Hes been plying his trade around the watering holes of Northern Ireland for quite a while but now Marty Ts ready to take it to the next level. He recorded an EP, Escape From Nowhere, and its really rather good. Firmly in the indie camp and with big nods to The Las, Oasis less noisy moments (or just Noel Gallagher) and even young whippersnapper Jake
Bugg, Escape From Nowhere is from the textbook of jinglyjangly guitar pop and all the better for it. Theres a fine country influence too (hes no stranger to a Johnny Cash cover in his live sets) with subtle organplaying that wouldnt sound out of place in Blonde On Blonde, wandering basslines, acoustic strumming and, on the EPs title track, the most
exquisite honky tonk guitar solo east of Nashville. Opening track Dancing In The Rain has a grab-life-bythe-scruff-of-the-neck sort of sentiment, while Dont You Slip Away taps into the mood of Oasis The Importance Of Being Idle. But our favourite is the darkly evocative Got A Feeling, all tremolo guitar and creepy keys and, well, paranoia... its
great, just not for a Sunday morning. Martys debut EP is available now online at www. martytmusic. bigcartel. com or you can probably pick one up from the man himself at the launch party at the International Bar, Lurgan, on April 6 or at any number of gigs between now and then. Check www.facebook. com/ martytmusic to find out where.
