Health benefits of tomato have been known to mankind since ages. Tomato is a rich source of antioxidants that have been proven to be effective against many forms of cancer. Some of the other health benefits of tomato are as follows: Abundant Source of Antioxidants: Tomato contains large amount of lycopene, an antioxidant highly effective in scavenging cancer causing free radicals. This benefit can be obtained from even heat-processed tomato products, including ketchup. The lycopene in tomato fights against cancer and has been shown to be particularly effective in fighting prostate cancer, cervical cancer, cancer of the stomach and rectum as well as pharynx and oesophageal cancers. It also protects againstbreast cancer and cancer of mouth according to studies published by Harvard School of Public Health. o Reduces Cholesterol and Protects Heart:The lycopene in tomato prevents serum lipid oxidation, thus exerting protective effect against cardiovascular diseases. The regular consumption of tomato has proved to decrease the levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. These lipids are the key culprits in cardiovascular diseases and lead to deposition of fats in the blood vessels. o Rich Source of Vitamins and Minerals: A single tomato can provide about 40% of daily vitamin Crequirement. Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant which acts against cancer-causing free radicals. It also contains abundant vitamin A and potassium as well as iron. Potassium plays a vital role in maintaining nerve health and iron is essential for maintaining normal blood health. Vitamin K which is essential inblood clotting and controls bleeding is abundant in tomatoes. o Counters the Effect of Cigarette Smoke: The two main components of tomatoes, coumaric acid and chlorogenic acid, fight against nitrosamines which are produced in the body and are the main carcinogens found in cigarette smoke.

BITTER MELON Benefits Of Bitter Melon!

Anti-oxidative Activity Boiled bitter melon extracts show anti-oxidant activities. Extracts from bitter melon (Momordica charantia, Cucurbitaceae) showed a significant difference in the free radical scavenging activity between the extract obtained by using cold maceration and that prepared by boiling the plant in the solvent under reflux, suggesting the chemical composition of the plant changed during the heating process, leading to an increase in the amount of antioxidant components. It is believed that its strong anti-oxdative activity allows the variety of health benefits of bitter melon. Alzheimer's disease Four lectins (Abrus precatorius (APA), Maackia amurensis (MAA), Bitter Melon and Sambucus nigra (SNA)) have been used to identify glycohistochemically the microglial cells (MGC) activation in autoptic brain samples from Alzheimer's disease subjects. Three of these lectins including the one from bitter melon have utilized as microglial cell markers for the first time. It would be interesting to see if there is any benefit of bitter melon on Alzheimer's disease. Cancers Bitter melon extracts may provide benefits for cancers as they have shown anti-cancer activities in a study of Swiss albino mice. A significant decrease in tumor burden was observed in short and long-term treatment. Also, total tumor incidence reduced to 83.33% with 2.5% dose and 90.90% with 5% dose in short term treatment, while in long-term treatment tumor incidence decreased to 76.92% with 2.5% dose and 69.23% with 5% dose of bitter melon. Seed oil from bitter melon (Momordica charantia), which is rich in cis(c)9, trans(t)11, t13-conjugated linolenic acid, has been shown to inhibit the development of azoxymethane-induced colonic aberrant crypt foci. Seed oil from bitter melon rich in t13-conjugated linolenic acid can suppress azoxymethane -induced colon carcinogenesis and the inhibition might be caused, in part, by modification of lipid composition in the colon and liver and/or increased expression of PPARgamma protein level in the colon mucosa. Furthermore, Pitchakarn P and other researchers at Nagoya City University demonstrated the possibly beneficial effects of a bitter melon leaf extract on prostate cancer in a cell study. Cholesterol profiles Bitter melon may also have benefits of lipid-lowering activities. Researchers have shown the hypolipidemic effect of dietary methanol fraction (BMMF) extracted from bitter melon (Koimidori variety), at the levels of 0.5% and 1.0%, in male golden Syrian hamsters. The results of another study have clearly shown that that bitter melon, especially Koimidori variety, exhibited a potent liver triglyceride-lowering activity. The triglyceride lowering activity was furthermore confirmed by the dose-dependent reduction of hepatic triglyceride, resulting the lowest level in rats fed 3.0% supplementation. Diabetes With limited scientific supports, bitter melon is general believed to benefit diabetes. In a study, researchers from University of Bologna, Italy, asked 720 herbalists what herbal remedy that they would recommend to those suffered from diabetes. They suggested ten herbal remedies and bitter melon is in the list.

STRING BEAN Benefits Of String Bean!

Fresh green beans are very low in calories (31 kcal per 100 g of raw beans) and contain no saturated fat. Nevertheless, the lean vegetables are a very good source of vitamins, minerals, and plant derived micronutrients. They are very rich source of dietary fiber (9% per100g RDA) which acts as a bulk laxative that helps to protect the mucous membrane of the colon by decreasing its exposure time to toxic substances as well as by binding to cancer-causing chemicals in the colon. Adequate amount of fiber has also been shown to reduce blood cholesterol levels by decreasing reabsorption of cholesterol-binding bile acids in the colon. Green beans contain excellent levels of vitamin A, and health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin and -carotene in good amounts. These compounds help act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging and various disease processes. Zea-xanthin, an important dietary carotenoid in the beans, selectively absorbed into the retinal macula lutea in the eyes where it thought to provide antioxidant and protective UV light filtering functions. It is, therefore, green beans offer some protection in preventing agerelated macular disease(ARMD) in the elderly. Snap beans are a good source of folates. 100 g fresh beans provide 37 g or 9% of folates. Folate along with vitamin B-12 is one of the essential components of DNA synthesis and cell division. Good folate diet when given during preconception periods and during pregnancy helps prevent neural-tube defects among the offspring. They also contain good amounts of vitamin-B6 (pyridoxine), thiamin (vitamin B-1), and vitamin-C. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals.

HARD WORKING
Filipinos over the years have proven time and time again that they are a people with an industrious attitude. Sadly, this is seen by others as Filipinos being only useful as domestic helpers, working abroad to help their families in the country. This is also present in the countrys workforce particularly the farmers. Even with little support, technological weaknesses and the countrys seasonal typhoons, the Filipino farmer still strives to earn their daily meal. Even though the government provides small support to the countrys workers, many people choose to engage in micro businessesthe so-called sari-sari stores and tiangge, the Filipino version of local markets and ukay-ukay, or second-hand stores. Some would also pursue engaging in transportation with jeepneys, tricycles and such to offer low-cost transportation to the ever mobile masses. Though these are some examples on how Filipinos get by with everyday living, these work opportunities offer only minimum pay but Filipinos still pursue them in hopes of giving their children a decent life and proper education so they could elevate themselves to a higher standard of living. HardWork is the process of changing both the world and yourself so that at the end you and the world have become more connected: you've become more real to other observers in the world and they have become more real to you. Such transformations are not hard. People have this idea that being, say, a political activist means one is a humourless sort engaged in endless toil. The only reason people think that worthwhile activities like political activism are hard is because they want to justify to themselves why they're not engaged in them and because the ProtestantWorkEthic is a cultural assumption. Because political activism is clearly worthwhile, people assume that it requires hard work even in the face of contrary evidence. If people believed in something opposite the ProtestantWorkEthic, then genuine civic participation would be considered a pleasure instead of a chore. How much work is to be found in an activity is at least partly caused by the attitude people bring to it. The effect works both individually and collectively. Individually, if people think that something is hard then they won't find the pleasure in it. Collectively, if society at large thinks something is hard then the few individuals who attempt it will find it harder going. There are many different activities requiring different degrees of effort and compulsion. On one extreme are activities which require no compulsion, like having sex, on the other extreme are activities which require much compulsion, like slave labour. Most activities fall somewhere in between. Those activities could then be termed leisure or work with equal preference. However, if someone believes that only work is worthwhile then they will characterize all these 'mixed leisure-work' activities by their work component. The problem then is that this person lumps all worthwhile activity with abject slavery. It is far preferable to lump all of the worthwhile activities with sex so that one can avoid implicitly condoning of slavery.

Strong Family Ties

In the country the people put family ties and relations as one of their top priorities. Filipinos would do all they could to provide and sustain their respective families. This is present in Filipino festivals where they invite the whole family and in Sundays where they would make time to use it to spend the whole day for their families. You will find that it is common in the country to include the extended members not just the normal nuclear family. It is not unusual that in a single household it would reach up to ten members of a family living under the same roof. They value each others company, and everyone strives to provide for the whole and not just for them. Even grandparents still have an active role in the family. It is now the norm in the society that both parents are out working, leaving the care of their children to the lolos and lolas, especially if the family cannot afford to hire a nanny. Grandparents therefore become responsible for instilling into their grandchildren the values and morals they taught to their own children, further increasing the importance of the elderly in our society. Among the outlandish cultural values that Filipinos pride themselves of is their so-called close family ties. As a child, I was taught that Filipinos are unique because they care for their family and kin at a level of closeness that is rarely observed or practiced in other cultures or races. (Asians and Hispanics in general are closely-knit.) It is a cultural tradition that is valued and evidenced by our fondness for family reunions during secular and religious holidays such as Christmas, New Years eve parties, All Saints Day, Holy Week, fiestas, homecomings, birthdays, weddings, graduations, baptisms, house blessings, wakes, funerals and almost every conceivable excuse to celebrate and feast. (Shared among former Hispanic colonies.) We consider the farthest degrees of our kinship as extended family and take pride and value that relationship as something useful for getting favors, grants and advantage. Having an influential, powerful and wealthy ninong(godfather) or ninang (godmother) in your baptism and wedding is enough insurance and security card to get you along the myriad, complex, tumultuous and predatory Philippine society. How much more having a first degree kin in the corridors of power? It is a very important and high stakes value that political dynasties exist and thrive in this country. Having a huge clan is also an advantage in winning an election or having an upper hand in employing vendettas in a violent clan war against another. At a very young age, Filipino children are trained to be loyal to their parents and elders by blindly obeying their authority and the conditions they impose within the family. They are taught that family and kinship is the foundation of their existence and purpose in life. The hackneyed adage blood is thicker than water is a familiar mantraa spell that resonates throughout your life in making moral decisions that often tear you apart between your personal interest and happiness against the collective; between your own decision and your familys decision; between your morality and THEIR morality. The INDIVIDUAL belongs to the COLLECTIVEa virtual slave, a conformist, an investment, a chattel

Honesty
Being a hard-working people, the Filipinos are also honest. In general, they would prefer to work hard for an honest days pay than to find an easier way like stealing or cheating. As in the case of overseas Filipino workers or OFWs, they are mostly domestic helpers and though given a job which requires a lot of trust from the employer as they are left alone with their belongings or children, it is rare that Filipinos would do anything to betray or lose the trust that is given to them. We see so many Filipinos working in the homes of other families precisely because they can be trusted. But even in our own country, Filipinos have displayed honesty in various forms, may it be from a taxi driver returning a dropped phone or wallet. Filipinos would choose to do the right thing, though sometimes this is not necessarily true.

We all know the famous saying, honesty is the best policy. This idiom is an integrated part of all religion and people all over the world believe this even if they do not believe in any particular religion. But do we know the exact definition and meaning of honesty? There are some words which are very hard to define. For example, love. The meaning of love varies from person to person. Every person defines it on his own way. This is because of the wide sense of the word. Same thing goes for honesty. Understanding the proper meaning and wide sense of the word honesty is very difficult yet very important for each and every individual. So what is the exact definition and meaning of honesty? Ok, I can give you a dictionary definition and meaning of honesty but is that sufficient? Will it explain the real spirit of the word? I do not think so. Lets have a look on the detail significance of the sacred word honesty.
Honesty means being trustworthy: the most important and significant part of being honest is being trustworthy not only to the outside world but also to you. Being honest with yourself is the most difficult thing as you know yourself better than anyone does. You can lie to anyone about a particular thing or event or about your attitude toward something or someone but you cannot lie to yourself. When you cheat someone, or when you lie to someone may be they do not realize that you are cheating on them or lying to them but you do. At the end of the day, you are your own judge and on your judgment you know where you stand on the scale of trustworthiness. No matter how honest you are on other peoples eye, if you are not honest and trustworthy to yourself it would be like a throne that will keep on nagging you deep inside your mind. I think everyone knows this fact. So honesty means being trustworthy from inside and out. Honestly means being genuine: another important part of being honest is being genuine. An honest person does not pretend. They say what they believe and do the same. If someones deeds and words do not match then he/she cannot be considered as an honest person. You can pretend to believe in something or in some values which you actually do not. May be none will ever find out that but one person always knows the truth, and that is you. So the definition and meaning of honesty is being genuine.

With these two qualities i.e. trustworthiness and genuine there come few more qualities and these are humble nature, orderly actions, execution, sacrifice and yielding nature. Let me explain this virtues and how these are related to the definition and meaning of

honesty.

Religious
The Philippines is one the most religious countries in world, particularly in Catholicism and Islam. Families would encourage and strengthen the values of their children and would at least have one day a week for worship and at the same time strengthening family ties. Religion is the foundation of most of the countrys morals and values and sometimes, the church greatly affects the minds and opinions of the general populace, affecting its decisions. Sadly, this also applies to the government as they are troubled by whatever the Churchs stand is in every matter, as people see their opinion to be the right one. Thus, many of our politicians go with whatever the Church says, fearing that they would lose vote if they go against it.

Having or showing a belief in and veneration for God or a divine power, especially as it is reflected in the practice of religion. Religious implies adherence to religion in both belief and practice: The cathedral at Chartres is an expression of the religious fervor of the Middle Ages. Devout connotes ardent faith and sincere devotion: Devout Muslims observe Ramadan punctiliously. Pious stresses dutiful, reverential discharge of religious duties: a pious woman who attends Mass every morning.

Resiliency
The Philippines is a hotspot for disasters, natural and otherwise. Couple that with poverty, and one would think that Filipinos have the most reason for being a depressed people. However, we have demonstrated time and again that Filipinos can bounce back from a tragedy, emerging stronger and better than before. In the middle of a disaster, Filipinos can still manage to smile and be hopeful that the next morning brings new hope. We have shown the world that by working together as a nation, we have what it takes to recover from a bad situation. This is something that all of us should be proud of, no matter where in the world we are. The physical property of a material that can return to its original shape or position after deformation that does not exceed its elastic limit An occurrence of rebounding or springing back. The ability to recover quickly from illness, change, or misfortune; buoyancy.
One way to think of "resilience" is as the ability to succeed and prosper even after facing setbacks and hardships. Resilience is especially important during the tween years when children face new academic challenges, pressure and rejection from peers, and increasing awareness of their own limitations. Children who have this ability bounce back well after they face these issues. They are less likely to develop depression, anxiety or unhealthy coping mechanisms like aggression, eating issues and substance problems. Some characteristics that encourage resilience are innate; such as intellectual ability and being outgoing; but many others can be actively developed.

Resilient people are aware of the situation, their own emotional reactions and the behavior of those around them. In order to manage feelings, it is essential to understand what is causing them and why. By remaining aware, resilient people can maintain their control of the situation and think of new ways to tackle problems. An Understanding that Setbacks are Part of Life: Another characteristic of resilience is the understanding that life is full of challenges. While we cannot avoid many of these problems, we can remain open, flexible, and willing to adapt to change. An Internal Locus of Control: Do you perceive yourself as having control over your own life? Or do you blame outside sources for failures and problems? Generally, resilient people tend to have what psychologists call an internal locus of contrll. They believe that the actions they take will affect the outcome of an event. Of course, some factors are simply outside of our personal control, such as natural disasters. While we may be able to put some blame on external causes, it is important to feel as if we have the power to make choices that will affect our situation, our ability to cope, and our future.
