Ten New Gun Bills Introduced On First Day Of Congress

January 4th 2012 By Tim Brown

With the left looking for its next big cause, Congressional Democrats have latched onto the Sandy Hook massacre as an opportunity to push gun control. Yesterday alone, eight new bills were introduced relating to gun control. Two conservative bills were introduced relating to ending gun free zones under federal law. On the first day of the 113th Congress, ten new bills were introduced with an emphasis on guns. The majority of these, eight, were introduced by Democrats. The two that were introduced by freshmen Republican Congressmen are designed to eliminate schools as gun free zones. Four of the bills came from Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who has been active for some time in trying to push more gun control legislation because of the fact that her husband was shot to death in 1993. McCarthy introduced HR 137, 138, 141, and 142. HR 137 and HR138 would require people who are prohibited from purchasing a firearm to be cataloged in a national database and would also prevent transfers of high-capacity ammunition magazines. Her HR 141 bill would require criminal background checks at all gun shows, while her HR 142 bill would require face-to-face purchases of ammunition, the licensing of dealers, and the reporting of bulk ammunition purchases. Can you imagine what this will do to internet business regarding ammunition? Thats right, it will kill it. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) led the way with four bills introduced. Her husband was shot to death in 1993 and her son was severely injured when Colin Ferguson, a mentally unstable black militant (he spent time in his apartment chanting, all the black people killing all the white people), shot up a Long Island commuter train. She has been a longtime gun control advocate. In 1997, she tried to push a federal law that would have mandated trigger locks on all firearms. She introduced legislation that would have forced gun companies to produce firearms that were child-resistant. In 2007, she tried an assault weapons ban that would have targeted some 65 types of firearms. 1

The measures McCarthy introduced include: Significant restrictions on gun show transactions, which would in effect end gun shows No online purchases of ammunition, and licensing of ammunition dealers, as well as reporting to the federal government all bulk ammunition purchases Prohibition on the transfer, sale, or possession of ammunition clips beyond a certain size.

But McCarthy wasnt alone. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), apparently ignoring the fact that his heavily gun-controlled home city of Chicago is the nations leader in murder with guns, introduced legislation that would create more stringent licensing for gun owners. So did Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ). Representatives Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Rush Hold (D-NJ) each put forth their bills, HR 34 and HR 117, which would tighten firearms licensing requirements. And Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) proposed a bill that would prevent anyone under age 21 from carrying a handgun even though people of 18 can vote and serve in the military. But wait theres more! Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) pushed forward a bill requiring background checks on all gun sales, which would essentially prevent non-gun-shop transfers of weapons. Representative Jim Moran (D-VA) re-introduced his HR 21 bill, which would require background checks for all gun sales. It would also require gun owners to report when their guns have been stolen. While he claims that polls regarding the National Rifle Associations membership support his bill, he doesnt provide any sources for his claims. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) proposed HR 65 which would raise the eligibility age of a person to carry a handgun from 18 to 21. Clearly she, along with others, has no concept of what shall not be infringed means. In addition, Republican congressmen Steve Stockman (R-TX) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) put forth HR 35 and HR 133 which would end the federal law requires areas around schools to be designated as gun free zones. Their bills are based in reality with data that demonstrates that violence both in and around schools increased when the federal law took effect in 1990. By disarming qualified citizens and officials in schools we have created a dangerous situation for our children, Stockman said. In the 22 years before enactment of gun free school zones there were two mass school shootings. In the 22 years since enactment of gun free schools there have been 10 mass school shootings, he continued. Not only has the bill utterly failed to protect our children it appears to have placed them in danger. This is just the House. Wait until the Democrat-led Senate gets going. Democrats are coming for guns, and theyre exploiting the tragedy in Sandy Hook to do it, without regard for the best policies to keep children safe while preserving Americans rights. So what of Feinsteins legislation? According to Senate leaders, they have set aside January 22 as the first day that the Senate will allow new legislation to be proposed.

Comment by Jack Graff: Why is it we NEVER hear the liberal, progressive, democrats that ALWAYS want to ban guns from law abiding American citizens say; why not try to get the CRIMINAL THUGS off the streets. Because even if you were to MELTED DOWN every gun ever made CRIMINAL THUGS will just find another weapon to use on the innocent whether it is a bomb, knife, kidnapping or what ever. These same criminals will surely find a way to keep being CRIMINAL THUGS. It sounds to me that the Mayors of these big cities are getting lazy and are not doing their JOBS. Chicago is a great example of why no gun control laws will ever solve this problem, you have over 500 people in Chicago killed last year alone from gang gun violence in this city, yet they have some of the strictest guns laws in America! You see how the liberal, progressive, democrats like to lump all gun crimes together but when you separate gun crimes out you find LEGAL guns aren't the problem, CRIMINALS are the problem! I guess that bumper sticker I saw back in 1988 still holds true today, IF YOU OUTLAW GUNS ONLY THE CRIMINALS WILL HAVE THEM. CRIMINALS don't give a CRAP about laws, hence why they are called criminals to begin with! Crimes committed with the use of a legal gun was only .0034% of the total of the guns used in the commission of a crime, that means that over 99% of gun crimes are by ILLEGALLY OBTAINED, filed off serial numbers, stolen or whatever other kind of ILLEGAL guns that criminals can get their hands on! There was also 11,500 deaths and 10,000 hurt or maimed from those ILLEGAL guns last year alone across the U.S. & guess where most of the crimes happened, in the big cities like N.Y. City & Chicago with a high minority population, BIG SHOCK! It sounds to me like the Mayors of these big cities need to start doing their JOBS and stop deflecting & lumping together all gun crimes & LEGAL guns as the problem, they aren't the problem CRIMINALS ARE THE PROBLEM!
