Directors Notes
In his award-winning musical, Rupert Holmes set out not simply to stage Dickens unfinished novel, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, but while solving the mystery, to give it a life of manifold permutations on the stage . Employing a play within a play, Holmes imagines an English music hall company performing Drood for the first time, and inviting the audience to determine key elements of the story. Today our Worcester Academy cast are portraying 19th-century actors, who are in turn portraying Dickens characters. And you, dear audience, are not left out : You are in the role of the 19th-century audience voting on the outcome, but dont let it go to your heads, you wont guess the ending even after you have voted! As in all music halls, the evening is presided over by the Chairman, who serves as producer, director, and master of ceremonies. The actors are members of a troupe, each having his specialty: leading man, villain, heroine, exotic foreigner, comic, simpleton, etc., dictated by tradition, talent, and the Chairmans whim. Welcome to a world of vice, fleeting virtue, great pomposity, and blatant prejudice, as we, and you, present the solution to The Mystery of Edwin Drood. DI

Jessica Campbell is a senior at Worcester Academy. This is her third musical production at WA and she couldnt enjoy it any more! The cast and crew are so wonderful and Jessica loves every single one of them! Hopefully, Jessica will be going to college next year for an astounding Musical Theatre B.F.A program. Many, many thanks to Bill, Irvdawg, and my parents! So, kick off your boots, loosen your corsets...and enjoy yourselves!!! :)

Alix Wiliams is a senior this year, and this is her third musical performance at WA. She has had such a great time working on The Mystery of Edwin Drood and hopes you enjoy the show!

Michal Grabias is a senior; he has participated in the last three musicals, though this will be his first time as a performer. I hopes dearly that everyone will enjoy the departments interpretation of this lovely musical. -Michal Grabias, circa 2011

Amelia Erskine is a sophomore this year, and it is her second year being in the musical. She has had a wonderful time, and loves to sing and dance with such talented friends; in fact, it is an experience that she looks forward to throughout the year. She hopes that the show will be enjoyable for those who watch it, because it was lots of fun to learn.

Roshun Alur is a senior this year at Worcester Academy. He has previously been a part of Worcester Academys Anything Goes and Seussical musical productions , playing Billy Crocker and Horton the Elephant, repectively. Roshun would like to thank the wonderful cast of tonights show and his talented directors. A special shout out to all of the crew members who have put in countless hours into making the show a success. CA falls in 11! Sun-Mee Kasper, a junior at the Academy, is very excited to be a part of her third musical production on the Hilltop. Past productions at WA include Anything Goes, Seussical, and Reckless (with The Pit Company). She enjoys the YouTube video Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (it never gets old), drinking water, and the beautiful voices (and faces) of Matt Doyle and Aaron Tveit. (Shout out to Will Chase for putting up with her creepiness!) Sunny would like to thank her stage managers, Bryan (who rocks the fingerless gloves) and Andy (whose smile and charisma brightens her day) for their work behind the scenes. All the love and hugs in the world to Mumsie and Daddy and Ari, the best family in the world. Sunny would finally like to thank her amazing friends (seniors, you know who you are!), without whom she would never have been able to stay semi-sane through the past year and a half; they have been an invaluable part of her life, and as the song from Wicked goes, because I knew you, I have been changed for good. Xx Abigail Small is a coloratura soprano. She has been at Worcester Academy for 7 years and is finally a senior. This is her fifth musical at WA. She made her dbut at WA in 4th grade when she played the part of Gretel Von Trapp in the high school production of The Sound of Music Abigail sings in three of the four choruses at WA. She is also the student director of The Hillpoppas. She studies privately with mezzo-soprano, Angeliki Theoharis. As she looks ahead to college she plans on majoring in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in classical vocal performance. She is one of the lead sopranos in her church choir. She also has sung in National Honor Choirs around the country for over five years. She is thrilled to play the part of Rosa in The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Abigail is thankful for her parents who have provided her with wonderful opportunities in life. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Anita Alur is a sophomore this year and this is her second musical production at WA. She has thoroughly enjoyed working on both Drood this year, and Seussical last year and hopes to continue doing musicals for her remaining two years at the Academy. Anita would like to thank all of her friends in the cast who have made this show a truly amazing and memorable experience, as well as Mr. Irving and Mr. Taylor, whose guidance and training have made the show a real production. She hopes everyone enjoys the show and laughs throughout!

Nicole Gaudette is a freshman, and she is very excited to be working on her first Upper School Production. She had a fun time working on the show, hopes everyone will enjoy it, and congratulates everyone who worked so hard on it. Special thanks to Mom and Dad and everyone in the cast for making these last few months so much fun. Shine on.

Ryan Rogers a PG at worcester academy and this is his first show. He had a great time doing it and it was a good experience for him!

Adam Echelman is a sophomore this year, and is thrilled to be appearing as Durdles in Drood. He had a fantastic time working on the show and would gratefully like to thank his family, friends, and the whole cast for supporting him all the way through it. Hope you enjoy!

Claire Byrnes, a junior, is enjoying her multi-faceted role in Drood this year, playing Wendy, a dancer, and a waitress. She has loved working on her second show at Worcester Academy and hopes you like it as much as she does!

Matt Kim is a sophomore this year, and this in his first production at Worcester Academy. He is appearing as The Deputy in this amazing show Drood. He finds it truly enjoyable to portray a comical character. He assures that Drood is one of the most astounding shows and hopes people will be thrilled to watch it.

Julie MacLean cant believe that The Mystery of Edwin Drood is her last musical at Worcester Academy. Being a member of this fantastically talented cast of both new and old friends has been the best ending to her high school musical career that she could have hoped for. She would like to thank every incredible person who has supported her throughout the past four years. There are just too many to list. She would be lost without the encouragement of her family, teachers, directors, and friends. She would also like to make a shout out to Adam Chanler-Berat for being amazing. Peter Dykeman-Bermingham is a freshman this year and this is his first production here at Worcester Academy. He is ecstatic to be working on a play as interesting as The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Appearing as Neville Landless/Mr. Victor Grinstead, he had a most interesting time preparing for the production and hopes everyone finds it in their heart to rule him the murderer. Andrew Reiter is performing in his second musical here at Worcester Academy, but this time, he performs as a sophomore. This years experience has been really great musically; he has learned how to sing in harmony, so he no longer just sings along with the sopranos. He has also learned how to use a mixed voice, but he isnt really sure if/when this ever comes in handy. Unfortunately, Andrew still cant read music; the notes all look the same to him. In previous years Andrew has performed in Oklahoma!,The King and I, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Seussical. Andrew is glad you have made it to the performance and cared enough to read his bio, and he hopes that his family out in the balcony will be able to hear the production. But most importantly, Andrew wishes to thank the backstage crew, lighting team, the orchestra, the wonderful stage managers, and hair and makeup for their phenomenal work. And to his castmates: Break a leg! Tamani is a senior and cant believe she is in her third and final musical production at WA. She has been dancing at Charlotte Klein Dance Centers for 12 years and is a member of Company I there. It was only after joining the musical as a dancer her sophomore year that she discovered her love of singing, so for that she is extremely grateful to Mr. Irving, Mr. Taylor, and everyone else involved in the winter musical productions. Getting to know all of them during this process over the past three years has created wonderful lasting memories for her and was one of the reasons she kept coming back. She would like to say thank you to the fantastic cast of The Mystery of Edwin Drood for all of the fun times and tolerating the sight of her snood at every rehearsal. Tamani would also like to thank her amazing friends and family for their love and support, mainly putting up with her singing loudly in an attempted cockney accent at all hours for the past three months.

Elysa is a senior at Worcester Academy and is thrilled to be a member of the Drood cast and this unique show. Elysa has had an amazing experience in each of the four musicals she has participated in at WA, meeting some of her closest friends through them. She is going to miss all of the phenomenal vocalists, dancers, actors, actresses, designers, stage managers, and awesome crew members she has gotten to know over the years. She wishes best of luck to the seniors as they head into the world and to the others in their continuing WA performances.

Ricky Campos is a sophomore at Worcester Academy, and this is his second production. He sings with the Academy Singers, Hillpoppas, and the Advanced Chorus. He hopes you will enjoy the show!

Allison Aghjayan is a sophomore and is excited to be participating in her second musical at WA. She had a lot of fun spending time with the cast and crew and wants to congratulate everyone for putting on a great show.
