Thanksgiving Special
The month of November was focused on supporting and rewarding our Dover High students. CIS made a great effort to get the faculty and staff
Connecting community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life.
We believe that every child needs and deserves the Five Basics: 1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult 2. A safe place to learn and grow 3. A health start and healthy future 4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation 5. A chance to give back to peers and community. CSI school-based programs are designed to provide students with at least one of these REAL basics.

involved with our Make A Plate food drive and RAP Recognition Making Period Celebration.

Make A Plate
Communities In Schools (CIS) at Dover High School teamed up with the faculty and staff to make this Thanksgiving one to remember. CIS hosted a Make A Plate food drive asking for specific items that would be ideal for an actual Thanksgiving meal. The CIS Director, Terisha Collins suggested, We should take care of home first by distributing the boxes to students here at Dover High. The faculty and staff did not hesitate to contribute hundreds of items such as turkeys, stuffing, and cranberry sauce, etc. The Delaware Food Bank also donated 10 boxes to CIS which gave a total of 22 boxes for our Dover High families. Students from Delaware State University volunteered with CIS because they wanted to make a difference. They stuffed and decorated all the boxes for the families. CIS values the importance of supporting our students during the holidays.

There are currently 18 active mentors at Dover High that are coming to spend time with their mentees. The pairs are enjoying their time together and are making great strides in goal setting and relationship building. DHS students are also volunteering their time as mentors at Fairview Elem. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or are a student that would like to be mentored, please stop by the Green Office or contact Ms. Holmes Steffi.Holmes@capital.k12.de.us
