Jay Parini

Jay Parini is the D.E. Axinn Professor of English and Creative Writing at Middlebury College. His novels include The Last Station, Benjamin's Crossing, The Apprentice Lover, and The Passage of H.M.: A Novel of Herman Melville. His books of poetry include The Art of Subtraction: New and Selected Poems (2005). He has written volumes of essays and critical studies, as well as biographies of John Steinbeck, Robert Frost, and William Faulkner.

Presenter: Aubrey Garrison. ____ Wrap the World in Flames: Experiments in getting started and the art of the vivid suggestion. Presenter: Seth Jarvis. ____ Gossip, Anecdote and Writing Fiction. Presenter: Tom Paine. ____ Writing in Character Speaking in Tongues. Learn to capture the rhythm, word choices, signifying phrases, slang, and verbal hiccups of a specific character and get them down on paper. Presenter: David Schein. ____ Poetry Writing. Simplify the use of metaphor with poets from fourth grade to octogenarian. Presenter: Ed Webbley. ____ Informational Text Shifting Our Thinking.
