ST
1 SUNDAY OF LENT
MARCH 1ST, 2009
“CULTIVATING THE SEEDS OF FAITH”: An Adult Faith Formation Program
An invitation is extended to all parishioners of the Diocese to attend these faith formation sessions
which will run Tuesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 p.m. This week’s session is at St. John Chrysostom
Parish Hall, Arnprior. Presenter: Jason Dedo; Topic: The Liturgical Year. See bulletin boards for a
complete list of
of the schedule.
LENT & BAPTISM: Lent is a season of preparation for Baptism, a season of Baptismal
renewal: we need to be reminded of our Baptism as we enter the church. Holy water,
blessed at the Easter Vigil, allows us to bless ourselves as we enter our church. The practice
of the Church is to empty the Holy Water fonts on the days of the Sacred Triduum in
preparation of the blessing of the water at the Easter Vigil, and it corresponds to those
days on which the Eucharist is not celebrated (i.e. Good Friday and Holy Saturday).
Welcoming people into our faith through the Sacrament of Baptism is usually
reserved for the Vigil of Easter and so our season of Lent is a wonderful time of preparation
for such a powerful commitment and time of welcome.
The draping of our Baptismal font this year is but a reminder to us of the season
of renewal of our Baptism and of our parish community that is supporting people who
are preparing for the grace of Baptism at our celebration of Resurrection.
CHARITY
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME: Two percent of our Sunday Offerings are shared with
the needy. Indeed, many requests for assistance are met by our parish as requests
come in. This fund however, has been a tradition here that has supported local and
missionary appeals
appeals for many years. The Social Justice Committee advises me on the
matter and I thank them for their assistance. We share with y you
ou our decisions
about this year’s donations. As well as our donation to Fr. Rand in Uganda…….

celebrate them today, continues this Thursday at which time we will explore the Sacrament of
the Sick. Everyone is most welcome to join us in the church at 7:00 p.m.
CALABOGIE RENFREW PRO-LIFE: The 40 Days for Life is a period of prayer and fasting by pro-
life organizations for 40 days calling forth God’s mercy and petitioning Him for an end to abortion
in our land. During this period we pray for the conversion of the moms and dads who are consider-
ing abortion. Jesus reminded us in scripture that some evils can only be dealt with through prayer
and fasting so we join with about 200 North American cities to pray and fast from February 25th to
April 4th. There is also direct participation for a 24 hour period for those who are able, at the 65 Bank
Street abortuary, Ottawa daily for silent witness for 1 hour.
