Dear Tata Building India English Essay Competition 2009-10 You would be pleased to know that the Tata group of companies, over the past three years, has sought to ignite the bright young minds of India through a national level school essay competition. This competition is held annually for students of class 6-12 and is conducted at school level across key cities of India. Started in 2006 with 6 cities and 1 lakh students in English language the competition has grown manifold to become Indias largest essay competition touching almost a million students across multiple languages in 2008-09. The national winners of previous 2 editions also got the opportunity to meet and interact with the past President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the current President of India, Mrs. Pratibha Patil respectively at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. A booklet providing the synopsis of the activity is attached for your reference. With the tremendous response we experienced over the past three years, this year we are extending this English edition of the competition to over 36 cities where almost a million students across 1500 English medium schools are expected to participate. This letter is to invite your school to take part in this very promising nation building initiative. The competition will be held in 2 phases. In the first phase, children will be shown a medley of two films - one on the Tata story over the last 100 years captured in the form of a moving exhibition and the other through the lens of school children, a film about Tata Companies efforts to help preserve the planet titled Speak for the Earth. Viewed together the two films capture the Tata ethos of giving back to society in more forms than one. The second phase of the competition will engage the children in writing an essay of approximately 500 words on a pre-determined topic of nation building. To further ensure a level playing field, the competition will be held at three levels Junior Level (Std. 6 8) Middle Level ((Std. 9 10) and Senior Level (Std. 11 12). The winners for the competition are selected at the school level, and then judged at the city level, and thereafter for national level recognition, winning attractive prizes. Our ground activity partners M/s. Wings Brand Activations Pvt. Ltd. have been entrusted with the task of managing the activity with the schools and will be seeking a meeting with the school administration authorities to obtain permission to conduct this unique essay competition.
