Thanks to the tireless efforts of McKean Project Coordinator, Trish Ragan, CIS at McKean is proud to announce the addition of two new mentors to the program this month! Caroline Hale, a junior at the University of Delaware, completed a 50 hour internship with CIS at McKean HS in the fall. She enjoyed her experience so much that she decided to come back this spring to mentor two students whom she connected with during her time here. Kevin Cencula, a member of the community who works for DuPont, contacted the school with an interest in mentoring a male student athlete. Trish was happy to pair him with one of our young male students. In addition to Caroline and Kevin, Janine Sorbello from the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, Margot Price from Connecting Generations, Amanda Breger and Michelle Morton (both teachers at McKean) have helped grow our mentoring program from zero last year to six mentors and eight students this year!! Thank you so much for your continued time, support, and commitment to our students! Additionally, Ariel Saypol and Kelly Cassidy both joined the CIS team this spring as interns from the University of Delaware. Ariel, a senior, who is studying Human Services with a concentration in School Counseling, will be completing a 400 hour internship focusing on meeting individually with students to help improve their grades and attendance. Kelly Cassidy, a junior, is also studying Human Services, but with a concentration in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. She will complete a 50 hour internship assisting staff and students with various needs. McKean Student Leaders have followed suite as seven students continue to mentor students at Linden Hill Elementary weekly after-school.
