Peace Lutheran Church

MARCH 2013
MARCH SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS March will be a busy month for Peace Lutheran Sunday School! Well be learning all about helping others and giving thanks in our Ten Men Healed rotation on Sundays, March 3rd and 10th. Then we will put into action what we have learned on Sunday, March 17th as we go out into the community bringing muffins to those who enjoy a visit from us. If you know of someone we could put on our list, please let us know. On Sunday, March 24th, well have a special session in our Sunday School to hear the Palm Sunday/Easter story. The students will be handing out palm leaves and leading our Palm Sunday parade at the beginning of our church service. There is talk of presenting a short Palm Sunday Skit (around 5 minutes) with music from Jesus Christ Superstar. This would involve our Confirmation students and 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. Tim Ray would be leading us and practices would be on Sundays, March 3rd, 10th, and 24th at 10:00 am. There are two solo spots (Caiaphas and Jesus) with a chorus of singers being the crowd Hosanna, Heysanna, Sanna, Sanna, Ho! As soon as we get all the pieces put together, well be calling you and making announcements. Give us a yell if you can help!! Enjoy Easter Sunday with your family and friends no Sunday School that day! Aprils rotation lesson is The Sower which will lead us into May when we plant flowers, clean the park, and celebrate spring! Stewardship of the Good News

Blessed be the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting, amen. As I lay here typing this I have to say the last two weeks have given me a new perspective on life: physically, mentally, and spiritually; and through it all I have gained a new sense of gratitude. On February 15th I underwent a surgery on my left ankle. The doctor screwed in a titanium plate, and several braided titanium wires along with some new ligaments in order to stabilize and hold together my ankle and the large bones of my lower leg. I was told going into it that recovery would be painful and long, I would need to keep my leg elevated, and that I would be non-weight bearing for 4-6 weeks. Being honest, I didnt truly understand what that all meant. Ive had sick days at home, in which I remember saying I didnt get off the couch all day, but now being stuck I have learned that I certainly got up plenty! I live quite an active life, between being the best dad I know how to be to Chloe, Henry, and Isaac, as well as good partner and husband to Jennifer in my home life, and being an active member and leader of our faith community here at Peace, I am accustomed to burning the candle at both ends. Although I pushed through the pain of the original injury that brought me to this, in order to heal correctly to prevent longterm issues, and quite frankly just the pain of the surgical recovery I cant just push through now, and have had to slow down, really to a complete stop. Other than the restroom Im only allowed upright to move from bed to the couch in my living room, and since having my foot down hurts as much as it does I do both as infrequently as possible. Although this is taken quite the toll on me physically, mentally it has been just as interesting. Doing things for, and taking care of others is not just what I do vocationally, in genuinely is a large part of my identity. This has been a struggle to grasp, as not only can I not really do things for others, I am really even incapable of taking care of myself. This is not all doom and gloom. In fact, having to rely on others (primarily my beautiful bride) has reminded me just how strong important my relationships are, and that they arent held together by what I do, but by who we are together. Finally, this experience has continued to shape my faith life. I have found that personally during times of both great stress as well as abundance of time my prayer life tends to make great strides, the last two weeks are no exception. I have been praying for healing and comfort for myself, ease and patience for my family, and wisdom and skill for my doctor, but I have also been praying for all of you. I have a list of all of our members, new and old, weekly attendees' and those whom struggle to attend, and I have been spending a good amount of time praying through that list. Its amazing the acknowledgement on my part that even though Im not able to care for you the way I would like, to know that God is still taking care of each and every one of you, and putting into your path people who God is working through to accomplish just that. Its a blessing to me. I want to finish off this months newsletter article with a note of gratitude. The outpouring of support from you has been amazing. I know that having your pastor laid up is inconvenient and challenging, but I havent heard that sentiment from you. Instead I have heard encouragement, well wishes, and empathy. Thank you. Peace truly is my family, and your thoughts, prayers and get well cards have meant so much, I cant express my gratitude enough. ~Pr. Matthew
