Drinking Water Projects Inaugurated

A drinking water project was inaugurated at Rukmini Lath Bal Niketan on 8th May08. Being the Chief Guest of the day Sri P.K.Pattnaik, District Magistrate & Collector, inaugurated the project. In this connection a meeting was organized, which was chaired by Sri S.P.Meher, Manager, Public Relations, BISWA. Dr.P.K.Nayak,C.D.M.O joined as the Guest of Honour. Sri Joy George, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Sambalpur Branch, Dr. Diptibala Patnaik and Sri Bhajaram Mahapatra were also on the dais. It was a Red Cross project with earmarked financial assistance from BISWA.
Earlier a drinking water project with motorized tube well was inaugurated at M.E.School, Dantri on 30 th April08. It is also a Red Cross project with earmarked financial assistance from BISWA. A Family Restored by BISWA FCC

Haripriya is a 33 years old mother with a son of 12 years and a daughter of 6 years old in her 14 years of married life. Both husband and wife were not in good terms and she was fed up with her husbands behaviour. As a result of it, she left her husbands house on last May07 and took shelter at her maternal house with her two children. To save their married life both were given counselling during the separation by BISWA Family Counselling Centre (FCC) Counsellor. Haripriya belongs to a financially strong family and her husband Kishor Pradhans status was a little below them. But the counselling during separation was fruitful for them. They could know each others needs as well as the parental need for their children. Then finally Haripriya agreed to go back to Kishor. Husband Kishor also accepted her happily. Ultimately the family was restored by some needful counselling from BISWA FCC with a happy ending.

Awareness on environment has become a concern for

all concerned and unconcerned also. The temperature of our environment is increasing gradually and the phenomenon is named as Global Warming. It has resulted in breaking of glaciers and melting of ice bergs. As a result of it the sea level is rising and low leveled sea shores are being submerged. Obviously it is going to inundate some parts of our lands along with the civilization being groomed on it. The situation is alarming and warrants attention of all concerns. We understand very well that such a situation did not evolve all of a sudden but it is a result of gradual and regular abusing of our environment. This abuse could be identified in shape of removing green cover with mercilessly felling of trees and haplessly pouring pollutants into our atmosphere in the name of industrialization. It is needless to mention about depletion of ozone layers as the puncturing a hole on it has become a historical phenomenon. As the situation is rapidly going out of hand, so it warrants immediate and fruitful intervention. To effectuate such an intervention it is most necessary to raise the level of awareness in this connection. We have to take care the attitude of devil may care with sincere counseling of concerned people. This could be materialized by people very much attached to such a problematic ground. Until and unless such troubleshooting elements are adored and appreciated, they could not be encouraged to increase their activities, which is a need of the hour. This is awareness building and this should be awarded.

Ms. Laetitia Counye, Private Equity Manager and Mr. Greeth from INCOFIN, Belgium visited BISWA on 26th April 2008. INCOFIN is a leading Cooperative Company with 4 microfinance funds operating in 18 countries and having collaboration with 49 Micro Finance Institutions. During discussion with officials of BISWA they disclose that INCOFIN has a mission to support MFIs with providing financial services tailored to the needs of micro entrepreneurs, thereby enabling them to improve living conditions and to break the vicious circle of poverty. Both the delegates from INCOFIN interacted with Mr. K. C. Malick, Chairman, BISWA and other senior members of organisation on the possibilities of collaboration in different areas of social and MFI investments. After meeting the Chairman at his office, they were taken to the conference hall of BISWA Training Institute, where at they were greeted by an assembly of office staff. Both of them addressed to the assembly after an introduction session. They also participated in the celebration of birth day of the Chairman,

(Jalachhatra) across the state to provide drinking water to the road commuters during summer season. The first water kiosk was inaugurated by Sri Joy George, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Sambalpur Branch, at Budharaja, Sambalpur on 28th April08. Sri Shiv Prasad Meher, Manager-Public Relations and Sri Bhawani Shankar Mishra, Manager-Health, BISWA were present there. The other 9 such kiosks of Sambalpur town are operating at Tali Chowk of Ainthapali, Dhuchurapada chowk, Majhipali Chowk, near N.S.C.B. College, near DRDA, on Ring road, at Durgapali, Mandalia and at Thakurpada. Similarly, another water kiosk was inaugurated by Sri Rabi Narayan Nanda, Ex-Minister, Govt.of Orissa at Jeypur. BISWA has opened ten such water kiosk in Jeypur,Koraput, Boriguma, Kundura and Kotpad

Guests from IFMR Trust Visited

Ms. Kshama Fernandes, Vice President, Securitisation of IFMR Trust visited BISWA on 9th May08 alongwith Mr. Anand Sahasranaman, Senior Analyst and Mr.Joby C.O., Team Leader, Structured Finance. In this connection a meeting of second line management staff members was organised at BISWA Training Institute. There they interacted with the members. Then they analysed the SHG management features of BISWA. There after they visited Bargarh to know how BISWA does work in automated and distant monitoring enrichment. In this meeting Mr. Pitabasa Sethi, Secretary, Mr. Duryodhan Malick, Deputy General Manager, Mr. Prasant Sahu, Ass. General Manager, Mr. Shiv Prasad Meher-Manager, Public Relations were on the dais.

On 11th May 2008, on the occasion of International Mothers Day, Koraput Branch Office of BISWA, organised a meeting of members of women self help groups at Kuntarkhal Village in Jeypore Block of Koraput district. During the celebration, issues of women in general and CMR, MMR and IMR in particular were largely discussed. Addressing to the gathering of around 50 WSHG members, the issue of ignorance of reproductive health practices, lack of life skill and illiteracy were much stressed by BISWA staff members. The gathered WSHG members discussed on economic empowerment by group initiatives. Government led schemes for women empowerment and social security were explained by ANMs and AWWs. Those who addressed the gathering on present gender inequality and other women issues were Smt. Shantilata Pattnaik-ANM, Smt. Jhunu Padhi- Anganwadi worker, Smt. Champa NayakAsha Worker. They assured to extend support to all the pregnant mothers as per the available guidelines of Janani Surkshya Yojana, a Government scheme. They motivated the gathering to co-operate them as

A meeting of BISWA Self Help Federation, Niali-1 was held on 5 th May08. The meeting was chaired by Ms Soudamini Mallick, President of the Federation. Sri Debendra Pradhan, Area Coordinator and Sri Sanatan Patra, Organiser, BISWA joined the meeting and discussed about life, health and asset insurance. Ms Meghamala Nayak & Ms Bidulata Roy were covered in health insurance. They were given the due after settling their claim.
