polls come November.

Its time that this party has the respect that it deserves in the county, said Howard Jones. We stand for helping other people. We dont stand for our own selfish motives or making other people richer. Jones was nominated by the committee members for the position of Chester County coroner. Other nominations were: Tisha Brown for the Chester County clerk of courts, Nina Haslip for Chester County treasurer, Carmen Boyd for Chester County controller, and Joseph Waters Jr. for Pennsylvania Superior Court.
