CREDENTIAL AND REQUIREMENTS


CNE: Option A: Must have a current unrestricted RN license in the U.S. or its territories, a masters or doctoral degree in nursing with a major emphasis in nursing education or 9 or more credit hours of graduate-level education courses, and 2 years or more of full-time employment in the academic faculty role within the past 5 years. Option B: Must have a current unrestricted RN license in the U.S., a masters or doctoral degree in nursing with a major emphasis in a role other than nursing education, and 4 years or more of full-time employment in the academic faculty role within the past 5 years. Fee: National League for Nursing members, $375; nonmembers, $475. CNE credential is valid for 5 years; must retake the exam or document participation in professional development activities. Retest fee: $325, members; $425, nonmembers. ACNP-BC (formerly APRN-BC and APRN,BC): RN license in a state or territory of the U.S. or the professional, legally recognized equivalent in another country and a masters, post-graduate, or doctorate from an acute care NP program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). A minimum of 500 faculty-supervised clinical hours must be included in the acute care NP program. The ACNP graduate program must include coursework in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, and advanced pathophysiology. It must also include content in health promotion and disease prevention and differential diagnosis and disease management. Fee: $270$395. Endorsing or Partnering Organizations: American College of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association. The renewal cycle for all the listed ANCC credentials is 5 years. CARN: Must hold a current full and unrestricted RN license in the U.S., its territories, or Canada. If licensed in more than one jurisdiction, the candidate must hold full and unrestricted licenses in all. Must have a minimum of 2,000 hours (1 year) of addictions nursing practice as an RN within the preceding 3 years. Experience may be as a staff nurse, administrator, educator, consultant, counselor, private practitioner, or researcher. Fee: IntNSA members, $195; nonmembers, $395; new members, $335. Valid for 4 years; may retake exam or document contact hours. CARN-AP: Must hold a current full and unrestricted RN license in the U.S., its territories, or Canada. Must have a masters or higher degree in nursing. Must have minimum of 500 hours of supervised direct client contact in advanced clinical practice working with individuals and families impacted by addictions/ dual diagnoses. All 500 hours of credit may have been earned in a masters degree program. Fee: IntNSA members, $295; nonmembers, $495; new members, $435. Valid for 4 years; may retake exam or document contact hours. ACNS-BC (formerly APRN,BC): RN license and a masters, postmasters, or doctorate from a clinical nurse specialist in adult health program accredited by the CCNE or the NLNAC. A minimum of 500 faculty-supervised clinical hours in the CNS-adult health nursing role and specialty must be included in the educational program. The adult health CNS graduate program must include coursework in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, and advanced pathophysiology. Fee: $270$395. Endorsing or Partnering Organizations: American Nurses Association, National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. ANP-BC (formerly APRN-BC and APRN,BC): RN license and a masters, postmasters, or doctorate from an adult NP program accredited by the CCNE or the NLNAC. A minimum of 500 faculty-supervised clinical hours must be included in the adult NP program. The ANP graduate program must include coursework in advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology, and advanced pathophysiology. The program must also include content in health promotion and disease prevention and differential diagnosis and disease management. Fee: $270$395.
