Becky's Feasibility Study Project Questionnaire
Becky's Feasibility Study Project Questionnaire
1. What is the purpose of the project? What question do you want to answer or
problem do you want to solve? Who will benefit from a report that offers a
solution or answer?
The purpose of this project is to research if it is feasible to turn the
Litchfield Motel into apartments. The question that would be answered is:
will the property be more successful as a motel or apartments? People who
will benefit from this report will include: the motel owner, residents of
Litchfield and local businesses.
2. Will the research needed to answer the question or solve the problem warrant your
conducting at least three interviews and using one other research method?
Explain. (If the answer is no, the project isn’t complex enough, so you’ll have to
go back to the drawing board).
Yes. I will interview residents of Litchfield that are looking for
apartments, to see if they would want to rent an apartment here. Questions
I could include would be: what are you looking for in an apartment, what
would you be willing to pay, would the location (by the lake) be a positive
aspect, etc. I could also research the demand in the rental housing market
versus the need for a motel in the city of Litchfield.
3. Can you do enough research to answer the question and make recommendations
during this semester? ( If the answer is no, you have probably identified a project
too large or complex to be completed on time. If it is too large, can you modify it?
If you can’t, then you probably need to reconsider your project.)
There are many research opportunities involving my project. The people in
the town of Litchfield will be very eager to help in my research, because it
will ultimately affect the town of Litchfield. I think that the motel owner
would greatly benefit from my research and results of the feasibility
project.
4. Who is the person (decision maker) who will receive your report and
recommendations with your suggested answer to the question? A decision maker
is a person with the responsibility, authority and resources to accept or reject your
recommendations.
a. What is that person’s position or role?
The decision maker is Mr. Adam Werner, who is the owner of the
Litchfield Motel. He manages all financial records and is the sole
decision maker of the property.
b. What is your relationship with the decision maker?
The decision maker is a friend of my parents. I have no real
close connection, but I know he would be willing to participate in this
research.
5. What kinds of information will you need to gather?
I will have to gather information such as the demand for the Litchfield
Motel, demand for apartments and prices in Litchfield, approximate
construction costs, current room rates, yearly gross (if accessible to me),
advantages and disadvantages of running it as a motel or apartment living,
and city ordinance guidelines.
6. What would be the best methods for gathering that information?
Interviews, information from a local realtor, newspaper listings, City of
Litchfield Courthouse and a local contractor (my Father)
7. You will need to conduct at least three interviews as you complete your research.
Who could you talk to? How will they help you answer the question and make
recommendations?
I would need to talk to the owner, local contractor, residents of Litchfield
apartments, and a local realtor. They could help me answer interview
questions and make recommendations on their opinion of the decision,
personal preferences of an apartment, provide market information and their
views on the city property.
8. Do you have any questions about the feasibility study?
I don’t have any questions yet, but they may come later.
