Mental Measurements Yearbook. vol. 1 (1938)+

A key factor with this resource is that it lists tests which are newly published or revised since the previous volume. It is not cumulative. A well-known current test being studied may not be in the most recent volume because it has not been recently revised. Also of note is the Score Index, which indexes all scores generated by all tests in the volume. Test titles are sometimes misleading or ambiguous, and test content may be difficult to define with precision. But test scores often represent operational definitions of the variables the test author is trying to measure (introd., pg. xii). You may use Tests in Print to determine the volume of MMY in which a test was last reviewed. The Cross References will show the volume and page in the format ## : ####, using no abbreviation for MMY in the listing.

MMY continues the publication Educational, Psychological & Personality Tests, published in 1935 & 1936.

Test Critiques. Ed. by Daniel J. Keyser & Richard C. Sweetland.

Kansas City, Mo.: Test Corp. of America, 1984-94. 10 vol.
Unlike Mental Measurements Yearbook, Test Critiques typically has just one reviewer evaluate each test in a standard format. It lacks the initial summary data section that appears in MMY. Critiques may run between 4 to over 20 pages. There is a cumulative subject index in volume 10 for all volumes in the set. Test Critiques may appeal more to the non-specialist than other research tools, as its editorial content focuses more broadly on professors, clinicians, students, and all professionals involved in human assessments. Likewise, its cumulative selection of the most frequently used psychological, educational, and business tests used, as determined by survey, helps make this resource an easy one in which to find a sought-after test. Users would be cautioned, however, to check for updates and revisions to the listed tests, as these volumes are getting somewhat dated.

This lists tests described in the issues of professional journals, omitting commercially published standardized tests, task-type activities such as memory word lists used in serial learning research, and achievement tests developed for a single, isolated course of study (Vol. 7, pref., p. vi). Tests are arranged in 24 categories in a standard format, and include a brief note about reliability & validity when available and reported. There is an extensive subject index.

Vol. 1: Achievement Tests & Measurement Devices; Vol. 2: Vocational Tests & Measurement Devices; Vol. 3: Tests for Special Populations; Vol. 4: Cognitive Aptitude and Intelligence Tests. Not every test in the ETS Test Collection is available in the microfiche sets purchased by the Chester Fritz Library. These 4 catalogs list and index all tests in the collection (through catalog publication dates). There is no cross-referencing to the microfiche set, but some of the tests will be found there. Other tests listed will need to be requested from the test publisher or supplier. Main entries are by accession number, with indexing by subject, author, and title. Entries include abstracts describing each test. The ETS Test Collection Cumulative Index to Tests in Microfiche, 1975-1998 (sets A-X) [Call #: Ref. Z 5184. P8 E3a] has a numerical index (pg. 177) that will allow you to quickly check if the accession number you find in one of the above catalogs is in the microfiche collection.

ARTICLE INDEXES PsycInfo + PsycArticles [Library Website/Database List] More 2 million index records exist in the PsycInfo database, covering the journal literature of psychology from the late 1800s to the present. Those interested in articles on the subject of testing should check this index. While actual measurement

instruments themselves are rarely included with research articles, you may be able to locate studies that have utilized the test youre researching, or in some cases evaluations, surveys, etc., about specific studies, themselves (MMPI, WPPSI, etc.). PsycInfo is the indexing component of the database, created and maintained by the American Psychological Assn., and PsycArticles is a full-text database of the journals published by APA. Therefore, if you locate an article originally published in an APA journal, there is a good chance that the full text (for recent years) will be available electronically. CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature) [Library Website/Database List] In addition to the field of nursing, CINAHL (the AHL part) also covers the disciplines of social service in health care, speech-language pathology, and behavioral science, which may be of interest to testing researchers. Furthermore, when you do a search, you may limit your search to only those articles which contain copies of research instruments. This feature is one of the document types included and analyzed in the database. Each record containing the research instrument includes instructions on how to obtain the test, and information on psychometrics, scoring, references, and test variables. ERIC http://eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/Home.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=advanced (Public Interface) [Library Website/Database List. ERIC is available for use with 2 other interfaces, CSA & SilverPlatter, for those users who prefer these displays] Covers the scholarship of education, and allied fields. 3. Test Collections

TESTS PURCHASED BY THE CHESTER FRITZ LIBRARY WERE BOUGHT WITH THE INTENT THAT THEY BE USED FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES AND NOT AS DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS. THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE IN THE LIBRARY ONLY.
Communication Disorders Test Kits <Handout available in reference department> This collection consists of approximately 75 tests all relating to communication disorders. All tests are individually cataloged and listed in the Librarys Online catalog (ODIN). There is no easy way to retrieve a list of all the tests in the catalog, although each test will display as the result of a search like any other collection item. Users are encouraged to ask at the Reference Desk

A subject search for psychological tests in the library catalog will retrieve some tests, but they will be mixed in with books and journal titles about tests as well. Use the following resources to identify specific tests available for research purposes at the Chester Fritz and other UND Libraries.
