PRINCIPALS REPORT
ASHBY SCHOOL COUNCIL
All government schools in Victoria have a School Council. The School Council is a legally formed body that is given powers to set the key directions of a school within centrally provided guidelines. A School Council directly influences the facilities the school will offer, the utilisation of its resources, and ultimately shaping the schools future. Members of the School Council are made up of elected parents and DEECD employees, as well as the possibility of an optional co-opted community member. This year there are 4 members whose terms are ending. Terms are 2 years. These members may nominate to be re-elected, but essentially there are 4 vacancies for the Ashby School Council for 2013. As a result nominations are being called for to elect parents to the Ashby School Council. Nomination forms were sent home to each family or interested parents may collect nomination forms from the office. Next session will be Friday 15th March.

COMING TO SCHOOL IN THE MORNING.

Learning begins at 9.00 am in the morning. We support our students to begin the day well by playing music from 6 minutes to 9.00 allowing all students time to transition into school. This time is used to put bags away, write out lunch orders and generally get ready for learning. As part of the learning process we want our students to be responsible for themselves, organise their belongings and to be ready for school on time. Supporting our students to get to school on time daily is a very important habit to develop in our children. Also coming into school by themselves, carrying their own bag and putting it into the room themselves. We are encouraging the children to say goodbye in the playground and then going into school by themselves when they hear the music play. Please support your children in developing this behaviour. Jenny Omachen, Principal Ashby Primary School

Art News
Hi everyone and welcome to all our new families! We're already embarking on our first art project the Archie Bark Prize. This is obviously a play on words from the wellknown national portrait competition The Archibald Prize. Our students will be creating a painting of either their own dog, a dog they know or have known or maybe even a famous dog. Would all families be able to send a photo of a dog to school with your child. If you could put your child's name on the back that would be great. If you don't have a photo of a dog, that's ok we've got lots of pictures here. Thanks Kathy Hyland
