Objectives
On completion of the training, the trainees will have sufficient knowledge; understanding and skills enabling them undertake designated security duties, onboard ship including the ability to: Maintain the conditions set out in a ship security plan; Recognise security risk and threats; Undertake regular security inspections; and Properly use security equipment and systems;
Certification
On successful completion of the course candidates will be issued the MCA approved STCW78-95 , as amended, Regulation VI/6 paragraph 4 and STCW Code Section A-VI/6 paragraph 6 to 8 Proficiency in Dedicated Security Duties certificate.
Course Content
An introduction into the ISPS code Roles and responsibilities of flag states, shipping companies and ships personnel for responding to security threats
Security levels as defined by the ISPS code o The procedures at each security levels covering; o Access to the ship o Restricted areas on the ship o Handling of cargo o Delivery of ships stores o Handling of unaccompanied baggage o Monitoring the security of the ship Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices The conduct of physical searches and non intrusive inspections Measures that may be taken to prevent unauthorized boarding of the vessel in port or on passage Actions that may be taken by pirates/armed robbers attempting to board the vessel on passage Techniques used to circumvent security measures Characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons likely to pose a threat to security Handling of security related information Appreciation of the security implications associated with design and layout of the ship The importance of undertaking security drills and emergency procedures The importance of effective communications during emergency situations How to respond to security threats or breaches of security How to respond to emergency situations The use of a citadel
