Model 1891/30 The original model 1891 (Mosins Rifle) was developed by Colonel Sergei Ivanovich Mosin of the Imperial Russian Army. Improvements to the feed system was developed by Belgian arms designer Leon Nagant in 1930. With this addition, it was designated the Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 and remained the main battle rifle of the Soviet Army until it was officially replaced in 1949 by the (SKS). The 1891/30PU is the designation of the sniper version of this rifle. It is essentially the same weapon with a scope installed on a side mount, the bolt handle angled downward to prevent the scope from interfering with the action and other minor improvements.
