Dear guests
It is a great pleasure to be able to write to you as new Director of the hotel. I have had a special fascination for the InteralpenHotel Tyrol, since my first visit many years ago. Our extraordinary and exclusive location in the Tirolean Alps, the extensive Spa and wellbeing facilities, the superb, award-winning cuisine and the fantastic team have truly inspired me. We will work together to preserve all that is outstanding about the hotel, but remain open to innovation, to continuously improve our services and offer you the most memorable holiday possible. In this edition of the Interalpen Magazine we present some new and exclusive spaces where you can relax and be comfortable: the ground floor of the Karwendel wing is about to be extensively renovated and will be home to Salon Bellevue, Caf Wien and our Smoking Lounge. Renovations will take place during the winter closed period and the new rooms will be ready for the most special time of year: Christmas and New Year at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol. I am really looking forward to the first snow of the season in the Tirolean Alps and hope to be able to welcome you personally before too long.

We offer a wide selection of fine whiskies and rums and an attractive menu for cigar lovers with a focus on the best exports from Cuba (Cohiba, Montecristo, Partagas) and the Dominican Republic (Davidoff). Our cigar expert will be pleased to advise on your selection and we also offer private humidors for especially dedicated cigar smokers. To complement the comfortable leather furniture, the Smoking Lounge offers a fireplace, a large flat screen TV and a table at which you can sit and chat, read or smoke your cigar in peace. Refurbishment of the Karwendel Wing

New rooms for style-conscious connoisseurs

The Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol presents three new attractions for guests: Caf Wien, the Smoking Lounge and Salon Bellevue.
A place with a relaxed but stylish atmosphere where guests can enjoy each others company and savour life in general this concept defines the Karwendel Wings new venues. Theres a space to suit every taste says acclaimed architect Philip Wohlfarth of his designs. The entire ground floor of the Karwendel Wing will have a new layout where guests will be able to relax in Caf Wien, Salon Bellevue or the Smoking Lounge. Elegantly decorated, with stylish furniture and exquisite service, the new spaces provide perfect surroundings to relax over a drink and enjoy some civilised conversation. The centrepiece of the new space is Caf Wien, where an authentic Viennese coffee house has been recreated with loving attention to detail: iconic Thonet chairs with bentwood backs are placed at small round tables with marble tops. Daily newspapers are on standby and courteous waiters serve your coffee on silver trays. Of course, Caf Wien at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol not only reflects the style of classic coffee houses such as Caf Central or Hawelka in Vienna, but the coffee menu leaves no wish unfulfilled. You can expect every conceivable coffee speciality

Activities

Winter season at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol

Fun in the snow!

Winters first snowfall is a much anticipated event. Because this glittering white blanket not only makes the Tirol picturebook perfect, but gives our guests so many different ways to enjoy some sports and activity.

When the white magic coats treetops and mountain slopes, its time to head outside into the pristine landscape. The mountains around the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol are a dream for skiers. There is a 260 km network of signposted cross-country skiing trails on Seefelds high plateau. You can join the trail right at the hotels front door, glide through sparkling, winterwhite landscapes and enjoy magnificent views. Downhill skiers can also look forward to a great choice of pistes. Seefeld is home to Gschwandtkopf and Rosshtte ski regions and there are other attractive skiing centres in close proximity. Those who prefer their winter sports fun on runners can take to the pistes on a toboggan. An excursion to the toboggan run at Gaistal or Strassberghaus makes an unforgettable day out for both adults and children. If you prefer a quieter life, the hotel has its own ice rink where you can skate or try your hand at curling. Ski equipment, toboggans, skates and curling stones are available from the hotels hire shop. Keen hikers dont let winter discourage them from enjoying the Tirols mountain world. Equipped with snowshoes, our experienced mountain

guide takes groups along snow-covered trails to picturesque corners and magnificent viewing points. Whether snuggled up by a roaring fire or enjoying a night time ramble by torchlight, winter at the Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol is a perfect season for great romantics. For a truly fairytale experience, we recommend a carriage ride, where gentle-natured Haflinger horses lead you through the peaceful winter idyll. You can snuggle up in a blanket and savour the pristine natural scenery and clear mountain air. For more action and a taste of wilderness adventure, why not take a trip with a sled and pack of huskies. You will explore the Tirolean Alps at nearly 20 kph, and really connect with the natural world. There are plenty of opportunities for day excursions in winter too. Seefeld is a popular destination, with its traditional weekend Christmas market of festive wooden stalls offering Glhwein and roast chestnuts. Innsbruck is also worth a visit, with no less than five different Christmas markets to explore in the lovely medieval old town quarter. From there its just a short hop to Wattens and Swarovski Crystal Worlds. Discover this treasurehouse of gems which sparkle and glitter to rival the snow crystals in the Tirolean Alps.

Gastronomy

An Austrian speciality to try at home

A recipe for 6 people

Plum dumplings with chestnut crme

Our head chef Christoph Zangerl and our sommelier Andreas Pfingstl present a magnificent Tirolean dessert and an equally delicious liqueur.
Tiroler Grstl (meat and potato hash), Schlutzkrapfen (cream cheese ravioli), Speck (air-dried ham) and Kndel (dumplings) in endless variety are just some of the regions most famous specialities, which promise real pleasures of the palate. But when our head chef Christoph Zangerl, who has been awarded 3 Gault Millau toques, turns his attention to traditional Tirolean cuisine, you can be sure of particularly refined creations and unique taste sensations. I am a great lover of Tirolean cooking, so regional dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients always feature on our menus says Zangerl. He can be sure that produce from the Tirol will provide the best in freshness, quality and flavour and ultimately, top quality ingredients are at the heart of his award-winning culinary art. One of my favourite traditional dishes is plum dumplings. And when served with chestnut crme and walnut croquant ice cream they taste just fantastic.

Potato dough for dumplings 250 g cooked floury potatoes, 100 g strong plain flour, 1 egg yolk, salt. Boil the potatoes in their skins, leave to cool, peel and pass through a fine sieve. Combine all ingredients and chill in the fridge. Cut open 6 plums, remove the stone and fill each with a sugar cube. Cut the dough into 6, roll out into circles and encase the plums. Chestnut crme 100 g chestnut pure, 2 cl rum, icing sugar. Combine the ingredients. Plums 9 plums, halved and stoned, 100 ml port, 100 ml red wine, seeds from a vanilla pod, 50 ml elderflower syrup, 1 clove, 2 cm cinnamon stick, 1 star anise. Simmer the spices in the port and wine, allow to reduce slightly, and

thicken with a little cornflour. Add the plums and leave to cool. Walnut croquant ice cream 100 ml milk, 100 ml cream, 3 egg yolks, 40 g sugar Heat the milk and cream. Whisk the eggs yolks and sugar, add to the almost boiling milk mixture and whisk over a gentle heat until the custard is slightly thickened. You can test if it is done by dipping a wooden spoon into the mixture then blowing on the back of the spoon. If wavy lines appear, the custard is perfect. Walnut croquant 10 g butter, 10 g honey, 30 g cane sugar, 15 g cream, vanilla sugar, 200 g walnuts Bring the ingredients to the boil; add the walnuts and leave to cool. Freeze the ice cream base then add the caramelised walnuts.

Our sommelier Andreas Pfingstl recommends a delicious walnut liqueur to serve with the plum dumplings: M4 walnut liqueur from Mairs

Alm sauna and salt sauna modernised.

Pure relaxation
Pampered from head to toe: A carefully prepared bath revitalises and instils new energy; you can choose from the cold relief bath, whey bath or Tirolean rock oil bath. A stimulating massage of the reflexology points on your feet and ankles will restore your inner balance.

We predict a warm winter

Our sauna village is an oasis of tranquillity and warmth. Two particularly relaxing features are the Alm sauna and the Salt sauna.
Our Alm and Salt saunas have been completely renovated and now meet the highest standards of design and technology. The Interalpen-Hotel Tyrols sauna masters are particularly proud of the salt sauna: illuminated salt bricks on the walls store up energy over several hours and release infrared heat. Time spent in this sauna promotes relaxation, improves your well being and strengthens your immune system. The Alm sauna is a Finnish sauna in classical sense: maintained at temperatures of 95 100 C it is ideal for pouring ceremonies. In addition to a state of the art ventilation system, two windows provide fresh mountain air and an excellent oxygen supply. The sauna village has several other places where you can enjoy some pleasant heat. The highlights include a Tirolean bake house, where the aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air as you enjoy the 60 C heat. The moderate temperatures of the Bio sauna are ideal for your first experience of a sauna, to allow your body to acclimatise to the beneficial heat. The two steam baths (herbal steam bath and a precious stone grotto) maintain a more moderate temperature than the saunas and the humid air soothes your airways. If you prefer, one of our sauna masters will instruct you in the secrets of the most beneficial sauna session, during which he will enhance your sauna experience by pouring fragrant infusions onto the coals and circulating the air. During your sauna, pamper your skin with honey, olive oil, salt, yoghurt or other products. After a sauna or steam bath it is a special pleasure
